I'm not condoning anything. Whatever their circumstances or ethnic background, rapists are rapists and should face the maximum possible sentence for their crimes. Of course I have sympathy for the victims, and I despise the fact that their ordeals are being used as some sort of political weapon by the far-right. Your suggestion that the authorities might have turned a blind eye to it to appease the Muslim community may be valid, but this isn't exclusive to Asians either. What about the 'losing' of the evidence about paedophiles in Westminster? What about the institutional abuse carried out in the church for decades (centuries, perhaps?) with seeming impunity? What about the free reign that Jimmy Saville had, which was clearly well known but unchallenged at the time?
