I thought we were told on here our skillful players would be much better because they'd get more time on the ball?
-
i think we'll win and Guly will come on with at least 15 minutes to go.
-
i think you might be taking this post a bit too seriously Colin.
-
Okay, lets flip this as im interested to hear your thoughts. What do you see on his CV which convinces you he is the right man to oversee a department which includes coaching, medicine, scouting and recruitment and the academy?
-
Barry Fry do me a favour! I actually feel quite bad being so anti Les Reed as by all accounts he's a lovely fella, i just dont see what he brings to the table. Nothing in his past suggests he is capable of being effectively a director of football. I can see him in a role as academy manager or something as he did that with England, just not in a position he is in. If as we understand is the case, he is in charge of transfers then he has let Adkins down badly and if Adkins goes so should Reed.
-
He didn't. He went there as Dowies assistant, took over when Dowie got fired and "left" after his incredible performance as manager.
-
Its not just about what happens on the pitch though is it.

Do you not think a director of a football centre or whatever his title is might need a bit of football experience to be suitable to do the job or should we get a shoe salesman in?!!! So Reed in his one and only role as a manager was regard as the "worst manager in history" He was sacked from his role at the FA by Trevor Brooking for reasons that remain confidential apparantly, but i think it's fair to say nice guy Trev didnt sack him because he was doing a brilliant job!!! He's never played or managed at the top level, but i'm sure his experience as assistant manager at Bishops Stortford will hold him in good stead!!! So in his current role by his own words "I am responsible for what we call the Football Development and Support Centre. It is a concept rather than a facility. FDSC incorporates Coaching, Sports Medicine and Science, scouting and recruitment, kit and equipment and the Academy" I would say given his track record it doesn't really suggest hes got the credentials to be Director at a Premier league club with so much responsibility. Or maybe he does, who knows? Prehaps we should get a shoe salesman in?

In the word of the great Bobby Robson What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”

Have you never applied for a job when you've been already employed?
-
Or Jim Brennan, or Patrick Colliter or Lee Todd or even Benali for that matter.
-
Is he the one that upset a lot on here by saying Matt Jarvis wouldn't join us as he didn't want to be relegated again?!!!
-
I didn't start it!! As for Gazza to Bristol City, it was actually reported in a couple of nationals so more than a rumour, i guess Borucs investigation has led to it not happening.
-
He was joking (i hope) of course, humour is lost on you young Matthew.
-
They've got reports outside Staplewood talking live, the press coverage is ridiculous.
-
Sounds great. Althought the bit in bold might be an issue!
-
Didn't really say much, just a Redknapp style, wound down window interview where he said he hoped to still be manager on saturday and cant wait to still be Southampton manager.
-
being shouted down on a mongboard has got to be on everyones bucket list.
-
Do we now agree the transfer window was a balls up, despite spending £30m?
-
Are you deliberately being dense? Where have i said he was involving himself in footballing matters? I've said people saying we are struggling because the CEO is learning the job are talking nonsense because him learning his job should have NOTHING to do with what happens on the pitch. He has people employed to take care of football matters, like he takes care of fiancial ones. It really isn't difficult to understand. Is that clear enough for you? No mention of Cortese involving himself in football matters whatsoever.
-
I didn't say he was "meddling" did I? I said you would hope a CEO with a background in banking would leave football matters, which he clearly knows FA about, to people who he has employed to do this job. Which is why i fail to see why the excuse "the chairman is learning" should have nothing to do with on the field results. he shouldn't have anythign to do with them!! As i said in another post. I'm sure Andy Crosby didn't tell him what bank to go for for the loan.
-
He made the appointment in April 2010, he's had over 2 years to correctt he mistake. He isn't learning very quickly is he!!! When i say nothing to do with football matter, i mean very little. Hes a banker, so you'd hope he would leave most of the football decisons to people who (supposedly) know what they are doing. I'm sure Andy Crosby didn't tell Cortese what bank to get the loan from!
-
Nope, still not sure how i've contradicted myself. I didn't hear people saying Delia Smith was still learning when Norwich were relegated. AS CEO NC should have near enough FA to do with football matters, this should be left to the people he has employed to take care of these issues. He should be in the background doing the things CEO's do, so why is our crap performance this season got anything to do with the CEO learning the job? This should be taken care off by people employed to take care of these things. Unless you're telling me that at 59 years old Corteses advisior is "still learning"!!
-
We've already been over my view on Reeds role in the promotions. I'm not doing it again.
-
I dont really get what you mean Colin? How have i contradicted myself? You said the club was learning and this is the excuse, not me. And as you and i both said, he has an advisor. This advisor is a man whose glowing CV includes 0 games of top flight playing experience, being sacked by the FA, voted the worst manager in history at Charlton and assist manager at the mighty Bishops Stortford. That is the man advising our CEO on football decision. I dont buy your "club is learning" excuse because we have a trusted advisor helping the CEO.
