Agree. Apparently VVD "really wants to play in the CL with Celtic", despite quotes from him earlier this summer that he wants to leave. Usual posturing. When you see prices of the likes of Chester and Brady, £10m for Van Dijk would appear decent value.

Has barely played now for 4 years. Not being able to make an impact of any sort in the MLS is pretty poor for a player who was decent at L1 and Championship level.

Ideally yes. Reality - he won't sign one and will move at the end of this season after 3 good years. As he will only have a year left we will get less than he is worth, as with Clyne. Anything the club can do: bar trying to get players like VW and Mane to sign new deals after 1 year, not really.

By the end of that season he was playing a lot more centrally. Potentially he is the best striker we have. Certainly the best finisher.

I would also go for this. Easily capable of a good result and yet allows key players to be fresh for the first PL game.

Why not? With a 3-0 lead surely the likes of Long, Rodriguez and JWP who won't start against Newcastle would be better to play versus Vitesse than Mane, Wanyama, Pelle?
