When Coventry signed Ward he cost quite a bit of money and is one of their highest earners so I suspect we looked at him and the cost but obviously have gone with other options now we've signed Fonte & Seabourne.

We need back up for Lambert so Pericard fits the bill for that reason.

Theirs not to many we can rest but I woudn' rest any, Their is a good four days between now and the cup match with a free week until league match afterwards. No need to rest players unless they are carrying any injuries.

Its obvious that Pards doesn't rate Holmes so that is a priority and Thomson certainly is not good enough cover and McClaggon needs games so can stay on loan.

We are well short in quality in terms of squad depth. Depending in what happens to the loan players we need a minimum of four players aswell as trying to keep or change the existing loanees. Relying on young Mills as cover for Lallana isn't going to work, no real cover for Lambert or at centre half or right wing if we don't keep Antonio. It would upset the balance if we don't strengthen in most positions.

If we don't keep Antonio we will need to get another right winger aswell as a left winger to give cover to Lallana.

Colchester have only dropped four points all season at home, this result along with the Leeds game proves what Pardew has been saying for the last three months that we lack the depth of quality that Leeds, Norwich & co have and until we're able to clean sheets on a regular basis we will lose games now & then. I do think we have a problem in how we start matches, we seem to take along time to get going and thats dangerous away from home whereas you can get away with it at home. We need to go at teams more from the very start. Hopefully we can look forward to positive 2010, onwards & upwards.
