  1. Haven't seen anywhere enough of him to form much of an opinion either way. His lack of stamina is a problem and he was consistently subbed around the 60 min mark in inferior leagues which doesn't bode well and means that consistent pressing isn't going to work. I think he could be a decent option in games where we're in control and need to break down defences and his height should give us loads of options. I'd be looking to use him as an impact sub when we're chasing a game and against a team content to sit back. Definitely not writing him off but we'll need to play a different type of game if he ever becomes a consistent starter.
  2. Ok, so as far as I can recall the bbc covered lockdowns quite a bit and talked about the pros and cons. I think most people were aware of them and pretty sure we even had a thread on here talking about them. Not sure what else you wanted the BBC to do? Or is it more the that they didn’t overtly criticise them? Surely it’s biased rather than proper journalism that you want?
  3. Genuine question but did you get your "proper" journalism over lockdown from anywhere within the MSM? BBC seems to be a target for you because of it's funding model and it's fair enough to question that but as far as I recall there wasn't a whole lot of variation in reporting during the pandemic so it wouldn't seem to be particularly relevant to single the BBC out in that context.
  4. I thought the 30's Germany comparison was a bit OTT and unhelpful but don't have any problem with Lineker saying it. As far as I'm concerned he can say whatever he likes outside of the BBC. Surprised about Shearer - always thought he'd be a bit of a Tory. I reckon they'll get Danny Mills in - he looks like he would drink the blood of migrants.
  5. I apologise for the distress although I did warn you. I have to turn off the radio when it comes on. It’s a fucking middle class kid pretending to be a poor black kid with a terrible fake accent spouting pretentious gritty poetry that doesn’t even rhyme. Obviously critics loved it and now it’s gone collecting pronouns it’s even worse. Yep, other Kates are far far better
  6. Kae Tempest formerly known as Kate Tempest. Can't stand her and her awful affected accent. They sound like a demented dalek spouting cliche ridden bollocks poetry to crap music.
  7. I'd expect just that kind of comment from a Nazi.
  8. Fair enough, I disagree but you're entitled to your opinion.
  9. He got as close as he could to comparing them to Nazis and he did that deliberately. Even if you're just drawing a comparison to how the Nazis started off, it's still a comparison to Nazis. It's a comment designed to draw praise from people who already agree with you rather than an attempt to change minds or enlighten them. Problem is it's hard to tackle these three word slogans. I honestly don't know what the answer is but comments like that don't help.
  10. That's a fairly epic response so I won't reply to all of it. It's obviously a matter of opinion as to how important immigration is but, as I said, I wouldn't underestimate it amongst certain demographics. Polls are fair enough but often wrong - many people don't want to be accused of being racist and will deliberately downplay it when asked, or it might be that, for various reasons, large chunks of people aren't being polled. As for this government being like 30's Germany? I really don't like them much but effectively it's comparing them to Nazis - Russia does that to Ukraine and everyone laughs at how gullible people must be to fall for that guff. I feel the same way in this context too.
  11. I'll answer if I may as LD had quoted me and I don't actually think you and I really disagree. My point was simply that the tough stance, the rhetoric and the three word slogans do resonate with large parts of the population. The policies themselves may well be rubbish but from a Tory point of view that's almost irrelevant if people believe and like what they're saying. Tajjuk had a really good post yesterday and I didn't disagree with it much at all except when it came to the idea that for most people immigration isn't that much of a big deal. I think it is. The average person doesn't watch the news and doesn't see the front bench rip the government apart, doesn't know the difference between asylum seekers and migration but they have the perception that immigration is out of control and something needs to be done. Slogans like "Stop the boats" both reinforce the perception and also suggest they're doing something about it. When you get Gary Lineker likening the situation to 30's Germany, it's not useful and does nothing to persuade people to his point of view. Instead it hardens positions and people start to believe the liberal elite argument. As for the effective immigration policy and process - how does free movement of people within the EU fit in with that if you were a remainer? You can absolutely make a case for it being a positive thing but very difficult to say we're in control of immigration if that's what we would want. Obviously I realise it's not what anyone is offering right now - just pointing out what has been argued and what people disliked. Anyway, I just think it's a bit dangerous to take this stuff lightly.
  12. Cheers, I'll have a look at that. Quite like Adam Curtis, always interesting although I often struggle to follow his point. HyperNormalisation was fascinating but baffling in equal measure.
  13. Yeah, I'm not going to try and defend it but what I will say is it would be unwise of any politician to underestimate the strength of feeling around immigration and particularly in certain demographics. Not saying I agree but it's a reality. Talk to most older people, or poorer people and immigration will strike a chord. It's an emotive issue and people generally vote emotionally. Certainly worked for Trump in 2016 and I'd argue it was the single biggest thing that contributed to Brexit. Most people knew that "take back control" had most resonance when it came to borders and controlling immigration - it had less effect when people talked about it in relation to our own laws because they couldn't name a single law they would repeal. They didn't need to be a genius to work out what controlling our borders meant. In fact, controlling immigration isn't even a stupid idea - it's self defeating and nuts to vilify anyone if they mention an immigration policy. I voted remain and I agree with all the arguments about the benefits of immigration so I'm not defending this government - just pointing out that, as a tactic, it's not that stupid and will convince some people to vote Tory. Don't think it'll work this time because the economy is down the pan and people are sick of the Tories (or at least I hope so).
  14. As far as I can see these released messages don't tell us anything we didn't already know. All I can see are some people who were opposed to lockdowns thinking they've got some kind of smoking gun.
  15. There's some players I wouldn't mind still doing a knee slide celebration.
  16. Yeah, I watched Moi a bit more closely than usual cos, you know, he works hard cuts off passing lanes etc etc. He was shite. I think he got a couple of interceptions but gave the ball away virtually every time. I don't think he's ever going to be the answer.
  17. We should have a poll. My suggestions are: A. Football visionary B. Slightly misguided but has some good ideas that will ultimately benefit us C. An alien D. Hipster bullshitter E. CUNT
  18. He’s a cunt
  19. Yeah, I was at Chelmsford and Pulp were the absolute highlight despite the fact I only knew their chart stuff. Was really impressed with them as a live band although the pedant in me will point out that it was V96 rather than V97. Sad news though, RIP.
  20. Moi and Orsic. The rest can fuck off.
  21. Players take the rap for me. They can produce against Chelsea twice and Man City but not against anyone else despite having had three managers. Blame lies with them and there's no more excuses - they got the guy they wanted and still fail to beat a league fucking 2 team. TBH once we go down I'm not sure I'm really that bothered whether any of them stay or not although I will say Djenepo is exempted from the criticism - he was about the only one who looked like he gave a shit.
  22. Yeah, it's hard to make a compelling case for any of the candidates. Ideally it would be Orsic and when he signed I had hopes we were getting a similar player to prime S. Armstrong but a bit quicker and clearly that's not happened. Whenever we get a break and the ball goes to Elynoussi my heart sinks - just know that the majority of the time he'll give the ball away or make the wrong decision.
  23. It's difficult and goes to show that we've got a bloated squad but still lacking in quality in certain areas. Hard to make a compelling case for anyone being an obvious standout replacement. I'd hoped that Orsic would be the one but he's not been good when he's played. After that it's probably Djenepo or Edozie although they're not quite the same type of player. Djenepo can do a job defensively if needed and can sometimes beat a player, provide an assist or score a goal. Edozie needs to work on his end product and tracking back. I guess Alcaraz but defensively he needs to shape up as well. Personally I'd be prepared to give Djenepo a try - thought he did well in the Spurs game at the start of the season and against Man City in the cup.
  24. It was my Uncle Derek's birthday yesterday and having the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine on the same day was a helpful memory jog. So from a purely selfish point of view yesterday was actually quite handy but other than that I think, like many others, that the war has been a bit shit. On a similar note I've got a friend who has her birthday on 9/11 and that's been a real lifesaver - never used to remember her birthday before the twin towers crashed down. Does anyone else know anyone with birthdays on major disasters or wars?
