  1. He's spot on in terms of we are far too passive and need to be more aggressive. These failings are why we concede so many goals and Ralph never came near to doing anything to make things better. Far too often, including today, we give teams time and space to play their football and you just can't do that in the Premier League. He obviously explained this to the players at half time and we came out much tighter after the break. I like the fact that he had the balls to step up and take this match with very little preparation time and he clearly learned a lot about what sort of things we are struggling with. Now,him and the coaches have 6 weeks of hard work to get them drilled and doing the right things at the right time. Early days of course but Nathan Jones seems to be a coach who will expect and demand high standards in terms of commitment, effort and work with and against the ball. I am more optimistic than I was six days ago.
  2. It's still pretty tight in the bottom half so not too concerned we're in a relegation spot now. I think with a combination of players coming back from injury, a decent January window and Nathan Jones and coaches working hard during the world cup break we'll look a different team. That's what I'm hoping anyway and today wasn't all negatives there were some positives to take from that performance.
  3. Spot on. If you pick Diallo then play him in a three in an advanced position. On no account expect him to play defensively in a two because that is not his game. I wish someone at the club would realise this because it's been obvious for long enough now.
  4. 3-1 at Anfield is better than many of our results up there and we created some decent chances with quite a few efforts on target. Much better after going to a back 4. We didn't get hammered and their keeper had to make some good saves. An encouraging start and Jones would have learned a lot today. Now he has some time working with the squad and I think we'll see a real difference after the world cup.
  5. Nunes seems to operate quite wide on the left so maybe we're trying to match him with someone with a bit of physicality.
  6. Yeah, the first effort in particular with an open goal should have been thumped into the net and, instead,he kind of just rolled it gently towards the goal making it easy to block. As I've said before, what can you expect for £75k a week these days.
  7. Yeah, stand corrected on that 🙂
  8. Don't think Haaland would win many 100 meter races and Adam Armstrong is far quicker than him as well.
  9. Not sure why people keep bringing up Luggy, Gray and Wigley as though they have any relevance whatsoever to the appointment of Nathan Jones.
  10. Not sure how much input Jones will have in terms of team selection and tactics this soon into his tenure. Think he'll be taking advice from Selles for this one but hopefully will still have some influence in lifting the players and the performance. Something of a free hit anyway as not many expect much from Anfield even if Liverpool are on the wane by their own high standards. A draw would be a great result.
  11. Maybe better to judge him on results rather than how many pages he racks upon a fans forum.
  12. Blimey,you just upped the ante -now you're wanting a 20 goal a season striker 🙂
  13. Welcome Nathan and let's all hope this appointment works out. We have to remember this is the first such appointment under our new owners. When they bought the club many of us were excited to learn about the names behind SR and viewed them as something of a breath of fresh air. They came across as analytical, data driven and experts who paid attention to detail. Now they have appointed their first new manager and it is clear they've had Nathan Jones under their microscope for some time and decided he fits with their ambitions. Yet, because it's not a big name signing, many are already writing Jones off without giving him a chance. Either we trust SR or we don't so let's see how they do with this crucial appointment at a critical time for the club. I have a sneaky feeling we are going to be surprised in a good way. Nathan Jones comes across very well in his first interview and says all the right stuff as one would expect but I get the feeling he has something about him that might just galvanise our squad into action after a period of under achievement. If he can get some decent performances and results early on he'll soon have the fans onside although maybe his honeymoon period will be brief. Let's appreciate he is stepping in at a difficult time and see what he can do rather than pre-judging him and chucking our toys out the pram because he's not the big name some wanted - maybe he'll work out better in the long run. Good luck Nathan and to the two other new coaches as well.
  14. You will not gt a 15 goal a season striker in the January window unless you are very lucky.
  15. You won't win enough games let alone European runs and trophies by relying on hoofball alone. Nothing wrong with going long when it suits but it has to be mixed up with other elements at this level. Obviously he will need the club to sanction the signing of a big centre forward who suits this game because we don't have one. If Jones can do that then I don't think the football will be unattractive and he'll get the fans onside. He has a hard job ahead of him and I think he realises this but he does come across as somebody who is single-minded, passionate, determined and believes in what he's doing. Let's see.
  16. Nah, I mean, what can we expect of someone who is only paid 75k a week? You get what you pay for.
  17. I always thought cults consisted of those whose views were not in keeping with the majority of any given group.
  18. Just read the text on Wednesday's final penalty - 'saved to centre of the goal'....get away! Not tipped away from the top corner then 🙂
  19. After watching tonight he might take a rain check and decide he has a better squad at Luton.
  20. What all of them? Presumably that would include you.
  21. Can't see any announcement on the official website.
  22. Might as well put a traffic cone in the middle of the goal 🙂
  23. Why would this be announced in the middle of a match? Makes no sense.
  24. Agree, Payne would surely make more sense seeing as he is a right back. More square pegs in round holes 🙂
  25. Confusing line up. What is the formation going to be? Who will play right back?
