Davis and Cork when he returns, for me. I don't rate Morgan anywhere near as much as many on here, I think he's too casual and gives the ball away far too much for a player in his position. Cork is a better all round player IMO. JWP, I hope he gets nurtured rathered than thrown into the deep end of a starting role every week in what's likely to be a low ranked Premier league team getting beaten more often than winning.

Just 2 or 3 days ago we were linked with Ajax left back, Boilesen, which would mean we're likely still making enquiries for a left back. Reports from last night's match at Stevenage suggest Shaw isn't ready for first team football yet, which to be fair it would be a massive risk to rely on a recently turned 17 year old to step into the Premier League right now.

For me its both. We have no depth to speak of, and two defenders who IMO are not good enough together for a mid-lower table Premier League side.

He's 25 years old, the chances of him developing his game to any significant degree at this stage of his career are slim. He's an archetypcal run around merchant, plenty of pace and potential but extremely lacking in end product. He didn't make it anywhere near the first team with us in the Championship so there's very little benefit in keeping him here.

We'd have been too busy wrapping up 4 signings on Thursday night to have played a meaningless cup game. Good decision.

It would be incredibly unfair to expect a 17 year old to get thrown straight into a defensive role in the Premier League. He needs to be nurtured over the next 2 or 3 years until he's ready for the first team. I feel we'll also take that approach a lot more with JWP once Cork is back.
