  1. One thing you could do would be to implement rent control. You could also limit credit to people who are buying to let - landlords would own their properties outright and would be less subject to interest rate fluctuations.
  2. Much better interviews than the ones he did for the official site and a lot more detail in there. Interesting that he's come out and said explicitly that Russell Martin is his hire. That does suggest that Ankerson has deferred to Wilcox (which is what he should be doing). I'm sure they're all "aligned" etc but good to know that Wilcox is making the decisions. As a fan it's hard to get enthused by "generating asset value" and I don't see it becoming a chant to rival "Up the football league we go" but I understand what they want to do and it's not a bad way to run a club. We're definitely in a better place having kids like Livramento and Lavia as asset values even if we don't hold onto them for as long as we'd like.
  3. I think the gifts varied from person to person. Mine was fucking free holiday and a pair of Baz's gloves.
  4. I'm actually not but unlike you I'm not blind to the limitations of the system we're using. You seem to think that anything bad that happens will be down to the individual qualities of the players rather than the fact that we'll be inviting pressure. Whilst that may happen at times, the system encourages it. It does it for a reason and I understand that reason but all the same - it's a risky strategy and will result in conceding goals regardless of the quality of the players. Here's a good example of that with Swansea playing West Brom last season. Watch the first 40 seconds. Ryan Manning gets caught in possession and plays an awful pass (he did the same against Bournemouth). That's not because of the quality of Ryan Manning - it's because he's playing how he's been told to. Russell Martin understands this, he's warned us mistakes will be made - it's about time you listened to him
  5. Yeah ok, management bollocks then. Probably why Nathan Jones was so fond of the phrase
  6. Read your post wrong - ignore.
  7. Oh come on, a post or two ago you included Stephens and DCC in the "utter trash" group and now one is good enough and the other you haven't seen enough to be totally conclusive on. You're all over the place. You're being naïve if you think getting different players in is going to change a fundamental thing about this system - and that's that the defence will be exposed and it will give up chances. The personnel won't change that massively although it may help when getting the ball into midfield. I'm sure that Martin knows that and it's a trade off he thinks is worth it, or he'll be pragmatic and adjust it. Either way I'm prepared that the defence is going to look dodgy at times.
  8. What is this play on the front foot?
  9. There's only your eyes to mask?
  10. Weren't you championing DCC before we signed him? Seem to recall there was a big clamour for us to get him for a season or so before he actually signed and TBH he's average. I'm sure whoever we bring in (maybe Ronnie Edwards) will be hailed as the great solution and then when it turns out he isn't the new Beckenbauer you'll be calling for us to shift him on and buy better. Again. Your solution to just buy better players is unrealistic - we're not going to get massive upgrades on the players we're trying to shift and we'll be lucky to shift all of them anyway. At some point you'll need to realise that a good manager will work with what he's got and adapt accordingly.
  11. That's true but only to a certain extent. Yes, the individual players could be better but the system actively invites pressure upon them. If the solution to that is simply buy better players then good luck with that - we couldn't get better defenders when we were in the premier league so what makes you think we'll do so now? This should be a compromise situation - yes, Martin has a philosophy of inviting pressure onto the the defence but will also need to be pragmatic enough to know that won't always be possible and adapt to suit the personnel we do have.
  12. Sounds like Baz in league one for Pompey.
  13. Very sad. Not listened to much of her later stuff but I do not want what I haven’t got is a great album.
  14. Exactly, 9M doesn’t even get you a kid from Man City. It’s a bit of an insult to Tella as well. In fact if they’re going in with unrealistic bids then they might as well chuck the same in for Mbappe.
  15. That’s the kind of bid that results in people not taking your calls. Good news from our perspective cos it shows Burnley aren’t serious about Tella.
  16. TBF if "they" did the opposite and said they wanted to play in the mens game then there would be an equal reaction from those getting worked up about them playing in the womens game so they can't really win. Seems like they're taking the view that in this context it's right to play in the womens game because biologically that's what they are. All those people complaining about biological men competing as women should be applauding this move. I don't really understand how you can be both transgender and non-binary either. It's a strange concept but I doubt there's enough of them to have much of a World Cup on their own.
  17. I hope they do some retro replica shirts again. Not a fan of any of the new kits.
  18. Thanks, nice read. I predict you will fall in love with Southampton and our sexy football. You'll also have a poster of Will Smallbone on your bedroom wall.
  19. He could be but I think it's pretty clear he's not in our plans. In a way I feel sorry for the lad - he's not had much of a chance at all and would have hoped for at least the opportunity to make a difference. Suspect it'll be a loan back to Genk that's more likely than anything else.
  20. The irony is that in two years half the players we're now clamouring to sign will be the ones we're clamouring to just get rid of even if it means taking a financial hit.
  21. On the face of it you've got a bloke who didn't really have an exceptional scoring record in Scotland (albeit apparently used out on the wing for some of that time) who had a purple patch in L1 and seemed to do OK in the championship until his injury. It's not the most exciting link we could have had although it's probably one of the cheapest options.
  22. I think it'll be Baz Tino Bednarek Stephens Manning Charles Smallbone Alcaraz Tella Mbappe
  23. Does sound a bit bizarre at first but ultimately it's a biological female playing in a female competition. Whatever they identify as is irrelevant. It's all a bit click baity really.
  24. Ideal pre season friendly - decent opposition and both players and manager should have learnt a fair bit. My thoughts: Bit harsh on Charles to play at CB - it's obviously not his position and he'll not be playing it unless absolutely necessary Edozie needs to knuckle down a bit - talented kid but needs to work a bit harder. Seemed to lose the ball far too much. Neither Livramento or KWP look comfortable with an inverted fullback role. Bree didn't even look like he fancied it enough to try it. Lavia is phoning it in. Sam AA looks awesome. We'll need to manage him but great prospect and deserves quite a lot of first team minutes. Will Smallbone should start against Sheff Weds. Links up play well, good first touch, great vision and more than capable of providing key passes. Out of everyone so far he's been the standout for me. Defensively still a few question marks but RM should be looking at a formation that means we can cover that. Seems like we'll be playing it out from the back most of the time - don't really mind that but he needs to be pragmatic enough to put less emphasis on that all the time we don't have a defence capable of it.
  25. Think you're being overly pessimistic there - at the most 15M? We should be getting our money back or thereabouts otherwise it's not worth selling January window wasn't great in the context of getting us out of relegation but we ended up with Alcaraz, Sulemana and Bree - all of whom could be important players for us. Tall Paul and Orsic weren't great though.
