It was my Uncle Derek's birthday yesterday and having the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine on the same day was a helpful memory jog. So from a purely selfish point of view yesterday was actually quite handy but other than that I think, like many others, that the war has been a bit shit. On a similar note I've got a friend who has her birthday on 9/11 and that's been a real lifesaver - never used to remember her birthday before the twin towers crashed down. Does anyone else know anyone with birthdays on major disasters or wars?

Can we have a poll on how old he is? I’m going for 27 cos I don’t think that’s been taken yet.

Agree with everyone, sad news. I always felt that he was like Murray Walker - probably not the best commentator but more than made up for it with his enthusiasm and excitement. He enhanced the game whereas someone like Barry Davies always seemed a bit too negative in comparison. RIP

I've amended your message to better reflect the world we live in today. You're welcome. -
Absolutely, this is going to be my good luck ritual. Besides which, and completely unforeseen by me, they’re being rehabilitated before my very eyes and by the end of the season no one will be raising an eyebrow at the selection.

Leeds 0 Saints 9 Team picks itself: Bazunu Bree Yanny B Lyanco AMN Walcott Diallo Moi Djenepo A Armstrong Aribo I'd also pack the bench with kids so that we can give them valuable experience once we're 4 or 5 up.

My biggest doubt is I don't like the idea of a chant for Selles based on Achy Breaky Heart.

One of the beauties of winning is that I recorded MOTD and have just rewatched it. If the incident was the one that led to the Perraud clearance then it was ABK that climbs over Havertz and misses. -

OK, I'll be honest with you. A lot of thought went into putting that shit team together and the last thing I need is someone taking it seriously. -

You can sort them alphabetically if you want but that sounds like more analytical spreadsheet bollocks to me. -

Having seen the presser in full now, I’m impressed. Selles seems a good guy, with great teeth and a winning smile. It’s often said that a good presser acts as a launchpad for the actual game and although I haven’t seen the Graham Potter press conference I feel pretty confident that we’ve won it. I’d go so far as to say we’ve smashed it. The thing that really stood out for me was the Spanish accent, it’s more authentic and you really get the impression he knows what he’s talking about in a different language. Seems like exciting times are on their way. -

Look forward to seeing the press conference but sounds a bit more promising. Obviously difficult to judge because we don't know what role he's had in decision making processes but as I understand it he was brought in as a defensive coach (or at least to concentrate on that primarily) and we haven't become better at defending, and to be in charge of set pieces where, again, we've not been any good. I'm not writing him off but doesn't appear like he's really made much difference so far. I guess now he's in charge completely we'll get to judge him properly.

Gotcha, yeah, I imagine there might be a bit of remorse.

Difficult to comment without knowing who has made which decisions. There were rumours that Semmens wasn't going to allow Romeu to leave but SR (Ankerson) overruled him. How much of the summer transfer window (and lack of striker) was down to Semmens? Crucially how involved was he in appointing Jones? On the whole I think he did a pretty decent job whilst under Gao and with little to none financial backing. Wonder what it would be like if SR had just given him more cash?

I'll be interested to see the presser for the Chelsea game (assume it's today?). Difficult to say much about him as none of us have ever heard him speak and we know nothing about him other than where he's been. What sort of tactics and formations does he like? Is he a spiky little git like Jones or more personable? I don't really think a guy who has so far bounced around a few minor leagues as an assistant coach deserves to be given a chance to cut his managerial teeth at a premier league club but it'll be interesting to hear him speak.
-
Ok so just to be clear, Copenhagen good results were down to Selles but the shit we’ve seen this season isn’t anything to do with him? Appreciate that’s an over simplification but probably an argument it’s better to back away from.
-
Suspect there's probably time for all four of them before the season is out.
