  1. Sure looks a lot like being miserable to me. By you lot I meant the grief police, it was a general point and probably doesn’t really apply to you that much so apologies for that. Just think the disrespectful argument is a bit of a cop out. Sure some people have been but generally most aren’t and no one as far as I can see has come up with a reason why going to a football match is disrespectful. Stupid idea and should rightly be criticised.
  2. To be fair you lot are obliged to be miserable for 10 days so probably not really the best point you could make.
  3. Nothing is happening this weekend though so it’s not clashing with a major historical event. Cancelling the matches is a gesture, nothing more than that, and instead of going to the football most people will do something different that doesn’t better reflect any sense of grief. There simply isn’t a compelling reason to cancel the games.
  4. None of us are getting any time off to mourn so, in that respect, sport will be no different to the rest of the country.
  5. That's the thing though - it's a personal choice isn't it? If someone feels that bad about it then they're perfectly at liberty to not do something. I've no problem with that. Anyone who doesn't want to mourn in a specific way shouldn't have to either. Win, win. Slightly related note, I'm not sure what exactly we're supposed to be doing whilst we mourn and not go to football matches etc. Do we sit in silence thinking about the Queen?
  6. On the last point I've been preparing for this and I'm in a much better position than when Diana died. That was horrible. I've got Netflix and prime and the internet is pretty good for alternative viewing. I don't even listen to UK radio stations much of the time so I think I should be pretty much insulated from all of it. You can never quite be sure though so I'm still a little apprehensive.
  7. How does that work then? Truss announces a new home secretary and Patel leaves? That's pretty much a given, you don't have to write a letter for that - it's patently obvious you've been sacked.
  8. She hasn't even got the support of most of them. Of the people entitled to vote only 47.2% voted for her, 35% for Sunak and the remaining 17.8% either not bothering or spoiling their vote. I think she'll struggle to galvanise her own party let alone attract anyone outside it to vote for her.
  9. Yeah, makes sense to go the country after the next Tory leader is announced. Do we have any news on when the first round of voting for new leader starts? I'm assuming they'll want to get it over with by Christmas.
  10. Pretty sure I read that City also have a clause that gives them the opportunity to match any bid that we accept. So the buy back might not kick in till 2024 but if we choose to cash in next summer when Chelsea bid 100 million then we’re obligated to invite City to match that bid.
  11. I like Che Adams and that chance epitomises him. It’s a big fuck you to the premier league and his own team mates. He’s basically saying don’t give me an easy chance that anyone can score, I’m better than that you cunts. OK, in the context of the game it looks bad but we’ve all got to look at the wider picture and applaud the sheer audacity of a man that refuses to take the easy way out. Good on ya Che, you’re a legend.
  12. Thought we looked like a team that had played three matches in eight days today. Looked slower all over the pitch, passing was off and so was concentration. I know it's the same for every club but seems to affect us worse. Maybe it was just a poor day at the office but whatever the reason it's a bit frustrating. Team (and manager) have a bit of credit in the bank so hopefully we can return to a better performance against Brentford. I'm not sure a midfield two of JWP and Diallo will work whilst we wait for Lavia to get back to fitness. Maybe AMN and JWP could be the answer, or we might have to leave out someone like Moi and go with a three in midfield. On the subject of Moi - thought he was particularly poor today. Far too slow at releasing the ball when he had the opportunity. Stuart Armstrong should always be starting instead of him. On the plus side I thought the Edozie cameo was promising. Thought he might be too lightweight but I'm hopeful he'll be decent for us now. Also, Mara might not have the industry of Adam Armstrong but he's far more of a goal threat (THAT header aside) - I'd be thinking of starting him in favour of Armstrong soon.
  13. I was taking the mickey but I agree with you. Signing a new contract wouldn't be a great idea if there wasn't a route to the first team but in the case of Broja there is. He's getting minutes and they're still light up front. If I were Broja then I'd be signing that contract as well.
  14. Think you're missing the point here. By signing a new contract he's making it harder to move to another club where he can excel and then get a move back to Chelsea. By simply staying at Chelsea he risks not getting a move back to Chelsea................
  15. That’s the team I think Ralph will pick as well with S Armstrong and JWP alternating between midfield and the central 10 position. I reckon the priority will be a clean sheet and looks a good opportunity to get one. Will probably shape up to be more counter attack than pressing.
  16. Didn't Matt Le Tiss claim that his older brothers were as good or better than he was but couldn't settle on the mainland? Would imagine this type of thing might be more common than we're aware of. I'm guessing when he left Saints it was on amicable terms and that's paid off now. Good news all round and Tyler can get on with concentrating on his football and not worrying about all the other peripheral stuff. Plenty of time for that later, important thing is to get to the point where he's delivering on his potential.
  17. 7 for me but it's difficult to judge players when you haven't seen them play - might revise it up (or down) after a few games. Pros are central defence and midfield. ABK looks awesome and no problem calling that an improvement. Not sure about Caleta-Car looks a bit like Lyanco (who I like) but whether he's much better is difficult to say without seeing him play. Similarly Lavia looks a great buy and very happy with him. On the face of it AMN is a good bit of business as well. I guess the wider forward/10 positions are better but it's a bit more marginal. Aribo looks dangerous at times and I think he carries a greater goal threat. Edozie is another that's difficult to tell - at first glance I think he'll struggle with the physicality side of things but who knows. Cons: We wanted a fullback as cover and we didn't really get one. I don't see Larios as one for the first team right now; if Perraud gets injured I suspect we'd ask Djenepo to play instead. Could be wrong but that's how I see it. If KWP gets injured then we're looking at JWP playing there so it's not ideal. Striker: Bit light on numbers here. An injury to Che and I think we're struggling a bit. Obviously we were looking and didn't get anyone in. On the plus side it should give ample opportunities to Mara and A Armstrong. Would be good if Mara takes that chance because I think he could be a decent player. Imagine most will think 7 is a bit low but I'm working on 5 being distinctly average so 7 is a pretty good effort.
  18. Fuck it, lets just get Mebude in from City. We've probably earned enough clubcard points off them to get him for next to nothing anyway.
  19. Will be glad if we can get Caleta-Car. Not because I really know much about him but seems like he's suggested every single window. I'm expecting him to be the second coming after the hype he's had.
  20. Don't really think that's true - pretty much everyone has been wondering who we would get in up front all summer. Gakpo happened to tick the boxes recently that's all. If we hadn't been linked with him then people would still be disappointed with the business we've done to strengthen the attack. Not sure people would have been raving about Edozie either - doesn't appear to come with the same pedigree as the other youth signings. Neither does the other fella either. I'll judge them when I see them play and hopefully they're very good but they look at first glance as squad fillers rather than straight into the first team. None of this is meant as implying the window has been entirely disappointing because clearly it hasn't. Just that the glaring problem all summer was to improve the quality up front and that's not happened (unless anything changes). SR obviously thought so too otherwise they wouldn't have bid so much for Gakpo so I imagine they're as disappointed in that regard as we are.
  21. He looks like he's being held captive and they've chopped his arms off.
  22. Time to move on from Gakpo and start blaming him for an attitude problem. What we should do though is dedicate the next three or four transfer windows to outbidding and unsettling any PSV future targets we can find. Also, pay any opposition hardmen to go in on some x rated tackles on Gakpo. There's numerous things we can do to the PSV hierarchy behind the scenes as well. That'll send a strong message to any clubs who want to fuck us around again. Besides, I'm not convinced he's any better than Theo Walcott.
  23. Think it’s more whether PSV sell than anything else. Strange old situation because it doesn’t feel like Gakpo is really pushing for a move so PSV should have just told us to jog on if they don’t want to sell.
  24. No, he's on a saga holiday with James Garner (star of Rockford Files and Maverick)
