Would prefer Southampton City Football Club

Do you think it looks good then? I'm usually in favour of change for changes sake, freshen things up etc, but it looks like somebody has snorted a load of Saints related information and then sneezed onto my screen.
-
Haha, fair play FF. I wish you hadn't backed down though as I've had a couple of beers and I really want to write some more about what a legend WGS is. Ah feck it I will do it anyways. We hadn't won at SMS until Strach arrived, his first game was that amazing match against Ipswich. Ok we didn't win that one but what a game. He saved us that season. We never played sexy football under him but bloody hell it was effective without being hoofball. Get it out to the wings and get it in the box! So many great away trips, West Ham sticks out for me when Beatts scored that late goal from an Ormerod cross. The last home game of that season vs Newcastle, unbelievably good match, and Paul bloody Telfer scored a 40 yard lob! Great times.

Agreed, how many of the players Strachan got to 8th in the league have gone on to greater things? Just Bridge? A lot of them were still here when we went down.

The stamp collecting was a silly analogy but I think you can at least see my point there, not everybody had the double whammy of helping the club AND wanting to see the bands, which I think was a factor. I don't think it was a bad plan as such, just that by that point I think most people had given in some way or another without any real communication from the club as to how it was actually helping. I know there was an article on the O/S after the first bucket collection which said thanks and we collected £8000... But despite so much effort that just seemed like such a tiny amount relative to what the club needed I think a lot of fans lost heart that anything we did would actually make a difference. Just to add, fair play to all those who got involved though, I'm in no way trying to knock their efforts.

We are miles from being 'saved' yet. The club hasn't been bought. We don't even know who is trying to buy it. I am cautiously optimistic but even if/when it goes through, too many clubs have seen their dreams torn apart by dodgy owners for me to get too excited just yet.... We can only hope :-)
-
Gave up on the o/s a while ago anyway. If I ever read another rallying cry it will be too soon.
-
But you have already stated that the music itself was a draw for you, that wasn't the case for a lot of people. Take something you're not particulary into, I dunno, at a guess stamp collecting or something. Would you have gone to a Saints Aid Stamp Collecting show for £5? Be honest.

One thingI REALLY want to find out...
Barry the Badger replied to hypochondriac's topic in The Saints
Just because they have a few quid doesn't mean they will be prepared to p*ss it away. Agree with the main point though that I hope block 1 is re-opened. -
I just dont think people could see how a few thousand pounds raised would make any sort of a difference, and there was nothing from the club as to what it would actually acheive. It was a solid idea and done for all the right reasons but probably always destined to fail.

Leyton Orient call us cheats and want us in Div 2
Barry the Badger replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
Many clubs spend money they don't have in order to chase promotion. The trouble is the only ones who get doubly punished are the ones who don't make it. The ones who spend the money they dont have and DO acheive promotion get away with it. -
You cold hearted bar steward . I did think it would have been funny for them to say she could start again and then all buzz her within 10 seconds.
-
Reading between the lines it doesn't sound like this owner will be pumping tens of millions into the team, but is prepared for a bit of investment to get us going at first? I'm more than happy with that.
-
Brilliant. Sounds fantastic. Would rather have one totally commited owner than 4 who aren't sure.
-
Cautiosly excited. If it turns out not to be a billionaire (which it probably will) will still be happy just to have a league team to support.
-
Watch him go to Newcastle and turn into a world beater. I still can't watch Bolton making full use of Kevin Davies without feeling slightly angry.
-
I think if people knew for certain that their money would cover the non playing staff wages and that it was definitely needed, more would have gone for saints aid/the legends game etc. I guess theres no way the club could guarentee that though.
-
Nick, just calm down a bit fella for your blood pressures sake . As far as I can see nobody has said the club has been wound up, we just don't know yet. Unless you know something we dont.

A friend of mine who is a Plymouth ST holder says that Wotton was immense the season they got promoted from league 1. So much so when he came to watch us one weekend this season he was looking forward to seeing Wotton play! That was the Watford home game. Not sure what other Plymouth fans think of him, but if Wotton can rediscover some of that alleged form, he could be a real asset to us.

Erm, me too. I think we'll be relegated to Eastleigh Wednesday Night 6-a-side Pitch Invasion by xmas, being a doom monger and all, apparently.

Fair enough, at least you actually accept that my point of view may be different to yours, unlike others. Actually KP I think you have probably just said what CB Fry has been trying to say, except you've done it without backing me into a corner by picking holes in every word I have written. From conversations I have had outside of my immediate friend group, and from snippets I had picked up on here it seemed to me as though a reasonable section of fans felt that L1 would be easy, which was a bit worrying, hence the reason I started the thread. I guess this thread has shown that most people do think it will be tough and so I can see it is just a small minority who think we will walk league 1.
-
I've already linked to the post which prompted my thread, the actual words are " but when we go back up". I have also pointed to Fan the Flames saying we will be "easily" promoted. You asked me to show you somebody, I did that and you then argue semantics because thats all you have left. I stand by my original opinion. I wasn't trying to be smart-arsed, I was raising a point for discussion about something which concerns me, overly high expectations. I started the thread to get peoples opinions, not to have a one on one argument with you mate. You are just trying to wind me up now and I'm not going to rise to it again. I think you are wrong, you think I am wrong, no doubt you will come back on and make sure you will have the last word but you're welcome to it. Bye now.

He was always an athlete but did look completely shocking with the ball when he first joined us. Then he got his head down a bit and worked to his strengths.
-
If you can't see that there is a genuine difference between accepting that something is possible and taking it for granted or expecting that it will happen then we have nowhere to go with this discussion. Done. Fan the Flames said on this thread "We will get promoted easily in the next 2-3 seasons". Having spoken to a number of people who have expressed this view, the "we will walk L1" view, I decided to check the general opinion by starting this thread. There are a number of other people on here concerned with the same thing so I cannot be the only one who has encountered this. You clearly have not spoken to anybody with that view but you can't tell me I haven't. I have.

Where did I put that ginger wig? Would love it but can't see it happening.
