  1. We referees have to stick together It’s amazing how many professional players don’t actually know the Laws of the Game. We were told on our referee courses that there was a specific reason the they were called Laws and not rules. Rules have a tendency to be bent or broken.
  2. But the present ‘view’ from the TV cameras is off-axis in at least two dimensions. You would need an array of cameras on both sides of the pitch, preferably down near player level. Even then you end up with different interpretations of where the arm begins and where you draw the cut-off line through the armpit. It’s a sledgehammer to crush a grape. The Law is not written to be implemented by some imprecise, remote technology. OK for instances of clear offside such as Gabbi at Wembley but trying to adjudicate over a couple of centimetres is ridiculous and unnecessary.
  3. The first? Please see my other response just above. The second was well out of his reach, at least two feet. The scorer was allowed to get right up close before lifting the ball into the far corner. Our problems lie just in front of him and are much more serious.
  4. Straight between his legs with his weight evenly spread. Not many would have stopped that.
  5. It’s come to a very sorry state when we are suspecting children of being a security threat. Just because it’s a football match shouldn’t make any difference. What next? Supermarkets, shopping malls, train stations?
  6. But VAR is for super-pedants. It’s the sort of system that’s designed to be used by traffic wardens. Your argument is that anybody doing 71 mph on a motorway should be fined. It takes all the joy out of life.
  7. It’s inappropriate for any adult to improperly touch up a child, excuse or no excuse.
  8. I’ve just watched MOTD and the was nothing that Gunn could have done about any of those goals. They were hammered past him at close range. Some of you have unrealistic expectations.
  9. Hmm... is it too late to cancel my season tickets?
  10. The Laws were written to be interpreted by a bloke with a whistle and two with flags, they were never intended to be forensically examined to the nearest millimetre. Offside was only introduced to prevent goal-hanging and to try to apply it to anything more accurate that afoot or two is ridiculous, especially in a fast moving game. They should just leave it in the hands of the independent assistant and say that if he looks offside, he’s offside. We never used to have this problem until they started filming and recording games. If we are going to micro-analyse every game then we need a wide scale revision of the Laws. The problem for me is that there should be the same Laws and application of them throughout all layers of the game, from local park kicks abouts to World Cup Finals.
  11. Set us up to draw it, do you mean
  12. “werde” oder “würde” ?
  13. We sit in the central Kingsland so the shot was across us from right to left. When he hit it my immediate thought was that it was going well wide. It was only later that I realised. How much bend was on it.
  14. The only solution is for Northern Ireland to remain in the same regulatory sphere as the Single Market and that means EU or EEA/EFTA
  15. The US sees us as turkeys ripe for plucking.
  16. You asked the wrong question. A sample of one tells you nothing. The more relevant question is “Has anybody ever missed a game because their ST hasn’t arrived in time?” And the next question is “Have they ever been sent out this late before?” Sending 10,000 items through the mail and expecting them all to arrive within a week is not very sensible. Serious question: Why leave it all so late anyway?
  17. Eleven tonight? The Premier League window closed four hours ago at 17:00 BST.
  18. No, but that's not the point, is it? I know people who have turned up at the game and found other people sitting in their seats. They had genuine tickets to the game. Once again, what possible reason is there for the delay? When it arrives late there have to be contingencies in place. Special journeys may need to be made to pick up the tickets. If you are away how can you arrange soemebody to go to your house to get the tickets for you if you don't know when they will arrive? Genuine question: Can you tell me any other business that treats its customers this wantonly? If I were spending £1300 in a store I'd expect a cup of tea and a biscuit at least. This is sh!t customer service.
  19. Who would be? He can't be blamed for that.
  20. Yeah, what's all the fuss about? Footballers are mercenaries and he scored a few goals for us. As mentioned above, thanks for the goal at Old Trafford and the winner against Arsenal. Time for everybody to move on.
  21. Call me an old cynic but I don't trust anybody in UK sales these days. I don't trust the post either. How do you know that you are going to receive it before the first home game? What about those who don't live near the ground and may be coming to the game from somewhere that's hundreds of miles away from their registered address? Yes, we get this bedwetting every year. For a purchase of well over a thousand pounds it's not good enough. These could have been printed last year and sent out within a few days of purchase.
  22. I had my heart attack seven years ago and it certainly makes you evaluate your life more closely. I have shelves full of books that I have not read, DVDs that I have not seen and CDs that I haven't listened to. All those plans that I had for long-term projects were re-evaluated and where I was always doing something for the future I realised that the future that I was planning for was here and now.
  23. I couldn't remember what I had done with them but luckily I found them this morning. The email confirmation that I received on the 8th May stated that "Season Tickets will be posted towards the end of July, to the address registered on each account." I don't understand why they need to leave it so late. I'm around for the next couple of weeks but there will be many people who may be away and not going home before going to the first home game. I'm sure they'll turn up but I don't trust anybody in Britain to do the job properly these days. It wouldn't surprise me to find that they'd sold my seat to someone else.
  24. I’ve not received mine yet so I checked my purchase history and under ‘status’ it says ‘upload’. Does this mean that I am supposed to use the same tickets as last season? I noticed that they didn’t have any season dates printed on them.
