Great, what am I meant to do with this massive lob on?
-
I'm just enjoying every game as it comes at the moment, I don't think a loss would dampen our spirits at the moment, but the way we're playing we get the feeling we can beat anyone on our day. As people have said, Barnsley away will be an interesting test, but how satisfying would it be to see our name on the top of the table for a week or so... Will we start Fox? We should do, but with Harding and Dickson in tow, it's a selection dilemma I wouldn't want. It'll be interesting to see how Adkins handles the multitude of talent he has at his disposal. As for this game, I think we'll beat Barnsley in a fairly tight 2-0 win. (But a draw would be no disgrace.)

Is it my ageing mind or did David Hughes score an overhead kick for us?

My chinchilla has the squits. Yorkshiremen scare me. Saturday's the day I turn into a werewolf. I can't miss Tonight's the Night with the ravishing John Battyman. All valid excuses imo.

Carling Cup 2nd Round - Bristol City / Swindon Away

****ing extra time. Come on Wednesday. Holloway's a cockle. -
I voted wrong on the poll. I wish to change my selection from Maynard to Ebanks-Blake please. As payer of Five English Pounds I feel that my request should be adhered to.

I still think he has the potential to be our best central midfielder. Better than Cork even. Tying him down to a long term contract will stop vultures seeing him as a cheap signing. Granted that Hammond, Cork and Chappers are in better form at this moment in time, but we must remember he was out quite a long time at the tail end of last season. Give him the time and the experience to develop, and he could be here for years to come.

I'll be working as per.

Either would be an excellent acquisition but I think we should hold out for Owen... (Rodriguez would be a good signing too.)

Potentially the best signing of the summer if this is true. What a good news day this is for Saints. (Potentially.)

I've got the Best Air Guitar Anthems on the hifi, I've just switched the 'Puter on to find out about the Fox signing, and the most positive potential signing thread I've read all summer. Natch, I'm jumping around the room air guitaring. Get in there Saints, let's **** up the rest of the nPC and go ONE BETTER than effing Norwich...

Fish's replacement or Dickson's replacement? Seems weird to strengthen the strongest position we have at the club, but hey ho, I haven't seen Fox play, so if he's an improvement on either of the other 3 then that's a good thing. Still need a CB in, and perhaps a striker and/or winger, and we're pretty much there.

Would be a cracking signing on a free. He's always been a goalscorer, I'm suprised Blackburn let him go. He just needs a settled place to call home. After Jeffrey Schlupp scored a hattrick for them last night, they may have the answer in attack already within their ranks. He was the guy that was on loan to Brentford last season and did so well.

If Joey Barton can get back in the first team at Newcastle (after the stories coming out of their camp, I never thought I'd see him in a Geordie shirt again), then it would come as no surprise to me if Adkins and Puncheon drew a line through things and he started back in the first team. There's probably a 0.5% chance of that happening, but if it does, I won't be applauding his hattricks. I think he'll be a deadline day signing for someone.

My predictions are usually wrong tbf! (As he tips Torquay for the win...)

This. I've been predicting vigilantism for years. As much faith as I have in the Police, there just aren't enough of them and more and more young people are running feral. Communties, business people and the law abiding will soon take matters into their own hands to sort this mindless violence out. Fights will occur, more people will die. It sounds far fetched but it is seemingly very possible. The scenes of the last 3 nights could run and run. 16,000 officers on the streets tonight is all well and good, but: a) it's too little too late and b) it won't be 16,000 every night. This country is really looking like the pits, and these young people are our future. I'm worried.

Destroying Fratton Park would be doing them a favour.

My heart thinks we're good enough to get promoted, my head thinks we'll be thankful for a play-off push. The best time to review our chances would be on the first of September. Only then will we know our complete squad and indeed how we've fared over the first few games.

Our Saviour. If only we'd had a few more years... RIP

I always like playing Torquay because they're my Dad's team. I don't think we'll change the team too much though, the back four may even be kept together, although Butterfield, Seaborne and Dickson would surely be knocking on the door. SOmething like: Bart, Richardson, Fonte, Martin, Harding, De Ridder, Morgan, Deano, Lallana, Lambert, Barnard/Forte. Whoever we choose I reckon we will win this, it would be interesting to see some squad faces though.

Tomorrow's West Ham/Aldershot match has been postponed. There's a joke in there somewhere...

I'd have chucked Puncheon into any deal involving Oxo tbf. I never want to see him in a Saints shirt again, even if his gets on his knees and apologises for thinking he's better than us. Sell him, get a better, more contented replacement in. I must admit I thought Chaplow had a pretty good cameo on the right when he came on against Leeds, so that's another option, but I would expect to see Oxo and Punch out and one more winger brought in, as well as that elusive CB and Striker spots.
-
1) Sad to see him go. He's a good player who did very well in his first season for us last season, especially with Puncheon throwing a paddy. 2) If the figure of £12 million with £3 million in add ons is correct (surely with a sell on fee), then that is a fantastic deal, and with the club not needing the money to pay bills, surely the majority of that will be re-invested into the playing squad. 3) As bitter as I am at his sale, I do hope he succeeds at Arsenal. And hey, if not, perhaps he'll re-sign when we reach the Premiership in the near future. 4) It's thanks to Markus Liebherr that this was possible - just two and a bit years ago, a player like Oxo would have been on his way for a lot less than the figure quoted. 5) There's no need to riot over this on the streets of Southampton... 6) I'm glad this whole saga has been laid to rest before the August transfer window has shut. (Although I would rather have seen it settled earlier in the summer.) 7) We still have Lallana, Fonte and Lambert, all of whom are more key to us at present. 8 ) Spend spend spend!
-
Gutted to lose Oxo, if our aim is to be in the Premier League in two years or so, not only would he have got us there, he'd have lit it up for us too. That said we will be very quids in with this move, big money that's needed nowhere else but in the playing squad. While I don't envisage too many signings this month, January could be well interesting...
