  1. Which kind of makes the point that spending more doesn't make as much difference as people think it does. In fact I think the correlation between spending more and the value you get from that player widens the more you spend. Not always, of course, but I'm guessing at least some of these clubs regret spending so much on: Villa - Buendia 33M B'mouth - Lerma 25M Palace - Benteke 27M Everton - Siggurdson 45M Fulham - Anguissa 27M Leeds - Rodrigo 27M West Ham - Haller 45M Wolves - Silva 35.6M I'll admit that's a bit off topic but worth pointing out.
  2. Not sure why you're fixated on 25M - it's not the reported size of the bid for Broja. Fact is you're making out that only Saints have a problem with spending that much on a player but it's simply not the case - we're one of eight clubs that have never spent that much (30M) on a single player. By all means complain and wish we were spending that sort of money but don't make out it's unique to us because clearly it isn't. Situation is far more nuanced than just spending the money anyway. Lets say we have 30M and are prepared to use it on the right player - what does that get you? It should get a little more than just potential, it should get both potential and a bit of experience. Not the finished article but certainly less risky than the academy prospects we've been looking at. All good so far. Player is going to be in that 24-26 age group more than likely, so approaching his peak and with a good resale value. All still great. Problem is that player is not going to be looking at us as a step up - they'll probably be trying to get clubs that offer european football and much closer to the champions league. They're not going to be sold on mid table consolidation. I actually agree with you that West Ham would be the better option for Broja at this stage of his career which means that this isn't just about money. Just a hunch but I wouldn't be surprised if we were happy to go to something like 25M, the problem is we're competing against clubs that can offer more than we can (in footballing terms).
  3. Except that the bid is supposed to be 35M euros, so almost 30M Sterling. That beats the club record transfer fee for 40% of premier league clubs. Apart from that, spot on.
  4. Wasn’t Tom in the territorial army? Thought his day job was in Public relations. Truss is like some mad Gerry Anderson puppet. Also she has a nostril that looks like it’s trying to escape from the rest of her face
  5. Just watching the leadership debate on ITV and have to say I agree with all 5 candidates. It really is time for a change.
  6. He played up front a fair bit and scored goals. Nothing to say he couldn’t make the switch permanently. Anyway someone asked for an example and I gave one. That’s all
  7. Cornet probably represents better value for money but possibly lower resale value. Would imagine both would score a similar amount next season were we to sign either. Just an example mind, not saying we should, are or will sign him
  8. That's a fucking amazing statement of the blindingly obvious.
  9. The figure in euros flatters the size of the bid a bit but still represents a transfer record for about 40% of premier league clubs so it is serious money especially for the age and record of the player
  10. That’s serious money. Not sure I would go that high and I like Broja. I guess that’s probably straight cash with no buy back or sell on, and also includes a fair amount in add ons but even so, it’s a big outlay for the lad. You’d imagine it blows us out the water. Almost relieved, I’d hate to lose out by the odd million but I don’t think it’s wise to match that bid, and there’s probably better value out there.
  11. Winks plays as a deep lying midfielder as does Romeu. Go and watch the tactical analysis video of Winks.
  12. Yes, they do play in the same role.
  13. I think Winks is more suited to the Romeo role than the JWP one. He seems to have a better range of passing than Romeo does. I don't mind Winks but not sure whether he would be worth the money and how it would affect the development of Lavia. I wouldn't be complaining if we signed him but in the context of other more pressing areas of the pitch it would seem a strange one.
  14. Got anything about the reduction in waiting times? They came down quite dramatically. The internal market was always a crap idea though - I'll give you that.
  15. What part of it did he make private? Are you talking about the PFI schemes?
  16. No one moaned about the NHS under Blair and it's not that long ago. He chucked money at it, and it worked.
  17. Yeah, definitely feels like the club are very keen on Colwill. It's not a position we have to strengthen in but get the impression that they feel he's too good to pass up (bit like the Livramento deal). Lots of things point to Delap as well and with Shields in place it probably puts us in as good a position as anyone. There were also a few articles at the tail end of the season suggesting that the club recognised that we didn't have enough variation in the number 10 positions so they'll have identified that. I think Aribo addresses it to an extent but I think he's also been brought in as competition/cover for S. Armstrong so another 10 on the left sounds likely.
  18. I reckon it'll be Stuart Armstrong with Aribo taking 17 which was his number with Rangers and Charlton.
  19. How would you make sure those high potential young players don’t become mediocre crap jamming up the squad and preventing us signing the next batch of high potential young players?
  20. Think the big thing with Delap is whether City are happy to sell rather than loan. Can certainly see why they would prefer a loan and if it’s something we’re not interested in then fair enough. Otherwise I’d be really surprised to lose out to Burnley.
  21. Seems likely if she gets to the final round. For the life of me I can't think why she's so popular with them though - I don't think I can recall ever hearing her speak and I watch a fair bit of news. Is it because she was on celebrity reality show?
  22. I dunno, Truss is pretty clear on where she stands in relation to cheese but I don’t even know if Starmer has a position on any dairy products, let alone cheese. I think Starmer will have a tough time if the Tories attack along those lines.
  23. If Diallo goes then I would guess we either stick and leave a spot for maybe a youth player (don’t think Smallbone is ready for central midfield but maybe someone else?) or we bring in another young academy type option. Can’t see us going for Winks, I don’t think he’s that bad but doesn’t offer enough for the price or wages. To be honest I hope Diallo stays.
  24. I've dredged up: Lee Sinnott, Peter Beagrie and Andy Reid. More recently didn't we agree a fee for James Maddison but he chose Leicester instead?
  25. It's simply a tactic to get Tory MPs to publically back Boris and look a bit stupid. I'm not sure it's worth bothering with especially as the the leadership contenders will be ripping themselves to shreds. Labour are better off standing back and letting them look increasingly divided. They could wheel out "The charge of the lightweight brigade" quote again though - that's got the power to stick.
