Football has been quite good. And less cynical play this time (so far). But the vuvuzela white noise is a major annoyance. And the commentary of John Helm is very irritating, with non-stop blather full of hypothetical comments, endless repetitions, irrelevant statistics, and constant stating of the obvious.

So much for the USA doing something this WC

Why so negative? They topped their group. They held England to a draw. They came back from a two-goal deficit to earn a draw against Slovenia. And they took Ghana to overtime in a last-sixteen game. Not bad. And as far as their temperament was concerned, they played fair and showed a never-say-die attitude. I didn't want to see them progress at Ghana's expense, but you have to admit they've done well. -

If you really mean that, you are very wrong. -
In addition to all the vinyl LPs on Parlophone and Apple, I have two or three dozen Beatles and solo-Beatles vinyl singles (45 rpm), with original picture sleeves, on Apple. Some of them must be worth a few bob. I also have the entire audition the Beatles did for Decca Records on January 1st, 1962 on a set of singles. There are twelve songs on 6 vinyl 45 rpm singles - different colours too! (green, red purple, yellow, etc.). Must be bootleg releases. I wonder what they're worth now? BTW, the chief A&R man for Decca at the time, **** Rowe, turned The Beatles down after their audition with the classic comment: "Groups of guitars are on the way out". How wrong could he be, given what would emerge in the next few years. I don't think I would sell any items from my extensive Bealtes collection (vinyl, CDs, DVDs, magazines and books). I'm a collector, not a seller! P.S. I wasn't intending to use a swear-word there, but the short form of Richard, is shown as ****. Not every Richard is a ****!

Love is Strange by Jackson Browne and David Lindley - a recently-released 2 CD album recorded live in March 2006, during a tour of Spain. The band includes half-a-dozen of Browne's Spanish musician-friends. Lindley is featured on a few of his own songs on the first disc, but it's pretty much all Jackson Browne material, featuring fresh arrangements and interpretations. A good bet for those who like these guys!

Oh, yes. She sang in Stevie Wonder's backing band Wonderlove in the '70s. Stevie produced Perfect Angel. Riperton was celebrated for her five-octave vocal range - she could hit notes that only dogs could hear!

You ask whether Britain would be better off if we'd sided with Hitler. [Obviously not, BTW - if you know anything about the nazi regime.] And then you title your thread "The Christian Attitude of the British". Explain to me how Christians could support Hitler. Perhaps you should read some history; and then read some theology.

Where's Ron Davies? Surely he deserves to be there more than Alan Shearer?

Ahora Si! by Cachao, the great Cuban mambo musician - bassist and composer.

But she's only 13 years old! If she succeeds, the glory is all hers. if she fails, the cost and effort of rescue is all ours. If individuals - especially immature or inexperienced individuals - want to engage in dangerous adventures, that's their choice, but they (or their families) ought to have an insurance policy that will cover any rescue costs.

They did go silent when Mexico scored (but only for about 34 seconds ). I prefer the sound of the crowd singing, or the sound of silence.

Correct. One of four squad members who played for England during the '66 World Cup tournament, but didn't play in the Final.

Which game did Terry Paine play in during the '66 World Cup?

Different Ownership and Managment, same old summer
Hamilton Saint replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Or: Different Ownership and Management (doing a great job turning the fortunes of the Club around and building a fine team) - but same old summer, regardless, of premature and presumptuous moaning. Alpine, some questions for you: 1) Are you confident that the Club is in good hands? 2) Do you think that they're working behind the scenes to bring in new players? 3) Do you think that they should be working on their timetable, or yours? 4) Is patience a virtue? Different Ownership and Managment, same old summer
Hamilton Saint replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. I was very impressed with the group of players that Pardew brought into the club last season. So I am confident that Pardew and his team are working hard behind the scenes finding new players for the upcoming campaign. Strange as it may seem to some, they are operating on their own timetable. It always amazes me when fans adopt the solipsistic attitude that if the Club is not satisfying their impatient demands, then everything is ****ed. Relax. Take time off. Enjoy the World Cup. Get outside. Go on holiday. There'll be lots of time to moan later - if moaning is your thing. -
