Analysis of Hooiveld Errors this Season

Whats your point Davie? That because Barry is crap its ok for Jos to be as well? And its fine making 20 clearances a game, but if you can't track terry from a corner, or swipe at RVP/Tevez in the box then it kind of undoes any good work! I know Yoshida has made a couple of poor errors in about 30 games (Arsenal away, QPR home, Wigan away) but nowhere near the number Jos has in a lot more games. Fonte similar, probably 2 or 3, certainly not a poor error in nearly 40% of his matches. -

Ok - every four games he makes a serious error leading to a goal. Just under 40% of games he makes a serious error of some kind that either results in a goal or very good chance ie penalty.. -

In a quarter of his games (0.26) he makes a serious error leading to a goal. 6 errors in 23 games = 26% of the games. -

Indeed. Although you would say that the Reading one and the WH one were very similar, after the let off at Reading would you then do the same thing in the next game? -

The West Ham one I think he just got there too slow. A more nimble defender like Yoshida would have got to the ball, and if they didnt think they could would have just got in a position to close the forward down instead. -
While there is a lot of speculative conjecture being bandied about on here as usual, I want to keep to the facts about Jos Hooiveld's performance this season, and the doubts that persist over his ability as a Premier League footballer. Before that, one point: Hooiveld comes across as a very nice, polite and respectful man who was very good for us last season and has had some decent games this year too. In your opinion, is this too many "serious errors" compared to the number of matches played? Sun 19th Aug - Man City away (3-2 loss) Hooiveld clumsily trips Tevez to concede a penalty which is then saved by Davis. Sun 2nd September - Man Utd home (3-2 loss) Hooiveld ludicrously slides in on van Persie to concede a penalty which again Davis saves. Sat 15th Sept - Arsenal away (6-1 loss) Hooiveld somehow fails to clear the ball from the goal-line, instead clumsily tripping up and the ball going into our own net. Subbed injured. Sun 7th Oct - Fulham home (2-2 draw) Hooiveld essentially scores two own goals. The second he could arguably do little about, the first he widly hacks at a Riise shot that was heading wide and clumsily deflects the ball into his own net. Tues 30th Oct Leeds away (3-0 loss) Rushed and clumsy clearance falls to Micheal Tonge to score one of Leeds goals. Sat 30th March Chelsea home (2-1 win) Hooiveld completely loses Chelsea's man threat from set pieces before slipping over and John Terry heads home unmarked. Sat 6th April Reading away (2-0 win) Hooiveld slightly fortunate not to concede a penalty for a clumsy (although probably just about fair) tackle on Hal Robson-Kanu. Sat 13th April West Ham home (1-1 draw) Hooiveld clearly didn't learn from last week or earlier in the season as he clumsily brings down a WH player on the edge of the box and Andy Carroll scores a deflected free kick. TOTAL season starts: 23 TOTAL serious individual errors leading to goals against: 6 (Hooiveld makes a serious error leading to a goal against approx every 4 games) TOTAL including serious errors not leading to goal ie penalties saved etc: 9 (Hooiveld makes a serious error other teams can punish in just under 40% of his matches) NB: None of the goals in the generally awful defensive performances at West Ham (4-1 loss) or Stoke (3-3 draw) are included as there were no specific "serious errors" made by Jos. Personal opinion - Most of these errors are from clumsy play, hacking wildly at shots or needlessly tripping clever opponents. Jos is clumsy, but not a bad defender. The clumsiness is however, exploited at this level and IMO he would be easily replaceable in the summer. It is also worrying that he had a poor start, then a good spell when MP took over, but has slipped back again the last three games, two of which he has made poor errors leading to goals and one which he could easily have conceded another penalty.

No - doing a 10/10 job and shows up some of the buffoons in football, Gold and Sullivan for a start.

They have two games in hand though, although one is Man City away.

Clumsy Hooiveld...not for the first time. The glaring weak link in the first XI. -

They are so bad to watch but get results. Clumsiness from Jos costs us again... -
Two. So 50%.

No.

Oh pal. Bet that looks class as well. I'm another hoping it won't change as have it on my left buttock.

And thus far borne out by his actions. He will make a big name for himself in football IMO and we should appreciate him more. Too many Chairman are happy for their club to plod along doing nothing much, Cortese doesn't value mediocrity. Look at when NA went, all the pundits talking about staying up etc...that has never been his aim and is refreshing IMO as a fan to have someone like that at the helm.
-
Good prospect. Can only be good news.
-
IMO talk of Champions League is slightly OTT when we have game to win tomorrow to all but secure Premier League football next year.
-
They, McDermott and Pulis especially, are IMO poor managers whilst everyone could see what was/is wrong with Sunderland.
-
Why? One game doesn't change the belief. If we lose its because we won't have played very well, not because we are not a good side.
-
Sorts of players in terms of names is irrelevant because the club will have their own targets. But if we brought in a centre back who is as good as Lambert, Ramirez, Schneiderlin, Cork etc that would be a great start. Astori has been mentioned and I havent seen much of him but he sounds from what I have read to be a very good player. Attacking midfielder for me is a big one, someone who can play in any of the three positions behind the striker. Clearly we wanted Coutinho who has shown a lot of talent so far at Liverpool so if we are looking at players of that quality then I would be happy, and three players of that type of quality would clearly boost us quite a bit. All about confidence though, a good start in the first 5 or so games next season and I would be very excited.

Sorry, but you create your own luck, in what way have we been "lucky"?

This - he is this seasons James McClean.
