As I recall, McMenemy was annoyed about not going up as champs well into the next season, so I doubt that result came from the management. The players however could well be a different story. There was an episode of Channon and Ball where Mick talked about a Coventry game late in the season. Saints were mid table and Coventry needed points to stay up. Channon said that half the Saints team were playing (For cash) for Coventry that day. I was disappointed to hear it then, and still saddened to recall it today.

Obviously these are not the best players we've ever had, but I don't remember any of our teams from the past playing as a cohesive unit so consistently for any length of time until now. It will be interesting to see how their potential develops as new, higher quality players are brought in and blend with the existing squad if we get promotion.

The money saved our skins, that's a fact. To deny any other factor in what happening today is nonsense though. I always believed we could go up. I tempered that belief with the fact that I know naff all about football. Having said that, I think our form at the moment is genuine, and see no real reason for any prolonged decline in our results.

Paying a fiver or not, although the problem was long standing, it was always being addressed if not always very successfully. I appreciate the efforts, and even more so now that it is running really well. This site is now among the fastest and most reliable of all the sites I use.

I feel kinda bad for Cov. In times past we were both the long time hangers on in the top flight. We were both the teams that defied the odds and stayed in the mix, no matter what. I regard them as a sort of sister club in terms of spirit and determination.

I think that by playing Guly in his own preferred position we have found a new resource. Saints have been more exciting since he has been pushed more up front
