  1. And they lose regularly at such places.
  2. I was just reporting what I had read in the papers, but I expect that they know less than us.
  3. The PAYE is legally due irrespective of the VAT. They cannot choose to withhold it because they dispute the VAT.
  4. The stadium is security against a loan that he gave to the club. The club defaulted on repayments to him which invoked a clause in the loan agreement that means that he takes ownership of the club. Then follows the 'fit and proper person' test before the PL allow him to own it, if I understand it all correctly.
  5. Heart says Saints win, head says lose by a couple of goals. In cases like this I always look at each team and try to estimate the number of goals that they will get. I reckon they'll get 2 or 3 and we'll get 1 or 2, but who knows? Maybe playing in a full stadium will get to their players and they'll be full of nerves. If we can get the first couple of goals then maybe their heads will drop knowing that they not even be employed when the next round comes along.
  6. Do you know, I'd completely forgotten about him.
  7. Thanks for that.
  8. Hmmm... even if they get a big injection of cash in the next few days, may it not still be the case that they have been 'trading while insolvent'?
  9. Looking at all the figures regarding income and expenditure I cannot see how their business model was ever viable. They must have planned for continuous injections of cash for several seasons, and they would have also needed a new stadium and european football. So what suddenly changed?
  10. That's an interesting point. If they are wound up, what happens to any parachute payments? I know that if a relegated team gets promoted then the following season their second year's payments are shared amongst the other CCC clubs.
  11. Any names?
  12. The debt for the mortgae would have been the amount owing. Depending on the terms of the contract there pay have been 'penalties' for early repayment of the debt, but it's not normally like hire purchase where you are liable for all the interest, even if you settle early. Having said that, the new buyer may have come to an agreement with the mortgagers to settle for less than the debt.
  13. You see, that's the part that I have difficulty with.
  14. But who would we play?
  15. Their liabilities over that period exceed their expected income.
  16. Pompey get 45% of the gate profits which is presumably more than they would get for their share of the tickets so we only hand over the extra. By that time this may be to an administrator, or receiver.
  17. I thought that the ref picked on him a bit, there were others that he let off for worse. The yellow was a bit harsh, he won the ball but it was from behind and maybe the ref thought he needed to calm the game down. There was another incident where the MK player ran straight into Thomas who was standing stock still and yet the ref gave him a long lecture. For the incident with Lallana he was no more involved than any other player.
  18. That still gives them 2 hours to find £7.5m
  19. Indeed. The background to all this is the FA insisting on all football debts taking priority and HMRC no longer being preferential creditors. The club has received money in the last few weeks and presumably none of it has gone to HMRC so now they are playing hardball.
  20. I can't see it going beyond the court hearing.
  21. ACAS may be worth a call: http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=816
  22. Thanks. I read 'ROBED' as 'ROBBED'
  23. I think the papers said high court in London
  24. I'm no expert (on this sort of thing) but I think it can go right up to the time they meet the judge.
  25. There might still be a case for constructive dismissal if the terms and conditions of employment are unilaterally changed significantly, e.g. halved and back-dated. There may also be a case if the correct procedures are not followed. There needs to be 12 months employment, but don't forget that the notice period comes within this so if a company dismisses somebody after 11 months the 12 months rule still applies. I'm sure there is some free advice out there from the public services.
