Hmmm - This problem isn't just a Saints one though. Steve McClaren adopted a defend deep strategy which IMHO cost England in two cup competitions.

The problem is that we won't gel over night - and that will cause some more moaning on here (not a dig Alps). I'd like to think that at the first opportunity Pardew will get the squad away for some type of team building event. As to the injuries - Murty's doesn't sound as if he'll be back anytime soon. My front two would be Lambert and Lallana (playing slightly deeper). Both would be looking for each other and Lallana can be tricky where as Lambert seems to have a nice touch and knows where the goal is.

Any managers main aim has to be not conceeding goals - our new back four should go a long way to acheiving that aim. The only concern (for me anyway) is the lack of a creative MF but I'm sure AP will get in more players to fill those gaps. Onwards & Upwards.

Agree with most of what you say especially, the bit about knowing more than Pardew. I think there are too many people on here that think real life is just the same as playing a football manager game.
