This is the crux. Macca's flaws can be coached out of his performances. Bazunu's can't.

I thought he looked decent in the couple of games he played in August, but I've not seen anything of him playing in a CB pair rather than a 3. We all wanted to see the back of that back 3 formation, and since we reverted to to a 4 we've looked even worse. But I think that's down to the form/quality of the 2 CBs. No idea what's going on with THB because he's way off the required standard right now, and Stephens is and always has been a liability. Could we do any worse than start Wood and Quarshie at the back against Boro on Saturday? It's got to be worth a try.

Maybe that's another issue though. If the recent rumours about him having a long-term illness is correct then starting him on Saturday after putting in such a shift last night may not be feasible.

Well, the main takeaway from tonight for me is that, despite the result, that's the first time I've actually enjoyed watching Saints so far this season.
