  1. Good point. Interest repayments on our national debt this year will be £57bn which is half the NHS budget of £114bn. If the debt interest is reduced there would be more to spend on health.
  2. The NHS is just over one year older than me and during its existence there have been governments of all shapes and colours. It will still be going after I've gone. Don't be such a melodramatic wussy.
  3. Every politician spends other people's money.
  4. The referendum was about independence. This vote was about who they wanted to represent them in Westminster.
  5. I'm sure I wouldn't. As a man I spend most of my time playing pocket billiards sow why should I be different as a woman?
  6. We could do without that. More years of uncertainty.
  7. American English is a different and separate language and we are all the richer for it. I think we can all understand each other.
  8. I can't disagree with any of this.
  9. 'Vox populi, vox deo' I always say
  10. Time zones in The States can get very complicated, especially in Arizona. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_in_the_United_States Arizona and Hawaii use standard time throughout the year. However: The Navajo Nation observes DST throughout its entire territory, including the portion that lies in Arizona. But the Hopi Nation, which is entirely surrounded by the Navajo Nation and is entirely in Arizona, does not observe DST. (See map inset right.)
  11. She's still young. She'll learn as she grows up.
  12. Yes indeed, time to walk the walk (even though I hate clichés).
  13. The NHS will be fine. At least now there's a chance of raising extra money for it.
  14. I'm a wait and see sort of person. Well, ladies and gentlemen, it has been a great pleasure debating with you all over the last few interminable weeks and you have made the long wait all the more interesting. Whatever the result I'm sure we shall all be back soon enough putting the country to rights. A very good evening to you all And so to bed...
  15. You can use whatever sounds the more natural. None may originally have been an abbreviation of no-one but it is a separate word in its own right.
  16. Either is ok. With words such a 'Manchester United' or 'the government' then either the plural or the singular is used. Common usage is what counts here, I prefer using what sounds right. 'Manchester United is the biggest club in the world.' 'Manchester United are about to sign...' Etcetera.
  17. Good point. Ed is the best weapon the Conservatives have.
  18. No, they're not, but they have the best view of anybody, are a lot closer and have a stereoscopic view. There are a lot of other clues as to what goes on, things that the players have said, where their eyes are looking, that sort of thing. That link doesn't work on my iPad, I'll have a look tomorrow, thanks.
  19. I find it very depressing that anybody she had think that TV gives you a better view of the game than being out in the middle of the pitch a few yards away from the action with a full view of every little action that a player might take and with a history of the way that they have behaved previously in the game. I really can't see the problem with the present system and r the need to change anything. The thing that does need changing is the education and attitude of the media.
  20. Not me, I've seen too many of 'em. I might even go to bed early. That way you get the result quicker because it's there as soon as you open your eyes.
  21. The trigger was in the U.S. Financial markets but other economies were built on weak foundations. I think you'll find that we have been consistent over Labour's role in it. They overspent and left us exposed to external factors.
  22. Funny place to have a nipple.
  23. I think Batter's reply was lost in the great corrupt database scandal. He found his special tool so panic over.
  24. Yep. The whole concept of bonuses is disgusting and disgraceful.
