  1. You can't spin that abject tactical performance by MP. Teams have already rumbled the way we play, and he must come up with a Plan B. The players looked very tired to me, probably as a result of this so called pressing game and doing double training sessions. I honestly think we will be relegated by this clown.
  2. We were pedestrian at times and the players looked tired. This MP fella obviously has no Plan B, and furthermore doesn't even know what his best team is. Oh for the love of Nigel! At least when we are back in the Championship we will have JRod and Billy up front. Filling the other 9 positions will keep Cortese busy. Serves him right.
  3. Actually, it doesn't mean much IF we get relegated. Contracts are quite meaningless these days. It's just a way of preserving his value IF we go down. All our best players will be off if the unimaginable happens.
  4. Yes, "Scummer" was the 2-way insult for many a year. "Skate" is relatively recent in the scheme of things.
  5. This is a big test for MP and the players. The honeymoon is now over and it's time to grind out a result or two. Tactically, MP is a one trick pony in my opinion, but I hope he proves me wrong. Puncheon must play and so must Davis. Ramirez should be left on the subs bench for this one - I don't trust him, he loses possession far too often. This is going to be a very, very difficult game.
  6. I only saw the second half, but it seems to me that MP made a big tactical error in taking both Shaw and Davis off. Fox was absolute pants as he usually is, and consequently the defence fell apart like it did at West Ham away. Saints played some good stuff in the first 10-15 minutes of the second period, but faded badly after that. Newcastle didn't have a lot of chances - Fox just gifted them 2 goals. It was a stonewall penalty in my opinion. MP got it wrong today and he has 11 games to save his job. I don't think QPR will be that easy, and we are certainly still very much in danger of making the dreaded drop. Giving away 4 goals was pretty poor, and it should be noted that Adkins had us playing much tighter than this before he was sacked. I'm astonished that a lot of people on here have been heralding MP as some sort of tactical genius. I'm sorry, but I haven't seen much evidence of this so far. W1 D2 L2. Not really good enough is it?
  7. A Police spokesman has stated that Oscar's actions have placed him "out on a limb."
  8. The problem with laminate flooring is that the base needs to be level - especially if the floor is concrete. You have to use a self levelling compound. If the floor is not level then you will be forever peeved when certain boards 'creak' under weight. So, if you are going to use a tradesman, then ask him what he proposes to do to make the floor level. A timber floor is much easier and less of a problem. Cutting and fitting the boards is easy, but make sure you use a good underlay/softener specifically made for the purpose.
  9. Isn't it to avoid relegation first? We are only 4 points from the dreaded 'drop' chaps. All this talk of CL is a bit fanciful, no?
  10. The morning after.....Saints didn't let City settle at all and that was the key. We also got the breaks for once with the two very comical goals. Mind you, we gave them a comical goal in return. I thought the Boruc save was brilliant, and had that gone in then it might have been a bit more nervy. Everyone played really well, except I still think Fox has all the positional sense of a hedgehog on the fast lane of the M1. I know that we are still a work in progress, but is it too much to ask that professional footballers can actually shoot from distance? There is still a long way to go and we shouldn't get too carried away. However, I don't think I've ever seen Saints dominate top sides like that since the days of LM. In truth, Saints were playing very well under NA, but we have stepped up another tread over the past 4 games. Let's hope Shaw is back for the next game, though, because there was a definite weakness down that flank last night. MOM was MS for me.
  11. I have us on 35 points, surviving with a win on the very last day!
  12. Perhaps both Shaw and Targett will play? Shaw further forward?
  13. MLT has lost the battle and the War, therefore he should keep quiet now. You have to hand it to Cortese - he isn't daft. What MLT fails to realise is that he is an EX player, and what is important to the fans NOW is for Saints to retain PL status. Personally, I was very upset with NC for sacking NA, but you cannot hold a grudge forever. It is divisive, and does no one any favours. Matt should reflect rather mouth off. He has no more right to be treated like a God than any lifelong Saints fan. We pay for the privilege, we don't get paid.
  14. I think he should give it a big miss. The owner's are worse than Cortese.
  15. Doesn't sound like a knock to me. Season ending injury more like. A pity, as he is vital for us. Milner will run rings around Fox - if he is anywhere near in the right position that is, which he normally isn't.
  16. Go to "Happy Valley" for a stress relieving massage.
  17. My impressions: First half we ran around like headless chickens committing a lot of fouls. There was no intelligence or guile in our play - it was like watching a 3rd division team in a FA Cup 5th Round tie. All Wigan had to do was park the bus and hit us on the break. If it hadn't been for Boruc's brilliant save, we would have been 2-0 down at half time. Martinez did MP like a kipper in the first half in the tactical stakes. I don't think it was any coincidence that when Ramirez went off we improved. Same as at Man U. Second half we were great and should have won - but we still didn't create a lot of chances that our dominance warranted. For me, that is what is missing - the final ball and coolness in front of goal. Our defending was shocking for the 2 goals - we seem to have gone backwards in that department. I don't believe that the players can keep up this 100 mph stuff - it's too much. Teams will just hit us on the break. I think Man C will hammer us next week by doing just that. I also saw Saints players having words with each other - I hadn't noticed this under NA. I must admit that I'm not convinced by MP's tactics. They would probably work if we had players that could actually shoot. But we haven't. It's going to be touch and go to stay up.
  18. This is a joke, right? First half we were garbage....and we LOST!
  19. One point in six, the storm clouds are gathering, and the finger of doom is moving in Cortese's direction. I can't see us picking up 5 wins, so we'll need a manager to get us out of the Championship - NA anyone? Saints were very, very good 2nd half, but what was that formation in the first? I thought MP had studied lots of Saints videos? Even us mere mortals on here could have told him that formation wouldn't work. I think MP's tactical nous is limited and Martinez will take him to task on Saturday.
  20. I'm not aware of the business practices, but the logistical problems of redeveloping a whole city are massive. This isn't "can do" Victorian Britain. The port is so small that goods take ages to arrive - although they are planning to build a new one. That will be the first logjam. Then the difficulties of getting concrete/reinforcement are the next. During the Asian Games construction the problems were massive, and that was small fry in comparison to what is needed for the World Cup. Dubai Phil is right - international companies will lose their shirts, have bonds pulled etc, solely due to the fact that the infrastructure just isn't there to support such a massive and accelerated building programme. And the World Cup itself? The stadia will be full of Saudis and no one else. I don't think the teams will stay in Doha - it's just not possible to train outside in 50 degree heat. That is why Platini is supporting switching it to the winter. So, a winter World Cup it will have to be.
  21. The biggest challenge is to actually build the facilities for the World Cup. Can you imagine holding it in a place the size of Southampton - minus decent roads, sewers, railways, stadia, hotels, pubs, training camps etc. etc. And then add 50 degree heat! Still, they say they can do it, but it is a Herculean task.
  22. Irrespective of whether MLT has met Cortese or not, he should stop trying to undermine the club. We all - 95% of us - were upset by NA's sacking, but we are still supporting our club. If MP's appointment turns out to be a disaster then Cortese will have been taught a valuable lesson. If it's a resounding success, then we all have. I, for one, am getting irritated by MLT's comments. For example, during the Chelsea game he was extremely negative about NA's team selection. For me, the gloss has been taken off MLT's iconic status. First the spread betting issue, the failed takeover with a complete numpty, and now his constant sniping at Cortese. Do us all a favour Matt - shut up!
  23. He'll be gone in 18 months max. If he's a failure, Cortese will sack him. If he's a success, he'll join a bigger club. Simple.
  24. It seems that some of the fans have fallen for Cortese's smoke and mirrors already. There is absolutely no evidence - as yet - to suggest that MP has all the connections and a flood of top class internationals will come to Saints. We are still a relatively small club and it will be very difficult to get the likes of the Brazilian lad to join if clubs like Liverpool want him. The propaganda machine seems to be working, and I, for one, would like to wait and see. Using the "bird" analogy, MP is an exotic Swedish girl one has met on holiday. Her long blonde hair, blue eyes, and lovely figure are much more captivating than the heavily tattooed, fat, control freak girlfriend back at home. But can she cook?
  25. OP's opinion - what a load of absolute nonsense.
