I agree with this. We are absolutely bonkers if the thinking is to build a side now that is likely to be relegated but will somehow storm the Championship next season - that's a mad strategy.

RM wouldn't have encouraged him to do that - finding space in midfield to receive a pass then laying it off and running down the wing to receive the return before crossing for team mate to score. Whatever next 🙂

I think even if the errors don't always lead to goals being conceded they can often create a sense of panic and nervousness that is not what you want particularly against Premier League opponents. Calmness is always better and tends to spread through the side rather than the feeling that everyone is running around like headless chickens.

Yet those who have already undergone this rigorous training to get them used to the RM system still continually make massive mistakes leading to goals/chances being conceded. Just a thought but perhaps it's the system that is at fault especially for a side like us who will never have the top players like say Man City who clearly can and do make the system work.

I guess eventually, by a process of elimination, we'll sign someone who is within our budget, at reasonable wages, is happy to come here and, of course, who nobody else wants 🙂

This would be amazing but would be surprised if we get him. Both Manchester clubs have been linked with him although he probably wouldn't be a regular starter for them.

Good point.We are going to need to throw crosses in regularly because we won't often work the ball through Premier League midfields/defences with loads of passes and create chances - even the top sides sometimes struggle with that. If we don't learn quick our forwards will be living on scraps and we've already seen the signs in pre season games.

Stats I've seen show us as having made the 4th most number of crosses in the Chamionship last season.

Give the lad a fair crack - he can't do any worse than Mara. Despite all the talk about Tall Paul not suiting RM's system we constantly cross hopeful balls into the box despite having nobody up front who can head the ball. Man City and Utd put in plenty of crosses at Wembley today - it is within the rules of the game. One of the finest sights for me in my years supporting Saints was Ron Davies climbing to head home a series of superb goals.

Or maybe it's QPR or VAR.

So why have we been trying to sign Matt O'Brien?
