The politicians aren't going to be any help. Anything to avoid showing that the £12bn spent on the Olympics was nothing short of a vanity project. That is why they are happy to see the Olympic Stadium being occupied, even if it means government (ie us) pays for it. It's actually an f'ing disgrace and the PL shouldn't allow such an unfair advantage to a club over it's rivals. But they've got it, so good luck to them.
-
Serious question, not being a film buff in the slightest, but were any black actors/actresses "unfairly" overlooked? It's one thing not having any black actors if they deserve to be there, but another if they haven't cut the mustard.
-
Of course, looking at last season and the 20 goals a season players, there was.... Aguero transfer was something like £35m and his value has gone up - 26 PL goals Kane no transfer fee to speak of, but people speaking of £45m - 21 PL goals Costa signed for £32.5m - 20 PL goals then after that it was Austin with his 18 goals (signed for £4m). Seems WHU have been jilted. Would ****ing love it if we could sign Byram under their noses.
-
****ing hope so. I can't quite decide whether I like WHU or not, but when this plum of a co-chairman (or both of them to be honest) come out and spout utter ****e to detract attention away from themselves, well...... I see he is on SSN saying a 20 goal a season striker maybe coming in within the next 7 days on loan with an option to buy. Wonder whether it will work out cheaper than Charlie boy?
-
They really do have some prize plums calling in, even worse than 606. Always love hearing all those cockney Liverpool/ManU supporters.

Spot on Hypo. Unless you can get a good deal like Austin (and he is presumably a good deal because it steals a march on our opponents, and £4m is these days not very much and but 2 or 3 times a loan fee for half a season) which are as rare as rocking horse poop, it is a time for desperate signings. And one might look at it as Austin not being good value, seeing as he would be free at the end of season For the record I don't think that, and he is only a wee bit more than we sold Cork for at the same stage, although I realise they were different situations (strikers premium, Championship players, etc etc). Tell me though, apart from Austin, who would you consider to be a good valued signing in the January window?
-
Now we have Austin, I'm pretty happy with the squad. I do feel that we lack a bit of creativity and goals in midfield, but January isn't the time to sort it. I see teams below us spending big (relatively) on players that really might fluff it. Newcastle is going about things differently and spending big on known quantities. £12m already, and maybe £30m+ on Townsend and Berahino.

You might be right that there is an under lying problem, but the fact is that he has played a lot more games than he has missed. In fact over the past 5 seasons, nothing is out of the ordinary, as I guess one expects a player to be injured from time to time. Taking the 11/12 > 14/15 season and comparing to Lallana, they both played in 159 games.

When are the papers going to bring up the LVG/RK spat??
-
I'm more interested in who has made up the rumour and why. Presume that the likely candidate is the agent.

This really is the biggest load of ballcocks I have read on here for a long time. Hitting a nerve?? WTF are you on about? They are football players, playing for a team that I go and watch. One left to be replaced by another and it is somewhat subjective as to who is better. Why would that hit a nerve? And as for a hostile response - really? All I said was that it was a matter of opinion, and that TA wasn't miles ahead of VVD, and given your opinion about the Watford line up, that your opinion in my opinion was a poor opinion that could be ignored. As someone who actually goes to the games rather than writes nonsense 2 minutes before KO about watching paint dry (sure, you might have done this from the stands but I suspect not) I have seen VVD play quite a lot this season. I have missed the one game at SMS (Everton) and in my opinion VVD is not miles behind TA. He is better in attack for one thing. He has the same calmness about him that TA has. Some think that TA reads the game better, that might be so. But look at the last 3 home wins for example and how many mistakes he has made and how many aerial duals he won, how many times he stopped attackers getting past etc etc, and I'll stick to my opinion. Plus physically, at 6ft4, VVD is a hell of a lot more imposing. You are of course entitled to your wrong opinions, but they are still wrong.

Would be delighted if he scores 12 goals in the 16 games remaining, but can't see it. Obviously QPR will be thinking he is fairly fit and match ready.

I wonder whether Shlong wants this move. Yes, it would be good to go to a big club. But what about his career? Chances are that he would be a stop gap temporary signing and would be discarded at the end of the season. I tend to think that he is somewhat more pragmatic than many players, and might see the situation for what it is. One thing that isn't taken into account, and was pertinent with Austin's move here, is family. Shlong's Mrs wasn't happy at Hull and wanted to move south as her family IIRC is from Reading. Sure the money would be better at Liverpool, but he isn't exactly badly paid now. Would he want to unsettle his family life? Maybe his Mrs could be happy living up there, maybe not. But isn't it funny, how so many said that Shlong was rubbish, too expensive etc etc and then one of the biggest clubs goes and puts a bid in for him.
-
talk****e saying we have turned down an £8m bid. Danny Murphy though doubted it as it isn't improving what they have already. EDIT - see a few posts up the Mirror link.
-
Maybe he meant dreaming rather than thinking. He might well be an automatic starter given the past 2 games. Maybe he has found the more advanced role/position suits him more and the future is interesting. He comes across as a nice lad, but one that possibly knew he was going to be a football player and thus didn't pay a lot of attention at school.

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-and-andy-carroll-agree-to-46m-deal-8663284.html Since joining WetSpam in January 2012, Carroll has scored 17 goals in all competitions. That's an average, given that it is just over 4 years to the day, of 4 and a bit goals per year, 1 fewer than Austin got last season for QPR. I wonder if Gold, someone who I am sincerely glad is not involved with my club, wonders whether that is a good return, let alone a bargain? As it is, why should he care? It's our £100k a week, not his, and if that is the way we want to make signings, then so be it. And then I do love Gold saying that a lot of the 18 goals were penalties. I think that he might find that it was 3. As for being injured, sure Austin has had some injuries, but many players do. But still, he plays a lot, and a lot more than Donkey Carroll. 14/15 season - played in 35 league (1 match suspension) and 1 cup game 13/14 season - 31 league, 3 play offs and 3 cup games 12/13 season - 37 league and 3 cup games 11/12 season - 41 league and 5 cup games
-
Maybe, because by the time he is out of contract, the TV deal will have changed everything regarding what lesser clubs can pay (unless Sky go bust - which would also change every thing!)
-
Well if we are going to be pedantic, then, no, those from RoI are not British even though they come from the British Isles. To be British, as I am sure you know, you have to come from Great Britain (which excludes Northern Ireland as well).
-
Would be great to see Chelsea go down, but that won't happen.
-
Lallana, is what, half way through his contract having cost £25m. I imagine that someone would happily pay £12m for his services, which given that Shelvey went for that wouldn't be too much. He isn't going to go top 4. Not sure Spurs would take him, so the only other club at a similar level and stature is across Stanley Park. Maybe WetSpam in their taxpayer funded new stadium.
