Have to say I agree with Bazza here - I know his is an extreme opinion which puts a lot of people off but frankly for whatever reason I don't think Ramirez has done enough. Most of the people I talk to (outside of this forum) agree as well. I read someone say the other day that Le Tiss wouldn't get in our team now because of his lack of workrate but that's rubbish - he'd walk into it because of what he could do. Workrate or not there aren't many teams that can afford to keep genius out. I'm not going to say that I expected Ramirez to be *that* good but I did expect more. Course this is only an opinion but crucially it seems to be one that MP happens to share which I guess is the only thing that counts. Let's face it even in the cup games this season Ramirez hasn't been that good. You may be in the wrong place if you don't feel an opinion is allowed to be questioned.

I expect Stoke to go revert to type a bit in this game and try and go long a bit more than they would usually. Playing midweek means preparation won't have been the best and Hughes knows it'll be tough to counter a high pressing game by trying to match it so I think he'll try to use a big out ball when he can and take the pressure off that way. His teams are generally hard to beat anyway and Stoke have been pretty miserly in conceding at home recently so can't see this being a good game for goals - set pieces will be both sides best bet. Hopefully we start the game with the same lineup as against Fulham and the same gameplan - none of the players deserve to be dropped and if Davis and Osvaldo are fit again then the bench looks strong. A similar performance and we'd be very unlucky to lose this one. Just hope we don't try to vary things around and try something new in a bid to outfox the opponents - we're good enough now to go up there and play our own game and let them worry about us. 0-1 Saints.

Sadly, yes. Like all of us I had high hopes for him and really wanted him to do well for us but for whatever reason it hasn't worked out. Shame for both him and us but if you take away the pricetag and the hype then his performances haven't really been good enough and the harsh reality is that we have players on the fringes that will have more of an impact than he will. In fact when you look at it I'm surprised more people aren't pushing for JWP instead - the lad has delivered and is only getting better. Obviously fits our system better than GR does but that's not his fault. I know I said about ignoring the pricetag (but you can't really) and when it comes down to it I expected GR to have the same impact as Coutinho - clearly that hasn't happened. If we could get somewhere near our money back then from what I've seen taking a gamble on another player to replace him is a better prospect than taking a gamble on GR coming good. All IMO of course.

I wouldn't play GR today (well, I wouldn't start him anyway). There are other players who deserve a chance more than he does - JWP being the outstanding candidate and going on form and performances he's more likely to add something to the team. To be honest when it comes to GR it really isn't about lack of workrate that irritates me, good players can get away with that if they produce the goods when they get the ball, it's more that GR doesn't show anywhere near enough creativity or end product - he certainly hasn't done enough to justify changing the team to accommodate him.

Personally think Gaston has been hugely disappointing for us. I know everyone says he clearly is talented etc etc but you can only judge on what you see and for me he hasn't translated any of that talent to performances for us. You could argue that to get the best out of him he needs to play that number 10 role but that's a bit of a kick in the teeth for whoever gets dropped as so far they have done the business. If we can get a decent amount back for him then I don't think it's too much of a loss, and if he does go then good luck to the lad.

Didn't seem to be any passion or willingness to win the ball today. For all the plaudits we get for our pressing game it dosesn't really seem to be there and hasn't for a while now. In fact the tag seems to be working against us as other teams look as if they are expecting a tough game (which we don't give them). Passing was also sloppy from virtually everyone. I guess we could all argue about formations and player selections as much as we want but for me those considerations are secondary if we don't have a team that is committed and it didn't look like that today. Someone needs to give the players a right b0ll0cking after that performance and hopefully they'll get some of that desire back and stop believing the hype. i would exclude Boruc, Lovren and Fonte though who all did their job.

Weller's back catalogue is a bit of a mixed bag isn't it? I love The Jam and pretty much everything they've done but Style Council were awful and I don't really care for much of his solo stuff either (Wild Wood aside).

Don't see there being too many changes for this one. Would be hard to drop JWP right now and if Clyne comes in for Chambers then that could give him a bit more freedom as well. Also don't think Ramirez has done enough yet to warrant a start especially away from home. Playing JWP instead will give us that little bit more in terms of winning the midfield. Think Rodriguez will be dropped purely on the basis that he's had a few chances the last couple of league games and not taken them (you could say the same for Lambert though). Think the team will be Boruc Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw Wanyama Schneiderlin JWP Lambert Lallana Osvaldo Think it'll be fairly tight first half and expect us to cross the ball in early to make the most of both Osvaldo and Lambert. Second half bit more open and Ramirez and Rodriguez ain't bad options off the bench.

Have to say that's completely the opposite of my interpretation which is "plays off the shoulder....of the last defender". So basically he leads the line and is the focal point for early crosses etc.

As a slight aside I've just noticed in the catch up area of the site that you get highlights and some full match replays. There only seems highlights available for EPL games but Serie A does seem have full match replays. Someone with more time on their hands than me may want to check out some Roma games to get an idea about Osvaldo? I'll probably have a look tonight in any case.

Well impressed with that. Only played it through my PC but got a big wide screen monitor and played it full screen with no problems. Pretty much HD quality most of the time and didn't stop or freeze once.

This is probably part of the negotiation game and nothing more. What's encouraging is that the agent has chosen to name Cardiff as our main rivals - usually it's Arsenal, Liverpool etc. Cardiff have already baulked at the asking price so really can't see them offering more in wages and shows the player is willing to move to a club that isn't one of the big four. To be fair we're playing the same game with the player what with the links to the Belgian lad. I still expect Wanyama to sign anyway.....

NOS4R2 by Joe Hill. I'm just over half way through and it's brilliant so far. Probably unfair to draw a comparison between Stephen King and his son but this really is right up there with the best of early King novels. It's not a homage or pastiche but it has the same voice. It's a big old novel too at about 700 pages but so far it's not dragged at all. If you like Stephen King and haven't tried any Joe Hill stuff before then give it a go - you really won't be disappointed.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Carlisle fans. Thought they were great at the JPT. Also met a few decent Wigan fans this season as well.

All seems a load of rubbish but for the record I'm one of those new affluent types. I'd have thought class would be more economically based but there was only a couple of questions on that. Also found it odd that one of the factors was who you were friends with and what their occupation was but not what your occupation was.

I know this thread is all about knocking the skates but today I'll applaud them - they got a draw and points have been hard to come by so well done. Despite dropping to the bottom of the division they are still far higher than they'll be for a good while so I hope they enjoy this point. WTFILN?

Playing devils advocate does the number of people who die make a difference? If so what's the cutoff point - what number constitutes a period of silence and what doesn't? Personally a single death is as important as a multiple one but the only people it really concerns are friends and family. The rest of us can respect the loss of others but I think for most people that's implicit anyway - do we need to publically display that grief/respect? I'm not defending people who disrupt a period of silence but I do think their are genuine questions concerning death and how we honour it - let's face it people die every day and it's all tragic.

Would guess it was at the request of Brazil which is fair enough I suppose. I wouldn't disrupt a minute silence but do think that it's getting out of hand - there's a fine line between showing respect and mawkishly sharing grief for people we don't know. To be honest I don't really know the answer but things like the Villa "no respect" chant don't help.
