  1. Should be really quick with Sunak as PM.
  2. We've finally signed Carlos Kickaball! I've been waiting fucking years to use that cliché. Ordinarily I'd be all over this signing - young South American flair player I've never heard of - it's every transfer fans dream. Hopefully he's good but without a decent striker then I can't see it making much difference.
  3. I remember when Mckennie was first linked to us a couple of years ago. The Athletic reporter, Carl Anka said he wasn’t worth it and that Harrison Reed was better. Always watched out for him since then and hasn’t struck me as anything special. Very workmanlike and that’s about it. Been linked with premier league clubs every window but telling that it’s never happened.
  4. This is the modern game. He doesn't need to be just EPL fit but needs to understand our identity and our philosophy. If he doesn't play with a smile on his face then he'll need to learn that too. All these things take time.
  5. Everton will take what they can get, much like we did with Bednarek and Stephens.
  6. Agree from the YouTube clips Beto looks a better player. Haven't seen enough of Jackson to have an opinion on him. Not sure why Beto would want to come here but he'd be my choice.
  7. If the end product is a long ball then it doesn't really matter if it's preceded by a few pointless passes or not.
  8. Couldn't watch the game last night (probably a good thing) but seen the others and they've mostly been awful. For all this talk of identity and style of play, I've seen no evidence of it and really doesn't appear to be much different to how we were playing earlier in the season. The three at the back doesn't seem to work and least Ralph mostly figured that out but the fact Jones is persevering with it is a worrying sign. In situations like this good managers don't seem to be overly concerned with imposing their own style or anything else radical. Instead they concentrate on getting players motivated, fighting and scrapping for the ball. Strachan did it and so did Ralph when he first arrived but after six weeks Jones hasn't managed to get anything looking like a fighting mentality and that's my biggest concern. If you're being generous you'd say that was more a problem with the players than the manager but buck stops with Jones and so far it's been a disaster with no signs of optimism.
  9. That midfield looks weak as fuck. Think this is probably the first time I've ever commented on a team selection before the game kicks off but it looks appalling.
  10. That was total wank.
  11. Merry Christmas Left Back, I think you're confused though. This Brexit is the price worth paying version rather than the sunlit uplands and economic prosperity of previous Brexit lies. That's what remoaners fail to realise, apparently.
  12. I think you could probably expand that to any sector where there isn’t genuine competition. Water stands out but trains as well. I wouldn’t mind energy coming back into public ownership either.
  13. I honestly don't know but would be surprised if that was all it is. Whenever there's been delays recently it's been due to staffing levels (at least as far as I can tell) so I'd imagine that's probably more likely to have had an effect. It's an easy cliché though - those on strike are lazy, moaning, work shy, rainbow thinking shirkers. I bet they even drink fancy coffee.
  14. This has all the hallmarks of an article written with a headline in mind. Is there any evidence it's actually true? From what I can tell it's anecdotal rather than anything concrete but could be the case. You mention that That seems to imply that the military are doing something different to what would normally be the case. Any idea what that would be? I'm not really sure what you mean by "a return to middle management, rainbow thinking and focus on net zero and lived experiences". Is that just a collection of things you don't like and would like to link to this? I mean, middle management, surely the armed forces must have the most middle management around - I've found 19 different ranks. As for the rest of it, it doesn't really appear relevant to the day to day duties of those on strike.
  15. At one point in the press conference Jones was asked about the younger players (think it was a question about academy prospects) and whilst NJ praised the academy he also mentioned about how vital experience was so wouldn't surprise me if we were looking at players like Woods and Fraser. From recollection I think the Luton fan on here mentioned about how much Jones valued experienced players.
  16. Normally when you have vacancies and a retention issue then increasing wages tends to address the problem to some extent. I'd have thought it would be in the govt interest to come to a settlement for that reason alone. The 19% figure is obviously not what the nurses will get and everyone knows this but it highlights just how much pay for nurses has fallen against inflation over the last decade - for everyone saying how big a figure it is and how the country can't afford it - why do you think nurses somehow can absorb the size of that kind of cut?
  17. Quite liked the video but doesn't really tell us too much. One of the things I'm looking forward and hoping for is that we'll have a bit more of an idea of what to do when we have the ball. It often seemed that RH was all about the press and that was fundamental but it didn't appear that there was as much consideration to what happened once we'd won the ball back. It's only a general impression but it seemed at times as if the plan was to win the ball back and then hope for the best.
  18. Completely agree. If you're not one of the top six then the premier league is boring. I was far more engaged in the championship and league one campaigns than I am now. Aspirations of mid table mediocrity isn't that much of a dream.
  19. Yeah, great player but fuck me it’s tedious hearing about it to the exclusion of everything else. The repetition is endless. I think he’s a great but don’t need it hammered home every single minute.
  20. Hope either Australia or the Dutch knock out Argentina cos I’m sick of hearing about how good Messi is.
  21. Barry Horne goal against Bolton in the FA Cup always springs to mind whenever this topic comes up. We were losing and into injury time when he pops up and produces a screamer from 35 yards that levels the match. Not sure if it's the best goal I've ever seen but certainly up there.
  22. Cheers although even those links seem to suggest we're not in a worse position than many of the rest of the G7. I guess it depends how a lot of the debt is structured as well.
  23. I'm no economist but is that actually true? From what I can see our debt to GDP ratio is quite low in comparison to many other countries (ours is 80.7% whereas France - 98.1%, US - 107%, Italy 135%, Japan - 237%) source: https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/countries-by-national-debt Debt is a funny old thing anyway. UK institutions and individuals own about 75% of our debt so those interest payments are helping some parts of the economy/society such as UK financial institutions and pensions. Obviously in a perfect world we'd have much less debt though.
  24. Can we actually recall him anyway? Thought it was a season long loan and we could only bring him back if both parties agree - can't see Burnley being too keen. I'd rather he stayed - from what I've read the lad needs confidence and he's getting that at Burnley alongside game time. The loan is working perfectly so would be loathe to change it although I'd be tempted if we don't strengthen the forward and wide areas in January.
