That the EU has problems has never been in dispute, and many of us rabid remainer’s have argued that the EU is not perfect and needs reform. Politicians are survivors, and I believe they will act to ensure the EU not only survives but thrives, whilst reforming it for the better. There are already many signs that the issues raised are being taken seriously, shame we will not be in a position to benefit. Its always interesting how easy it is to have two different interpretations of the same article.

At What Point Do You Say - Ok Now You Have To Pay For The Service
moonraker replied to Gemmel's topic in The Lounge
Who will decide whether some ones stupidity or perceived stupidity caused them to need assistance? Lawyers will have a field day, “where there’s a claim there’s blame”, and no one will win except them. The RNLI is a Charity, it rightly does not discriminate, it just gest on with what it was set up to do, save lives without making judgements or seeking reward. We could do with more of this attitude in a society that is becoming ever more litigious and blame seeking. -
It's called sarcasm, the German car manufactures have been played by you Brexiters as our saviour, which is ironic as you supposedly want to take control. It is obvious that all that matters to you is being out of the EU and to hell with the consequences.
-
As the resident Brexiter in chief try addresing the issue please, how will things change for the better, trade wise? The EU will not give any concessions on freedom of movement, so what control has been taken back? If you took my reference to the Car manufacturers literally then there really is no hope for you.
-
Hook line and sinker, as per usual, the German car manufactures have nothing to do with it except in Brexiters fantasy land. The EU will not grant an country dispensation on freedom of movement and access to the single market. How about addressing the point that we are going to have great difficulty in realising the deal that was widely implied by the Brexit camp, access to the single market and restrictions on freedom of movement, it isn’t going to happen and Boris, DD and Liam cant do anything about it, so what will we actually end up with that will be better than we had before.

I see the Swiss referendum to Take Back ControlTM of their borders is going swimmingly! The Swiss people spoke and quick as flash nothing has happened, and nothing will, the EU has flat-out refused to enter into negotiations on this topic. It seems not even those oh so important German Car manufactures can persuade the EU to grant the Swiss what they want, and they do sell a lot of their high end models in the Alpine wonderland.

If you need proof of the EU's success just look at the Olympics medal table, 76 Gold, 81 Silver, 83 Bronze medals, 240 in Total so much for the US of A!

This, I have no idea what is going on, but the fact that a BIG club or clubs have shown an interest in Fonte should not be a surprise.

Now you have clarified that there was no economic argument for leaving the EU(apart from £350 m for the NHS), let’s take your stated reasons for leaving and see where we are: a. Immigration – no change and unlikely to change if we want to retain access to the single market – likely final outcome Brexit Failure. b. Control of our Borders - we have this we just don’t do it very well due to lack of Government funding. When linked to point a, above likely final outcome Brexit Failure. c. Regaining Sovereignty – this is a much misused and abused term, what you Brexiters seem to aspire to is Westphalian Sovereignty. Whilst leaving the EU will remove one external body from direct dominion over some aspects of UK Legislation and Regulation there are many more international bodies the membership of which has not been questioned by Brexiters and yet they have direct dominion over areas of our Legislation and Regulation – likely final outcome Brexit Failure. d. Legal System – The recent u-turn on a UK Bill of Rights has amply demonstrated that this is not easy. If we wish to remain a major economy and nation with global influence we have to accept a whole range of external jurisdictions that are completely separate to the EU - – likely final outcome Brexit Failure. So what is it that Brexit will actually achieve, apart from uncertainty, economic turmoil, distraction for getting on with the things that really matter.

Also, being pedantic, the majority did not vote for Brexit, the majority of those eligible to vote who voted did vote Brexit but this is only 38% of the electorate, so not a majority. It has reasonably been argued that those who did not vote don’t care, but this does not alter the fact that only 38% voted for change whilst 62% either did not or abstained. What I find disappointing is the low turn out amongst the young, only 35% of 18 – 25 year olds voted and there are over 3,800,000 of them and of those that did vote voted over 75% in favour of remain. It was a real failure of the remain campaign to fail in mobilising the section of he electorate that was most likely to vote for them.

Great to see the easy ride to Global trade deals is on track, oops China miffed already, looks like thats one major trade deal likley to drag out for years.

Anything less and the fans will boo them onto the pitch.

Thought this was funny on one of the fews MB's "Whilst walking away from FP on Saturday, spoke with several Carlisle fans who thought we were awesome and rightly favourites to win the league." More fuel for the delusion furnace.
-
As one plank to another I was not referring to the self interested politicians alliance but the ordinary British voters who have been royally conned. The promise and lies of your swivel eyed looney mates can never be realised or delivered, but hey ho you just keep on with the insults, the remain camp had one and only one promise, that we would stay in the EU, it required no unholy alliance or lies but still the politicians f**ked it up.
-
And there is the problem no one knows how to trigger article 50, legal council cannot agree, the politicians are pontificating and do not have a plan. Even when this is sorted I would bet my shirt the Brexiteers will be widely split as the outcome will not address many of the issues that they were promised Brexits magic wand magically resolve.
-
Nothing I wrote referred to negatives in the EU but has everything to do with the self inflicted uncertainty of the Brexit vote. As usual you completely ignore any of the points I made, how do you view the worsening economic situation that has its root in the Brexit vote, a simple good or bad will suffice? Exactly what control have we got back, we are still in the EU and the total chaos surrounding how we will leave is anything but being in control, what is it like with your head in the sand?
-
Worrying about German banks wont deflect attention from what is currently happening at home, the preverbal chickens are coming home to roost; economic outlook deteriorating with an ever increasing probability of a recession and falling business confidence, no plan and no idea how to actually negotiate withdrawal from the EU, additional QE, more interest rate cuts, increased hate crime (just a coincidence?), Legal confusion on who, how and when Article 50 can be triggered, still the suns still shinning (just) and we have control !!!

Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES
moonraker replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
Why quote Brussels, a city, alongside nation states, you might as well quote Bradford for the UK also 25% Muslim, how many mass killing terrorists attacks there? Since 1980 so called Islamic Terrorist mass killings have accounted for 52 deaths in the UK, other mass killings are; the IRA 22, random criminals 86, Lockerbie, a State Sponsored act, 270. There is no doubt that Islamic Fundamentalist Terrorism is serious problem, just like IRA (Roman Catholic) Terrorism in the 70's and 80's. The problem is not Islam per se but the use of Islam by evil criminal elements in Muslim communities. The only difference between Batman and Trump is at least Trump can use 140 charecters. -
Brexit has always been full of irony, the victorious swivel eyed loons have won a democratic referendum and now undemocratically tell anyone who questions the wisdom or post Brexit plan to ‘suck it up’, get over it etc. Well in my version of democracy you don’t suck it up or get over it, if you believe in something you carry on debating and fighting. As JB keeps telling us things change, so Brexitiers be prepared, it might not turn out quite how you expected.

Surely all you need is a Toyota Hilux an arc welder, odd bits of angle iron, some nuts and bolts, and hey presto an instant nuclear missile delivery system.

The new Cabinet poses more questions than it answers. While some appointments or confirmations and indeed sackings were predictable the 3 that stand out are, Bojo, Sly Fox and Davis. All prominent and controversial Brexiters. Whilst having Brexiters in the cabinet was essential there are plenty of other lower profile Brexiters who could have been appointed to satisfy the Brexit constituency. Fox is toxic, he failed at Defence and has not got a look in since. He is on the very right of the party and while he is very careful not to air dirty washing in public he is known for his behind the scenes sh*t stirring. Cameron appointed him to keep an eye on him and to trap him, it worked, I hope May has the same strategy. Bojo is another case of give him some rope and he will hang himself. If they are true to form, May will soon enough have a good reason to replace them and the Brexit and Right wing factions of the Tory party will have nothing to bleat about. Davis is a shrewder appointment, a perennial Eurosceptic and a darling of the grass roots. He has been charged with what is arguably the most difficult job. There are no case studies to review, experienced mentors to consult or well exercised civil servants to call on. It’s a case of you wanted this now sort it out. If things do not go the way Brexiters want, May can use Davis as her human shield. Will they all be in post a year from now, I wouldn’t bet on it.

Correct every penny Boeing 'Invest' in the UK for the P-8 Poseidon programme will come from the British Taxpayer, a % of which will be profit and therefore end up in the US. If the slash and burn defence review of 2011 had not cancelled our indigenous, somewhat troubled, MPA programme 2000 jobs would have been protected and new ones created within a British company. Finally the lack of any credible MPA over the past 6 years has increased the security risk and meant we have gone cap in hand to various governments to ‘borrow’ MPA capability, for a maritime nation this is a national disgrace, and still there is a myth that security and defence are safe in Tories hands.

This tells you all you need to know about this thoroughly unpleasant man. His pathetic claim to want a new kind of politics is an effort to hide his very old and underhand socialist bully boy tactics.

The % of the national vote is not an indicator of electoral success in our FPTP system, ask the Lib Dems and UKIP. What matters is whether the vote is concentrated in specific constituencies. If Labour does disintegrate (split) following the 2nd coronation of the their Socialist Messiah the key will be how many of those MP’s who voted against Corbyn will actually follow through and leave the Labour Party, either for another established party or as part of a new left of centre Social Democratic movement. If the latter I believe with strong leadership, professional organisation and campaigning , and time such a party would do well in a GE. The difficulty in distinguishing between the core offerings of Blair’s New Labour and Cameron’s Tory Lite, as evidenced by election results over the past 20 years, is a strong indicator that the British electorate believe in broadly social democracy policies, and the majority will not support extremism on either wing of the political spectrum. Corbyn and his acolytes confuse radical left wing ideology with social democracy, the electorate will not be so confused, the angry, irreverent hordes who have contaminated the Labour Party will only drive its downfall.

Sorry should actually have said, great news another major piece of the jigsaw secured.
