That is what makes a mockery of our right back recruitment though - we signed 2 full backs yet prefer to play a centre half out of position. Why sign Martina...oh yeah he was cheap but surely even in L1 there are better options. Waste of wages signing Martina then not playing him. With 3 non creative midfielders we needed full backs to give us width - Targett apart from 1 occasion last night never goes past his man and delivers too deep and so did Yosh that gives defenders ages to see the cross. Strange recruitment - I like Romeu, Stek and Caulker makes sense - Clasie needs a bit of time and can't judge so far although some melts on here written off already but Martina not being picked can't see that at all.

So we sold Shaw £30m, Chambers 16m, Lallana 24m, Lovren 20m so us spending 4m over the top in your opinion is a drop in the ocean for a player who is a great squad player who offers options.

So Gray going from Brentford at 9m its good value for Long - why do fans get so het up over how much it costs it isn't your money! He got us our only point so far this season! Leicester last season won us the game, Villa was terrific....plus a number of other games he made good contributions to.

I am quite excited by this signing its exactly what we need. I remember him playing at Chelsea and was impressed - height, defensive can fill in at centre back. Has had a few injuries but you don't play for Barca, Chelsea, Valencia and Stuttgart if you are sh1te. A midfield of Vic, Romeu and Clasie would give us a great platform. Bertrand and Cedric giving us width and with our options of the 5 forwards we look very good on paper.

Stoke who finished just below us whipped Liverpool 6-1 yet lost 0-1 this year......means diddly squat. We lost some silly games last year like Burnley away yet won at Man Utd etc if we reverse the silly losses we will be fine.
