Our Future? Stadium Expansion Proposal on Season Ticket DVD
Turkish replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
There are records actually. The Dell capacity in our glory years of the early 80s was 24k and our averge crowd was about 18-20k So what did the Dell have to do with it. why are we going to tap into these tens of thousands of fans with nothig else to do when their team is away on saturday now when we've never done it at anytime in our history? -

So quite a minority then. When I worked in Basingstoke most locals supported London clubs or Man U and Liverpool. Your local stats back this up. It's probably to say based on this northern Hampshire is as much, if not moreso a London club catchment area than a Southampton one. -

How many people in Basingstoke do for example, support Saints compared to London clubs and Reading? -

I think what he's saying is we can fill a bigger stadium by filling it with away fans in the home ends and hoping when London teams are away a lot of their fans decide to come and see us instead. That does seem to be it, which may I say is a quite brilliant business plan. -

/\ well they don't seem to be doing it at the moment when this could be their first chance to see premier league football locally in 7 years, so the answer seems to be, no, they won't come here when their team are playing away. -

Tsk Fry. It's not price slash, that would be ridiculous. It's dramatically reduced prices, There is a big difference. -
Some of you won't like this. It it seems to be the case according to David James http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2216364/David-James-says-anti-racism-campaigns-football-causing-unnecessary-trouble.html In summary Less black managers because fewer of them do coaching courses Those that do do have been given chances some have failed, some like Chris Houghton have done well And a telling quote 'I struggle with the racist issue because I don't see it' He goes onto say on this link that anti-racism groups have an agenda to keep themselves in existence and doesn't see racism anywhere! http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/914798-david-james-racism-in-football-is-an-agenda-serving-myth This can't be true!!! it does All seems pretty straightforward and common sense and what some have been saying on this issue for a while though.

Not really in my head was it. You admitted yourself if we expand and offered slashed, err I mean dramatically reduced tickets prices, you were clueless as to knowing how we could make sure these tickets only went to people that can't afford it at the moment. the ones you want to attract and not current match goers taking advantage of cheaper tickets, moving seat and leaving their unaffordable seats empty. Thereby they are all taking all the cheaper seats paying £200 a season less, their more expensive seats are now empty and still too expensive for those that can't afford it, our crowds stay the same, revenue goes down as existing match goers are now paying less and we have 8,000 new seats empty and £20m worth of debt. It's not p*ss taking, You don't seem to like it and had no answers when the huge holes in your brilliant Bayern Munich model were shown to you, so that is what you resorted to calling it. -

Such a dell sized mentality. Build it and they will come. -
That you would do c30k a year in. would you go for an older, cheaper car with a low mileage, say something like an old shape BMW 3 series which you can get pick up with about £5k with 50k about an 04 plate or go for a much newer model and pay a fair bit more, like an 08-10 A4, 3 or 5 series?

THats quite amusing for you. -
Are you suggesting that our rivalry with with Spurs was similar to the one Bournemouth and Birghton fans tried to invent and we dismissed as being embarassing and being small time from clubs we don't care about?
-
I was in a pub up there and a load of shirters saints fans came in and started singing that, it was so embarassing.
-
And that was a proper rivalry, we really did hate them! The sheer vitriol that used to cascade off the stands at the Dell and then St Marys back then was something to behold. It wasn't like the happy clappy atmosphere inside St Mary's these day, back then Tottenham games were filled with venom and hatred. It certainly ruined the careers of Kasey Keller and Neil Sullivan, two top international keepers on the time who never recovered from the verbal batterings they used to take on their visits to the south coast. It was in some ways sad to see grown men mentally breaking down in front of us and almost frightend to make saves in fear of what might await them when they turned to face the baying mob afterwards. Same with the strikers, you almost felt the Robbie Keane and co were too frightend to score, Southampton was a horrible place to be if you were assocaited with spuds (lol) in those days. Meanwhile the Spurs fans brave enough to make the journey south would attempt to slip in and out of St Mary's unnoticed, those that were stupid enough to make themselves known were quickly dealt with and left in no uncertain terms that they weren't welcome.

I'm amazed there are people on here who think he is a great defender and will be fine in the premier league. He really isn't. A few goals last season and walking around clapping the fans at the end of every game seemed to have fooled people into thinking he's some world class defender last season. A few bits of reality for you. Some people seem to be fooled into thinking he had a great partnership with Fonte last season. The reality was that we we're flat track bullies, most of our clean sheets came when we dominated games, how many games did we pick up points where we defended brilliantly and held onto a 1-0 win or a backs to the wall point? When under pressure this great partnership looked fragile and often gave away sloppy goals. As soon as Jos arrived Fontes performances dropped off. For whatever reason the two of thm didn't look comfortable together. It's no coincidence that Fontes performances have picked up alongside Yoshida. A centre half is often as only good as his partner, look at how good Lundekvam was alongside Michael Svenson yet then how poor he looked alongside other partners. Centre backs are a unit and need understanding. For whatever reason Fonte and Hooliveld don't seem to have that. I'm sure some people will point to the odd game here and there and be up in arms that I dare to say Hooliveld isn't the best defender ever to have played for us. Hes a good guy and by no means a terrible player, just not good enough and was never going to be good enough for the premier league. I did warn of this last season but was told i was wrong and he was brilliant. However, look over the course of last season and look at how many soft goals we gave away and how many times we conceded in games we didn't dominate possession. That tells its own story as to how good he is. Whist it isnt his fault he is Hes certainly been the one to be found wanting this season more than the others.

Sorry, against who?

I reckon they got them from being punched in the leg on the coach coming back from Everton.

He looks like a Swedish bloke that has eaten another Swedish bloke.

Middle aged fathers fantasising about more attractive men getting dressed is another.

I Am yet to meet a person in the real world, not on spaz boards that wants Adkins out. As for looking at things through through better eyes, I suggest you practise what you preach and read the thread again, I said on several occasions I didn't want Redknapp here. However I was disagreeing with people who say he is a crap, clueless manager, he isn't.
