Butland is still the preferred target, but has his club priced him out of that? I think so Paul Robinson was an option, but we seem to want a young keeper.. and that is problem as we all know keepers mature a lot later than outfield players. I was extremely disappointed we didn't grab Brad Guzan when we had the chance a few weeks back. Considering our preference for young 'uns we could end up with Kasper Schmicheal if we are prepared to offer him first team football, or we could get this Gazza if he prepared to play second fiddle to KD initially. He does have a good rep as a complete box keeper.. something we haven't had for sometime with all due respect to Kelvin. BUT IN TRUTH.. it has gone very quiet on our goalkeeping front. My choice if I were Nigel would be to bite the bullet and go all out for Rui Patrício (Sporting).. and we have looked at him.. Yes, it would cost around £7-8m, but if you consider we are thinking of paying so much for Butland, it would be value for money. Europe's best by far, and one whose ambition is to play in the EPL.

I TRIED...no one seems to know about this..nor on the usual twitter sites No news from other goalkeeping coaches I know.. Except a little titter about 10 days ago about us watching his progress a little closer than normal. As you know nothing gets past us goalkeepers easily:lol:

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED

That is not true, at NO TIME did Malcolm, or George Burley, see Bart as a reliable figure to be able replace Davis with him... Forecast was seen as a future replacement for Bart by some, and as someone else has said when Malcolm saw him in a few sessions he realised that he had been "given a duff one". The parting of the waves for Malcolm was after a scouting report on Matt Gilkes was totally ignored, and the way that Richard Wright was treated.

yes, it is possible to laugh nervously:rolleyes:

So there we have it Jack Butland laughs at the idea of coming to Southampton. Well it's not as funny as someone willing to risk over £2m for a rookie keeper whose only claim to fame was getting into the first team at Cheltenham, and being selected by England to go to the Euro's as the tea boy. As soon as Birminghams valuation got in to the realms of fantasy, we should have walked away...

There's a post on Ugly Inside that we've bid £3m for K Schmeichal

as a survivor of 2 heart attacks I'd like to remind you there is life afterwards.. It was 12 years ago I had my first one, and like Whitey and many many others that had had heart attacks, I was completely unaware I'd had one. Just a dull aching pain in the jaw, and a slight pain in the neck.. But it was the cold sweaty clammy thing I felt that worried me enough to DRIVE to my local doctor. Within minutes I was flat on my back and had a neddle stuck into the back of my hand and an ambulance was called... I couldn't understand why the doctor was taking it so serious. Two stints in blocked arteries and 5 days later I was back home on about 8 tablets a day. Five years later and complacent I decided to dive into the swimming pool, the shock bought on another heart attack which I thought was indigestion. 2 stints and 5 days later I was back home again. Lesson learnt, don't get complacent take your medication, reasonable diet at reasonable times, pack in smoking and you'll live to be 100. Of course if you didn't support the Saints that would be 120.. GET WELL SOON WHITEY

Buttner virtually put in a transfer request and his club allowed him to speak to English clubs. However the club he choses must strike a deal with them before they grant his transfer. The most important part from that Dutch article is this... Southampton offers Vitesse too little for Büttner

It will only take one bad game in the Olympics to destroy Birminghams valuation of the young lad. So, it's now or never. We have other options, Birmingham hasn't!!
