Spot on with your likes of Kamara, and I overlooked Souness. - could never fathom why he never made much of manager because he does actually make a helluva lot of sense. very insightful. Must be cursed like Hoddle - great coach, tactician but a terrible man-manager....

Master Bates, I think I've just witnessed your wettest post ever. Very philosophical though.

Saints 3-0 Tranmere Rovers: Post Match Reaction
Crab Lungs replied to St Landrew's topic in The Saints
I am always of the opinion that the better a team plays, the more chance it has of winning. I don't ever buy the 'playing crap and winning is a good indication' card because I simply don't believe it. However (!) I do consider that a team can also be considered as 'playing well' by the effectiveness of their performance (not just the aesthetics of it.) To 'play well' doesn't necessitate a team to one-touch their way through a game. To 'play well' for me is how 'effective' we are as a team. Are we in control? Can we raise it a few notches if we have to? Despite not playing pretty, are we still creating chances? are we taking them? Do we look threatened? Is the workrate there? For me, a team 'not play well' is a team not creating chances. We might not be playing as beautifully as we were earlier this season but we are creating chances. To me, that's playing well. Afterthought: Oh, and anyone who has played football can tell you that it is possible for teams to occasionally 'dragged down' to a lesser teams' level. -
Agree with many of the above also: Robbie Earle - pointless... just pointless. Alan Smith - if only for droning monotone voice. J Redknapp (yup, for knowing everything) Don Goodman - not particularly offensive, but just changes his tune on everything during a match 'Oh Bristol City have dominated' 5 minutes later 'Coventry have had complete control of this game' Andy Gray - SHUT THE **** UP Nigel Winterburn/Martin Keown - please guys, stop killing me with your collective charisma Motson - is so bad now he just makes sounds when he can't figure out the words he needs to say. Embarrassing. Alan Green - jumped up, arrogant ****. Shearer - was obvious he was going to fail as a manager. Clive Tylesley - Man Utd apologist. I do like Peter Beagrie, Lawro, Hansen, Claridge, Ian Darke, Le Tissier, (without bias), Merson (so stupid, it's funny) and I actually don't mind Phil Thompson. The ultimate 'lol-pundit/host' has to be Jeff Stelling, naturally talented....

And you're right about Reading... from 8,000 to full capacity crowds in the space of one half season.... and back down again. Mockneys...
-
Whoops, forgot Derby... would still like to smash them on the way back up. Good call on Toon, I know they used to have shocking attendances... and the way they turfed of Sir Bobby was terrible, but in a way, they got their just desserts. same experience with Bournemouth... one minute they were asking for bail outs, went down for pre-season following season and I'm called a scummer relentlessly... talk about trying to pander up to their big brother Pompey...
-
Just reading through a couple of Middlesbrough message boards and their stupidity ignited my dormant hatred of them. Alot of them already want WGS out and after reading through their ridiculous, reactionary drivel my attentions turned to the other clubs I dislike. So, for me it's: Boro - passionless, idiotic nasty group of fans. Charlton - absolutely deluded bunch with serious delusions of grandeur. Bizarre 'big club' complex, despite not being a very big club at all. Pompey - I don't think I need to list why... Bournemouth - I repeat - they are not our 'cute little brother' with give pocket money to; they are a nasty, ungrateful little chav half-brother who comes begging when they've figured they ain't got a pot to **** in. Liverpool - Rafa Benitez, that stupid ****ing ****** tannoy announcer and Steven 'Roy of the Rovers' Gerrard. Oh, and having a minutes silence for everything. Man Utd - Darren Fletcher, Alex Ferguson. Blackburn/Bolton/Wigan - I don't know, but I never feel inclined to watch a game involving any of those three. Maybe its the fact their stadiums are seldom full. Ipswich - Roy Keane. Plymouth - fans with delusions of grandeur MK II Talking of which... MK Dons... I wouldn't dislike them, but I cannot stand Paul Ince. Same goes for Darlington... can't stand Steve Staunton. Conversely, got a bit of a soft spot for Blackpool (Holloway - good manager, love the tangerine kits and also a team punching above its weight), Stoke (Beatts 'n' all, fun to watch), Forest (Billy Davies, good manager + a few ex-Saints like Stoke), Newcastle ( I like them again now Shearer's gone - great memories of weekenders there)... So... which teams (other than Soton) do you look out for? And why? (both good and bad reasons)
-
Yeah... thats what I remember of him. He looked a fantastic prospect than that injury completely buggered him up. He was much, much younger back then but seldom looked over-awed. I really hope he can get back to his best.

I'm just delighted to hear that Bart's overcome his troubles and showing his potential, or ability again. Well done Bart :-)

An effective means of protest in the heart of Southampton ...
Crab Lungs replied to sotonjoe's topic in The Lounge
absolutely crap, compared to these guys: http://improveverywhere.com/ -
I would just like to pop by and say: skate caants. That is all.

Steve, gave up playing FM about a month or so ago because of the memory leaks - the only thing I can suggest is that you find a 'memory washer' and keep an eye on the virtual memory - it'll get you through a bit longer until it crashes. Likewise, save game 'every day' Shocking that this has happened, fingers crossed for a patch that works soon... Southampton/Portsmouth,city of culture joint bid!
Crab Lungs replied to saint lard's topic in The Lounge
Neither city are worthy IMO, but if I had to pick a city which is best for 'things to do', it'd be Portsmouth - who are currently about 15 years ahead of our sluggish council. -
Didn't Corp once tell us Portsmouth had sold 80,000 replica shirts in one season? LMAO
-
Well, I have to say it was nice to read a balanced post from a Skate (we've been so used to the comical Ali's who come on here with their 'problem? what problem!?' attitude.) Can't say I want Portsmouth to go out of business, though I do want them to experience what we've just experienced after some of the not-so good natured comments that were levelled our way since the financial troubles. That and Peter Storrie - horrible, lying little man. Besides, I can't wait to play them again - gotta love derby games! Maybe we could start a 'B' side for when they rock up in the Blue Square South? ;-)
-
Oh my God, I was exactly the same... rarely understood the hatred and was never really that bothered about them - until last season... whilst they were laughing at our rather sad demise, little did we know they foundations were being laid (or is it stripped away?) for an even more comical fall from grace. And I still find it genuinely funny that Saints fans, despite their club being 2 divisions below them and -10 at one point could still look east and find them amusing. And you know, it wasn't just for sport, for fun or to deflect our own troubles - they are genuinely, finger-pointingly funny. Their pandering for the Sky cameras, their small away following, the fact they cant even sell out a shed for home games, their finances, directors, managers, players, the way they were duped and mismanaged so disgustingly (whilst they were giving us the v's and saying they were living the good life)... everything. It's been a brilliant last few months... Every day, a newspaper prints something to add to the comedy And TDD... to play them again... brilliant. To play them and stuff them... AMAZING. I'm not sure if it could get any better if/when that happens!
-
Ohhhh great memories.... How I want to FEEL that again!!! Oh, how it would be great to play them again next year in the CCC... our next meeting with them can't come soon enough!
-
While there is still a chance of meeting the Skates in the FA Cup, I want us to remain in it.
-
I agree TDD.. I just hope we meet them again soon and we do turn them over. Meanwhile, this just.... numbed me.
-
Oh, how times change
-
I actually cannot believe some of the comments on here...
-
What is this bizarre marketing ploy?
-
Wouldn't say he was looking to leave 'as soon as he could' - didn't he give us 7 years good service? And of course, at the time he was a potential England international. Still a quality player, would love to see him play for Saints again. Him and Lambo upfront in the CCC next season
-
I love you're team but the day Gerrard actually stays in a position as opposed to going 'Roy of the Rovers' every single game is the day... erm, you get what I mean!
