Just had a thought after reading that the 'forces to be cut' thread. Now, I'm sure many of us have have all heard the timeless classic "they should bring back national service!" uttered by many people over the years, whether it was with reference to an ever-growing population of feral youth or just a simple concern of national defence. As we all know, that would be a practical impossibility (surely!?) but as TDD mentions - in this rather unstable and volatile world, if national service was possible to 'implement' again, would it actually be possible? How long would it take to implement? What laws of the land would we have to forego to make it a possibility? Wouldn't it give a fantastic grounding for people who possibly lack in discipline? What impact would it have on the UK as a whole? Could it be financed? Really? And what would our military strength be if it was pushed through? There is far more political-savvy people on here than me so I just wondered what the opinion of this would be?

Really not surprised he played well - like a few on here, I've been championing his cause for a while (ooooh, get me.) But seriously, if he can stay fit he would a huge new dimension and bit of quality that we lack.

Islamic march through Wootton Bassett Cancelled
Crab Lungs replied to sotonjoe's topic in The Lounge
I wouldn't need to because he wouldn't say it to him in person. And likewise you... and don't know what it is with you trolling weirdos, completely unable to make rational or sensible arguments - instead controlling your vitriol on winding people up. Over the internet. I very much doubt you have the same character traits in 'real' life. -

It's faily evident... the blokes a w4nk.er... I bet he wouldn't do it to you in person. -
Absolute brilliance. Thanks Portsmouth, you truly are hilarious

Likewise on the Holmes situation :-)

Come on Stocky... come on.....

Every day I pop back to peruse this thread and every day I find something else to give me a chuckle over. Greatest comedy ever.

Not really surprised, Southampton has the third worst crime rate in the UK. It's still my home, but it is a ****ing horrible place is reality.

Will always remember Brian Howard playing for my Tyro team. No-one could get the blal off him and his control, touch, vision, body strength, skill was all way above our own, even at 15.

lmfao, it gets better and better and better.

Gah, I know, I know. Never done my ACL but I've had problems with my heels, bones in my right foot.. I think the most frustrating time though was doing my calf, 5 weeks out, comeback game - do my other calf, 3 weeks out, comeback game 2 do the first calf again, 3 weeks out. I was sure I stretched and prepared for games correctly, but someone told me that because I had injured one the other took on alot of the strain/pressure? That said, I'm no physio... Want to get fit for 2010-2011 though..

Cover for Lambo in the Jon Parkin/Darius Henderson/Steve Howard mould. That said, signing Stocky would without a doubt make a huge difference and add a new dimension to our team.
-
Might be nothing, but he's change the picture to one of him playing for Doncaster. Hmmm...
-
Lol, once a pikey, always a pikey.
-
Stocky's changed his profile picture on FB... indicative of his future, perhaps? Come on Stocky.... SIGN!

Spot on, fitness would be the massive problem. There are plenty of particularly untalented footballers knocking around that more than make up for their limited ability with raw graft and superhuman fitness.

Pompey will be asking us to lend them fans to fill their ground next...

Interesting, maybe some of the folks who have played with me in my halycon years could advise me whether I could 'survive' the Premier League or not. Personally, I am a quarter of the player I was when I was 16-21 and haven't played for nearly a year. My fitness is awful and I suspect my touch is even worse than it once was. When I was in my golden era, maybe a Wayne Bridge-esque type of player, chipping in with 1-4 goals a season (more if allowed penalties.) These days? Djimi Traore.

One from Hiddink, Twitchy or O'Neill for me, but it'll probably be Stuart Pearce.

Yes and double yes.
