So the positives today were Gazzaniga, McCarthy and Stephens, Reed was his combative self without any product. Wanyama was immense. Valencia had one chance and won the game. We were the better team. Early days and Martinez has a lot to learn. Many missed chances and a little disappointed with the second match. We had a bunch of individuals. I knew Morgan wouldn't play and I think this did have an effect on the second team. Gape needs more time. I think Saints are signing or bringing through far too many vertically challenged players. Not impressed with any of the new players today. Very early days.

Agree But a professional should be able to do the job he's given. It's just football intelligence.

I mostly watched the first teamers. With regards to Ramirez I think he was a stand out player against RB Leipzig. His biggest problem for me is his positioning and that he get's caught ball watching. He played Right midfield, but didn't entirely understand what was required of him defensively. His role was to defend the player on the outside, leaving our right back to defend on the inside. Doubling up if you will. Time and time again in the first half Ramirez was out of position. What I did like was how hard he tried to get back into position. Maybe the game is too quick for him?? One thing is for sure! He's really up for it this pre-season and that's what a trainer wants to see.

Remember Alderweireld's injury at Old Trafford? Who replaced him and then helped us keep a clean sheet.bthat takes balls. Looks very good in training. I think he'll step up this season if given the chance. Not all players hit the ground running. Look at Lovren for Liverpool.

The picture above is a good example. The Leipzig player slide tackles with the wrong foot. He missed the ball and it was a really reckless challenge on Jay-Rod. Of course it went unpunished by the referee and wasn't even a foul.

Just one thing I noticed today in training was how many technical errors these players make. For example receiving the ball with the wrong foot or passing with the outside of the right foot when it should be with the inside of the left.

Schneiderlin Joins Manchester United (Official)
Andy Durman replied to Bewildered's topic in The Saints
At training today Schneiderlin was the perfect professional and did everything with a smile on his face. Please stop making up such rubbish that he's unhappy. Yes he wants to play CL, but he also respects the situation and more importantly Ronald Koeman and Southampton FC. -
I'll be there!!! Watched training this morning and must say that was an excellent session. It flowed and so it should when you have 8 trainers/physio's coordinating everything. I learnt a great deal, but it wasn't that different to what I'm doing with my Oberliga Team in Vienna. The main difference was the tempo. Isgrove, Turnball and McQueen trained with the first team. I think Turnball is rated more than Stephens. Afterwards I drove to Innsbruck for one night and have booked into The Saints hotel for the final two nights. I will try and get a lift if I can in the team bus to the tournament. If you don't ask, you don't get. Shame I'll miss training tomorrow. Night all.

Hi Alpine I got in 40 minutes before kick off and went down the bottom end to watch the goalkeepers warm up. Then the rest of team came out so I went behind our dug out. The security then stopped anyone coming through from the stand area so I ended standing directly behind the dug out and was able to hear all the comments from Ronald, Erwin and Sammy. It was really interesting. I looked for you after the match, but could find you to say hello. I thought first half was quite even, but we didn't move the ball fast enough and there seemed to be a lack of understanding of what RK wanted. I'll give you the example of McCarthy and Ramirez. When defending McCarthy should push inside and Ramirez should stay on the outside and press/block the ball. Ramirez sometimes stayed to far forward and left McCarthy too exposed. Other times McCarthy went to far forward and became out of position with a quick counter attack. Sometimes McCarthy stayed on the outside instead of tucking inside and closing the space. I'm surprised both McCarthy and Ramirez made such basic errors. Second half after Jays goal, we became disorganized and we lost our shape. At 1-5 Ronald brought McCarthy back to left centre half and brought Shane Long on and we took control of the game. RB Leipzig were physical and moved the ball at times with a good tempo. They also had a lot of youngsters playing second half. Enjoyed the day looking forward to watching training tomorrow. Enjoyed watching Ronald getting involved in the training. Still passes the ball well.

Wow that was great fun. I spent the second half standing next to Mane and talking with his agent. His agent shared his umbrella with me, which I really did appreciate. He told me that there had been no interest in Mane from Bayern and that he is very happy at Southampton. So to the game. I think McCarthy looks an incredible athlete, but needs to learn quickly how to play right back and to read the game if he wants to be considered for the first team. He was out of position far to often. Isgrove looked a real threat. He really is fast. I can understand why we've held onto him. Could this be the season he breaks through?? Jack Stephens and Turnbull did very well under pressure. Turnbull was caught out of position a few times and Stephens was too slow with his distribution. Reed was very aggressive, but his passing was poor and he created very little. Ramirez did a lot of good things, but he didn't seem comfortable playing right midfield, he really did try, won the ball a few times and held the ball very well, but he didn't do defensively what was asked of him.

I thought he looked good in training today. Certainly enjoyed himself.

Hey worried it might get cancelled. Heavy rain. You can't see the mountains any more
-
Saints will arrive for the match already changed. They will not use the facilities. Quick warm up and play. Probably will arrive no later than 45 mins before match
-
Tickets cost 5 Euro's so I read on the poster at the ticket office. No big crowd expected. Maybe couple of 100 Germans. Morgan was training today.
-
So looks like Gaston and more importantly Jay-Rod will play tonight. I think I was the only English person watching training this morning.
-
Tickets cost €10.00 pay on arrival. Expect heavy rain. Maybe even thunder storms
-
MLG thanks for that

So I arrived at Salzburg airport at 19:15. They were supposed to arrive at 18:50. They landed at 18:37 and had left in the direction of Bischofshofen. I tried to catch them, but failed. Does anybody know where they're staying?? It's somewhere close by. A local team was training on the pitch at Bischofshofen. It really is a small local stadium, but the grass is perfect.

Since I can remember Tottenham have always seemed to do their business in the media

Schneiderlin Joins Manchester United (Official)
Andy Durman replied to Bewildered's topic in The Saints
He's in training because at the moment he's not going anywhere! -
So I'm going. Does anybody have ticket information? When will Saints fly in? Will there be a training session beforehand? Will they train at Red Bull Salzburg's facilities??? I'd hate to drive 4hrs and find I can't watch the game.

Schneiderlin Joins Manchester United (Official)
Andy Durman replied to Bewildered's topic in The Saints
A problem with our system is that sometimes we are too defensive by using two holding midfielders. Schneiderlins departure will enable a more attacking replacement, leaving Wanyama as the holding midfielder. It's a good deal and I'm very happy when he leaves for Man United. I would prefer him to stay, but he's changed and it's time for him to move on. I wish him well. He's been contractually a great servant. -
