Chelsea 0-1 Saints - Match Thread
revolution saint replied to Midfield_General's topic in The Saints
Chelsea 0 Saints 9 Team picks itself: Bazunu Bree Bednarek Lyanco AMN Diallo Moi Walcott Djenepo Aribo A. Armstrong Was going to go with 5 at the back but I think this is the kind of game where we need to go for it. -
Look forward to seeing the press conference but sounds a bit more promising. Obviously difficult to judge because we don't know what role he's had in decision making processes but as I understand it he was brought in as a defensive coach (or at least to concentrate on that primarily) and we haven't become better at defending, and to be in charge of set pieces where, again, we've not been any good. I'm not writing him off but doesn't appear like he's really made much difference so far. I guess now he's in charge completely we'll get to judge him properly.

Gotcha, yeah, I imagine there might be a bit of remorse.
-
Difficult to comment without knowing who has made which decisions. There were rumours that Semmens wasn't going to allow Romeu to leave but SR (Ankerson) overruled him. How much of the summer transfer window (and lack of striker) was down to Semmens? Crucially how involved was he in appointing Jones? On the whole I think he did a pretty decent job whilst under Gao and with little to none financial backing. Wonder what it would be like if SR had just given him more cash?

I'll be interested to see the presser for the Chelsea game (assume it's today?). Difficult to say much about him as none of us have ever heard him speak and we know nothing about him other than where he's been. What sort of tactics and formations does he like? Is he a spiky little git like Jones or more personable? I don't really think a guy who has so far bounced around a few minor leagues as an assistant coach deserves to be given a chance to cut his managerial teeth at a premier league club but it'll be interesting to hear him speak.

Ok so just to be clear, Copenhagen good results were down to Selles but the shit we’ve seen this season isn’t anything to do with him? Appreciate that’s an over simplification but probably an argument it’s better to back away from.
-
Suspect there's probably time for all four of them before the season is out.
-
If Selles was that highly rated he'd have been appointed instead of Jones. He didn't exactly set the world alight when he took charge against Sheffield Wednesday. Not expecting anything at all from him, or the rest of the season.
-
They’ve fucked up on pretty much all fronts.
-
Except it wasn't everyone, was it?
-
Selles assisted by Thorup in a reverse of their Copenhagen days is my guess.
-
Shame. Was really coming round to the idea of Marsch and he seemed the best fit and best chance if we're serious about avoiding relegation. FFS Rasmus is going to take a lot of flak when we go down.
-
Yes, I suspect we're hoping that Potter is available in the summer or we can persuade either Tuchel or Poch to come here. Bit difficult to sell the club at the moment but come the summer it's a different kettle of fish and we'll probably have our pick of any of those three. The short term contract makes sense,
-
He’s ex saints and would jump at the chance. Only took the Chelsea job cos we hadn’t got rid of Ralph.
-
Mental innit? Everyone knows we should be waiting for when Potter gets sacked
-
Undoubtedly will although how many times have we played a high press this season? Hasn't really been that often and last Saturday was a bit of an exception. On the plus side we'll probably score more and I'm hoping that plus better defenders will be enough.
-
Anyone else think Nathan is going to end up as a PE teacher in Wales?
-
Works both ways - they'll have a pretty good idea of how he wants us to play. He'll obviously know a bit more about their players though so slight advantage to us I guess. I'm looking forward to two pressing teams going head to head for 60 mins and then having a nap.
-
I looked Thorup up yesterday and came across this: It's not that positive but I guess at least he would be back working with Selles. Doesn't look like happening anyway.
-
Without wanting to get into an argument - I wasn't moaning just pointing out that if you don't like Marsch then what would be your alternative? You were the one who took issue with it. If you don't have a better idea (and it sounds like you don't) then fine - go ahead pointing out what everyone else already knows. Oh and I made no mention of Jones whatsoever - strawman argument mate.
-
I'll be honest, I didn't read all your post cos it's too long but I'll reply as you quoted me. I want to know who people would appoint other than Marsch because otherwise it just sounds like you're moaning. I can accept Marsch isn't perfect and have said as much but IMO he's the best we could realistically get. By all means moan about it but if you don't have a better suggestion then it's a bit pointless. We can all do it but doesn't achieve much of anything.
-
As this is the Jesse Marsch thread I think it would be useful for anyone who wouldn't be happy appointing him to also say who they would give the job to. Marsch wouldn't be my pick in an ideal world but I prefer him over the other realistic candidates.
-
I wish him all the best. Even more so if he takes Moi and Yanny B to his new club.
-
Any appointment could be an unmitigated disaster. Whoever is appointed will be under massive pressure from the start and if they don't get results will get stick for being rubbish. Most of the potential (realistic) candidates have been sacked by clubs in similar positions. So really the only point out of all that is that he's American.

Why is he eating his T Shirt? Surely it can't be that long till snack time?
