He could be back playing before Christmas. Perhaps someone will effectively do a deal with him to move then, providing he doesn't sign a new contract which would push up his price. He is injured now, but reports suggest is recovering well and it won't be too long before he is back. The injury is a red herring. He is an in demand player who will probably move on in the next year one way or other. He has seen the best players go, knows a couple more will follow and has teams following him. Why would he sign a new contract at this point? Answer: He won't.

If he doesnt sign then we will have to cash in next summer, thats what I think will happen. He might as well stay this season and focus on getting back fit knowing he will go straight into our team when he is able to. If he does well he will have lots of interest next summer when he has a year to run and Saints will sell rather than lose him for nothing.

If you were advising Jay, and assuming his injury is healing well, there is no need for him to tie himself down when Saints is a relatively unknown quantity. After the Bournemouth game there is 22 days til the Liverpool game and we only have 2 friendlies. Is that enough, considering we will be wanting some players to play 90mins. It mean some players will get in total less than a full game in 22 days which to me doesnt seem quite right. We were meant to have the away friendly which has since been cancelled for some reason, would seem there should be another game in that early Aug period to me. As of Monday we will have played half our friendlies whilst some teams only had their first one today.

It wasnt exactly a gamble. They are a bigger club with better players and earn and spend more money. He is likely to do a good job there because he is a good coach and will be working with decent players, like he did with us.

Is our squad better now than it was at the end of our first season back in the PL in May 2013? Pretty much net gain is a disillusioned Lovren and Wanyama. Loss is Puncheon, Shaw, Lambert, Lallana. Tough one to call, obviously players have improved too.

Schneiderlin Spurs thing at best is pretty ill considered on his behalf. After the hype of similar Twitter stuff you would think players would learn.
