I wouldn't worry mate - it's a tiresome wind up brought to you by the same people who think posting "has Skacel signed yet" is funny. yawn........
-
As a complete aside I bloody hate it when people put words in my mouth - if you have an opinion then voice it but don't be so arrogant to assume you know what other people are thinking. That's you SamKimish - it's patronising. Secondly Shane Long may not be all that anyway. There have been plenty of flash in the pan strikers with one decent season behind them - remember Todorov or Aliadiare? Long may turn out to be great or not, same as Maynard and no one knows. FWIW from what I've seen I'd prefer Maynard but it's probably all rubbish anyway. My guess is that we'll sign Waghorn and he'll turn out to be this season's Shane Long.

Of course most clubs have supporters in places you wouldn't think but as an aside one of the things I've enjoyed about being in the championship and div 1 is meeting fans from other teams that are down to earth and sensible. There's good banter but no glory hunters and to be honest I've enjoyed the office football chats with Brizzle Rovers fans or other teams far more than the loud mouthed prem supporters. At least lower league fans know their stuff. I met up with a typical Liverpool supporter from Reading tonight and all he could bang on about was how Joe Cole didn't have a good first touch - I'd love to be back in the prem but I'm not looking forward to football talk with deluded halfwits again.

I saw that as well and Waghorn does look a fairly decent player. Only problem is we've got a number of fairly decent strikers already - if we do bring another forward in then they really should be clearly better than what we've got because we're certainly not in the market for just cover. To be fair I haven't seen enough to make too much of a judgement on Waghorn - he may be a blinding signing. Oh and I saw the rumour on Football Rumours so it's probably rubbish anyway.

Osborne's Plan A is correct - now cut tax
revolution saint replied to trousers's topic in The Lounge
It's probably quite cynical but I think the central tenent of the major parties is to get elected - everything else is secondary. Of course there is a wealth of history on both sides but it's used as a tool to galvanise the already converted (slogans if you like) and IMO isn't translated into policy. There are exceptions though - the minimum wage for example. Sometimes I feel as if an election is a choice between one set of bank managers and another (probably a bad comparison given bankers reputations these days but you get the idea). Ideologically there doesn't seem that much difference but maybe that's a good thing, who knows? -

Me neither, and you can add in the fact that ideologically there is very little difference between the popular parties anyway - certainly not enough to justify some of the tub thumping that goes on. When push comes to shove most of the politicians make the same decisions. -

It's a subjective matter of opinion - there is no best or worst. IMO though, no, and very definitely not in the case of Hallelujah. -
QPR make Saints an offer for Puncheon (Player Exchange)
revolution saint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Not really - I was going for clever comparison between the obscure logic of popular 70s/80s gameshow "3-2-1" and the guessing game we all play on these threads.....it's not as funny if you have to explain it though.... -
If you could go back to your 18th Birthday

Do away with the grandparents before they have a chance to fritter it away on luxuries like care homes. I don't care if they did fight a war for us - they're still selfish b*stards. -

revolution saint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Hmmm, interesting. What do get if you take the first five letters of QPR's opponents? Crawl. Who said they would "Crawl over broken glass for Southampton"? None other than midfield maestro, ginger wizard and saints legend Alan Ball. What sport plays with a ball and even contains the name in it's title? Football. Who plays football - Southampton, that's who. It's bloody obvious innit? Clearly this is a sign that Gorkss will sign for us - it's a shame QPR feel the need to so blatantly advertise it. I'd rather our business was done quietly and behind the scenes thankyouverymuch Mr Warnock. -

To be honest I've given up believing any economic forecast from anyone - it's just guesswork, mostly representing some interest or another, and mostly wrong. All I know is that I have less disposable income than I used to have, things cost more, my pension is worse off and jobs are more scarce. I'll start spending more when I have more money and I guess that's what most people will do. I'd like to add that Dune can feel free to use this post as an exit point to froth at the mouth about those damn Marxists, or the book he read about Rhodesia once, or indeed post some funny youtube irrelevancies - in these troubling economic hard times he's the only thing that makes me laugh. -
Putin says U.S. is a "parasite" on global economy

Fantastic! A Left Vs Right pointless argument. I've missed these so much - they hardly ever happen. -
I think he'd be perfect for Arsenal and I'd love to see him go there. I reckon he'll probably end up at ManUre though.

Agreed, pre-season games are so far removed from competitive games that it's hard to make any kind of judgement.
-
It could also mean we're waiting on other clubs to get replacements in for the players we're signing.

The majority of the money the US owes is to US based companies so defaulting on payments only harms themselves. I agree though - sooner or later they'll have to pay.

Never thought I'd agree with you but I ignore wedding lists. In many cases they're not necessary. My sister got married after living with her future husband for a few years, they decided to get married but there was nothing domestic they really needed so we were asked to chip in for their honeymoon instead. My Dad paid for the wedding and they got a free holiday. I can understand the tradition but in this case we were talking about two top rate tax payers; a solicitor and a senior teacher. Obviously I was happy for them but the decision to get married was a financial bonus for them.

Absolutely and to be honest I'd much rather go for a player like Vossen than Jerome, Maynard or Sharp. The overseas market can be much cheaper and have more talent so it makes sense to exploit it. As you say, Vossen is exactly the type of player we could be looking at - would be nice to think there's something in it.
-
Jelle Vossen was mentioned on here earlier in the week as some kind of training ground rumour but I haven't seen it reported anywhere else. I guess the fact that we've signed de Ridder shows that we've been scouting the Belgian and Dutch leagues so it's not too far fetched. He would be a bit of a coup though and has been linked with Bolton and Fiorentina so probably a bit of a long shot. There's plenty up on YouTube that shows how good a player he is.

Insurance companies are blood sucking scum. Even the whole excess idea is a joke - I had my CD player nicked years ago when CD players were still cool and it wasn't worth claiming. Worst thing though are those sods proclaiming to be courtesy cars after you've had an accident when in fact they are hire cars that claim the money off the other insurance company. If you read the small print that's only applicable if the claim is settled within 12 months, otherwise you are liable for the cost. Gits tried to shaft me for seven grand, luckily I could prove I was mis-informed.

How many people have moved ST seats this season?
revolution saint replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
To be fair he did provide some pure comedy moments with his completely absurd pronouncements, who can forget, "That Butterfield, good kid, got a great future......" -
Cheers - it did seem a strange turn of events.
