  1. There were two occasions where Isgrove cut back on his right foot and had a chance to put in a cross but chose not to, and both times the move came to nothing.
  2. Quite true, but what annoys me is that the papers are full of the Chelsea/Fàbregas incident but hardly a mention of last night's two.
  3. That's true. In the lower leagues (very low) I used to ask the captain whether they preferred to keep the game going or would rather have a free kick. As a top-flight referee once said to us, sometimes a free kick is the only thing they'd win all game.
  4. I've just watched MOTD. how on earth was that first challenge on Long not a penalty?
  5. One good reason for a ground expansion. Stick 'em up in the gods where they can't have much influence.
  6. They are allowed a few seconds to see what develops before bring play back.
  7. Too true. Interesting that Chelsea must have given permission for Bertrand to get cup-tied.
  8. It was a strange atmosphere, different from a league game and more subdued. I put this down to the fact that most of the fans were not the usual ones. There were also a lot of children there.
  9. Started inside, finished outside. The ref was going to give nothing until the assistant flagged so the result was a compromise decision to give a foul outside the box. The assistant didn't signal for a penalty so who knows how they came to their decision.
  10. Should have had a penalty or two. I was in my usual seat but the annoying know-all on my left had it in for Long from the start. I had to remind him that Long was only doing what he was supposed to do.

Not as serious, but injuries do occur: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulo_Diogo
  12. Not good. Let's hope all turns out well for her.
  13. Correct, 15,000 minimum. I would imagine they would have to extend pretty quickly or play at a bigger stadium. Can you think of one?

There have been several serious injuries. This was one of the more serious: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2799893/indian-mirozam-premier-league-footballer-dies-spinal-injuries-somersault-goal-celebration.html
  15. I repeat: it wasn't a mistake, it was deliberate
  16. If you want a style guide I could always write one for you? For the record, I deliberately chose to write without a capital, so it wasn't a mistake in the usual sense, but whichever, no one really cares, do they? (I don't believe I did accuse people who use a capital E as 'slavish followers', I was merely speaking in general terms. Well, not exactly speaking, writing more like) (Also, whilst we're at it, I prefer to use single quotes (') when referring to written text rather that double quotation marks ("), but that's my style )
  17. 'Cause everybody like to watch Liverpool, don't they? I only watch it to see them lose

One of the papers said that it was because all his teammates had piled on top of him.
  19. Monday night before AFC Wimbledon vs Liverpool on BBC1.
  20. I seem to remover him getting one in an early European game. Maybe a header.
  21. Right or wrong when discussing grammar is not a matter of law, more style. Some people are trend setters, others slavish followers. The only criterion is that the intention be clear. IMHO, of course. I've been reading Oliver Kamm in The Times. He writes a column on Saturdays called 'The Pedant' which has led me to reconsider my views on grammar.
  22. Purely a matter of literary style, some have it, some don't.
  23. I don't capitalise the noun when referring to the language as a subject. You?
  24. Yes indeed. What would you suggest, a trilby perhaps?
  25. Good job you weren't marking english, eh?
