Tough one. Everton can probably offer more money and dugouts but we can offer a quicker route to a top club if he does well. Imagine we'd be more open to a get out clause in the event of relegation as well.

Option 1: A boat load of cash. Option 2: It's bollocks. Option 3: It's a line we can trot out to show we at least tried to recruit a striker. It's probably option 2. I've not completely given up on the Rennes winger - seems to me that Rennes have a player who isn't playing regularly and wants to move and as the deadline gets closer they're trying to extract as much as they can. Dunno if he's the answer or not but I'm not writing it off just yet.

I never thought Aribo would be that good anyway but his signing was a strange one because he didn't fit the profile of a typical Ralph kind of player and neither does he appear to suit how NJ wants to play. I don't actually think he's that lazy but I do think he's too slow both in terms of reactions and in general. Kind of player that would excel in a slower paced league.

We could sign Origi off Milan if they get Saint Maximin. I'd take him

Yeah, I thought Alcarez was pretty good against Newcastle. Orsic didn't do much but too early to judge that and on paper looks a decent signing. Bree kind of makes sense and I'll judge him when I've seen him. As you say, it's the striker that's the problem and outside of Beto there hasn't even been that many names that seem at first look to get excited over either.

I think we should play a game - the next time a new link crops up we should race to see who can say "he's shit, not the answer and my mate watches him regularly and he agrees" first. No cash prize, it's just for fun. Urgh, this is one of the more depressing windows, isn't it?

I know but thanks anyway.

Yeah, exactly. NJ was the first to mention a long term injury and that's my point. If it had been mentioned earlier I doubt many would have said much. In the same way not many are questioning Lavia being subbed in every game, or ABK or Livramento not playing.
-
Care to point out when Ralph said he had a long term injury? If he had said that then no one would have questioned the situation but he didn't. In the absence of any information on his injury, it was entirely reasonable to ask questions about him not being selected or playing much at all.

Bit before my time but like quite a bit of his stuff, particularly "Southern Cross", perfect summer song. Always thought it was about lynching in the south but turns out it's about a boat. I need to get some CSN on the jukebox. Subject of how music is accessible is interesting. On the one hand you've got pretty much anything ever recorded within your grasp but on the other, it's hard to know where to start. I bet anyone over a certain age remembers their devotion to the charts and would know exactly what the top 10 was but it seems largely irrelevant now. Does anyone still follow it? Similarly TV programmes like TOTP and The Tube although I suppose there's still Jools Holland. Same with the music press - no one buys magazines/papers anymore and whilst a lot is online it's the same as with streaming services - lots of content but almost too much. Radio stations are probably the last bastion of traditional music consumption but with internet radio even that can be overwhelming. Also a lack of definitive movements that define decades - loads and loads of diversity which is a good thing but I kind of miss the tribal elements of music. Obviously still exists but to a lesser extent. Probably me getting older.

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.

I may have you confused with someone else but didn't you vote for Brexit? Not many unashamed liberal democrat brexiteers around - you must have been a collectors item. Apologies if it wasn't you and not really having a dig - just seemed a strange combination. -
Wright man for the job?

27 years old, converted fullback, did well in Holland, nicknamed "The Schoonhoven Locomotive", gets lots of crosses in, seems like an energetic fullback that gets forward a lot but hasn't really done that well in Italy. Monza, Marseille, Lyon and Bournemouth all linked with him.
-
Supposedly both Villa and Wolves have been or are interested in Jackson although whether that's true or not is up for debate. If it's true then their respective managers will know him relatively well and that's a positive. I'm trying to keep an open mind about Jackson. I don't think he's the answer to our problems but if he's in addition to a striker then might not be a bad signing.
-
Palace and Brentford both supposed to be interested so it's not just us. Comes with a fair number of question marks - failed in Germany and Holland, did OK in Denmark and well in Turkey.
-
You make valid points and even 25-30M doesn't guarantee a striker will work out. Only flaw is that if we choose to sign someone like Jackson and it doesn't work out whilst Ings was available then that's a conscious decision to not sign an out and out striker. No one has a crystal ball but the idea that a player can come into a different league, without a scoring record to speak of, playing as a wide forward and score more goals than Ings is probably more on the unlikely end of the spectrum.
-
Agree, I think we should wait for a top quality striker available for a reasonable price. If we can't do it this window then we should do it in the summer, or the window after that, or the window after that. There's no rush and better than spending the going price for a striker in one of the top leagues..............
-
Yeah, I'm in the same camp. All transfers are risks and strikers even more so, so Ings would seem about the safest bet around in comparison to anything else. Everything we do in this window is subservient to getting a new striker (and a decent one that works out) so whilst I don't have a problem with Orsic, Alcaraz or Jackson, it won't look like a good window if we're still left with a glaring problem up top. I know Che isn't to everyones taste but imagine if he gets a serious injury - we're fucked.
-
I looked him up on YouTube and all I learnt was that the MLS is still a pretty shit league.
-
Oh yes, I agree, and it's better than having a bunch of players no one else wants. I just wouldn't want to lose both JWP and Lavia in the same transfer window. Realistically I reckon next summer we'll see Salisu, KWP and one of JWP or Lavia leave. That's if we stay up. Would imagine we'll see a few fringe move as well - Diallo, both or one of the Armstrongs, Walcott. Maybe even Aribo. Summer is likely to be a busy one.
-
Think both are equally likely and both will attract bids. Whether we'll let both go is another matter but if a bid comes in from a decent sized ambitious club (Newcastle?) and JWP wanted to move then I think we'd find it hard to say no to him.
-
Suspect there's an element of planning for the summer going on. Wouldn't surprise me if both Lavia and JWP are subject to lots of speculation about leaving which is a bit of a worry. Gallagher could fill a JWP sized hole although I would imagine he would have some other, better options.

I speak for all Saints fans everywhere and we'd all collectively like to say that the manager and team deserve some real credit for what has happened.

Proper noun statistical analysis isn't it?

How about a distant relative or an Auntie? Maybe they're at a party, they're both alone, both had too much to drink and their eyes meet. They know it's wrong but they can't help themselves. A fleeting thought passes your distant relatives mind, "What would Lord Duckhunter think?" It's gone in an instant though as she gives herself to her carnal cravings whilst Nathan ponders the depths of her valley. When forming an opinion do you always wonder what it would be like if they were screwing members of your family? Obviously in this case you've discarded it but always interesting to see the thought processes of people.
