Southampton fans are acutely aware of the lack of productivity from players, not just now but for several years.

That’s interesting considering it’s after 8 games and we still have a higher xG than most (if not all) teams. Gotta hope Stewart comes in quickly and starts burying those chances. Not great reading for Baz though.

I do that just so everyone knows that I'm not on it and find the whole twitter (or whatever they call it these days) thing rubbish.
-
That's right - you're the one who tipped me off about the odds on Charlie. Bastard.

Fuck me, didn't realise Yoda was a fan too! Force is with you mate.

Trousers has been living groundhog day for what seems like forever so he's had far longer to post.

I blame Russell Martin

Reading some of the stuff here (not just you), you could almost be forgiven for thinking that the atmosphere in St Mary's is a toxic, hate filled cauldron and Martin needs a pitchfork to get the players out on the pitch. In my experience, that's simply not the case. If anything, we've been fairly apathetic to what's been pretty poor performances but, generally speaking, I think the crowd has been mostly positive. First two games against Norwich and QPR I thought the atmosphere was really good. Even against Ipswich in the second half there were attempts to get some chants going so I don't think it's that bad. I think we've all been to games where the atmosphere is toxic and where players have been almost universally booed from all four corners. We're not there yet and the manager certainly hasn't been subjected to any of that. Sure, there's been some grumblings and moans but this isn't Saints fans being uniquely negative - it's the kind of thing that happens everywhere. You'd think if we applied the logic of fans disgruntlement affecting team performance then we should have cruised to an easy win after taking the lead against 'Boro. It wasn't anything to do with fans when we went up to Sunderland either. Frankly, this whole fans thing is a deflection tactic from Russell Martin. If we carry on in the same vein then he may have a point but it'll have been of his own making rather than anything else.

I thought you liked Baz?

Particularly when I have a tenner each way on him being top scorer in the championship at 100/1.

This is one of the reasons that I'm not calling for Martin to go - just don't trust SR to get a decent replacement in (and we're getting less attractive every game). Only hopes I've got are that we manage to get a win from somewhere that instils a bit of confidence in the players and we can go from there. It's still a decent squad for the Championship and at some point you'd hope that will tell. The other hope is that Ross Stewart comes in and starts banging goals in - that will make a huge difference. We're not creating that much but should still be scoring more and, again, a bit of confidence could make a world of difference.

Yeah, I could have been mistaken on the episode. Probably a trailer I’d seen. Stand corrected, he’s an arrogant cunt in more than one episode. Thanks badger!
-
Have you been drinking? I find it weird that you're actually trying to say that anyone who doesn't tolerate school boy errors is a tool. Yay! Embrace the failure! Bring it on, the more mistakes the better - anyone who doesn't revel in the worst goal difference in the division is an entitled tool.

Ha ha, you had respect for me? I'm honoured. I find Sorkin a bit hit and miss - loved "A few good men" even if it is over the top. I only ever watched the first episode of West Wing and if I recall Martin Sheen only appears right at the end and moans at everyone for not standing up when the president enters the room. I thought, arrogant cunt and never watched any further.
-
You seem to be getting quite angry, maybe a cup of decaffeinated tea is in order?
-
Obviously everyone is entitled to an opinion but you're wrong. It's a total dirge. And West Wing was shit too.
-
Quite telling that you're not defending the results or performances but quite willing to criticise anyone that does. So come on, what's been so great? What's the excuses? And how long would you give Martin? As for entitled. Yep, put me in that camp alongside Martin, Wilcox and Sports Republic. They're the ones who have been talking about and expecting automatic promotion. At the moment we're light years away from that.
-
Absolutely, most football fans are thick and stupid, and their opinions are even more stupid. Everyone except us though! Where we see a football visionary, a philosophy and an identity, they just see petty results. We're building something more than results here but can they see it? Can they fuck. I'd give him a decade if it was up to me cos this is going to take time and faith. It's not easy building something like this (if it was everyone would be doing it!) and people need to understand that there's much more than "results". Tell you what, if this all goes wrong (how could it?) then it's those stupid fans. It's all on them.

I quite like Bertrand Russell, who might have explained our current predicament in Russell's Paradox.
-
TBF that actually was quite funny so I like it more. Whilst I'm on a roll and musically thinking, anything either Talking Heads or Roxy Music have ever done.

The song Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley (or any of the covers). Can't fucking stand it.

I'm going to be a little controversial here. I thought first half we were largely OK. It looked like RM had set us up defensively and not to concede which given the last 4 games was sensible, we ditched the inverted fullbacks, cut out needless passing around the back, and it looked like working until Holgate fucked up. I don't know what it is but at times some of our players seem to think they've a god given right to stroll around without being challenged. Charles did it against Ipswich and was guilty again at least a couple of times today. Second half that shape completely vanished when we brought on Manning who's like James Bond; he's a left back with license to roam. Any kind of discipline vanished. We still didn't create much of note, and looked much more likely to concede. Really not looking forward to Leeds.

According to reports Tony Mowbray was being considered before we appointed Martin. Can't see him moving to us but I'd take him all day long if it was possible.
-
Honestly don't know where we go from here. I don't think RM is capable of turning us into play off contenders, and I don't trust SR with another managerial appointment. You have to hand it to Sports Republic on their staggering incompetence.
