Again it depends on what business we do in the current window. Same situation as with Nigel.

Early days but could you see the changes with MP tonight?
Suomi Saint replied to Pilchards's topic in The Saints
To be honest, I didn't see a lot of difference. It was Adkins team and substitutions. The higher tempo was probably as a result of the players trying to impress a new manager. JRod dropped a bit deeper than normal, but he still didn't bring much to the party. It was a good performance, which was encouraging, but the new man didn't have much of an influence. Early days of course. Cortese looked incredibly smug, though. He's like a Bond villain. -
Only time will tell, but I think he could have handled the current situation much better. We had no reason to believe that we would be relegated under Nigel. In fact we are something like 9th in the form table at the moment. Therefore, if Cortese wanted a change, then why not wait until the end of the season? Less haste.....more speed. Now he has created enormous uncertainty, with the threat of relegation only enhanced. He is a driven individual for sure, but he has taken a huge risk. That is not good management. It may pay off, but I have the feeling that it won't. It is a really, really big gamble. One that didn't need to be made.

Football fans are a fickle lot, and if we win on Monday then the protests will quieten down. But that's the problem - we're not likely to win and we are going to be sucked further into the relegation dogfight. So, the protests will not go away, and the results will deteriorate further. That's why this is a bad decision - absolutely the wrong timing. I don't care about this new guy one way or the other. If he's known about the job for a while, then why did he not go on a crash English course? Name dropping - "The special one is my friend" does not do it for me. Results are what we want - and Nigel was providing them. We are a small town club where the fans like to feel affinity with the players and manager. I'm afraid it is difficult to support an Argie who doesn't speak any English. I'm not xenophobic, just a realist. The new guy doesn't have a good record, so how people can spout he is the next "special one" is beyond me. If I were Ipswich, Forest et al, I would be on the blower to Nigel in the morning.
-
This is total insanity. If you are going to make a change then do it after Nigel has kept us in the PL. Not now with 16 games to go and we are on a good run!!!! And with an ARGIE who doesn't speak ENGLISH!!!!!! You couldn't make it up, could you? If I was a Chairman of another club, I would be on the phone to Nigel immediately offering him a job. Moyes must be licking his lips for Monday.....and QPR, Reading, Wigan, Villa, Newcastle must think it's great news too. Cortese must be one self-obsessed lunatic. Small man's syndrome.

Chelsea 2 Saints 2 - Post Match Celebrations & MotM
Suomi Saint replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
On the subject of rotation - we are not Man U and therefore the quality of the players coming in is not the same. We should always play our most influential players - and Rickie is top of the list. He is in a different class to JRod. -
Chelsea 2 Saints 2 - Post Match Celebrations & MotM
Suomi Saint replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Well, I switched the TV off at half-time as I was in a temper. It was late out here in Qatar and I didn't want to watch Saints "gift" Chelsea any more goals. I was also particularly upset with Adkins leaving our 2 best players on the bench. And then........I arrive at my office in the desert this morning to find out it was 2-2. Magic! We played okay first half, but really we were too negative, and the defending for their 2 goals was comical. Reminiscent of earlier in the season. I don't agree that Adkins got his tactics spot on, but, fair play, he must have motivated the boys at half-time. Why we paid 7M for J-Rod I don't know, but luckily we have Rickie. If only he were 5 years younger. Well done to the boys, particularly Puncheon, and the fans who went. At half-time I honestly thought we were looking down the barrel of a 5-0 drubbing, so 2-2 has literally made my week. -
Is it okay for Saints players to dive and cheat?
Suomi Saint replied to the stain's topic in The Saints
It was a dive, but a brilliantly timed one which deceived everyone. However, Nigel should have a word as it's cheating after all. -
Villa 0 v Saints 1 post match chat & MotM
Suomi Saint replied to SOTONS EAST SIDE's topic in The Saints
Saints were by far the better side for the first 70 mins, but then started to give cheap balls away. Leeds away was one way traffic for the whole game. J Rod runs around a lot, some of it very intelligent, but he can't shoot for toffees. Strangely, it was the final product that was lacking today. Lambert was class, and so was Boruc. We rode our luck a bit, but so did they. On the whole, we deserved it, but only just. -
Looked like a knee injury to me, but I hope not. He will be hugely missed. If it's a lengthy one then we must switch Clyne to left back. Fox was invisible when he came on - he can't read the game at all.

The FA Cup is.... exactly the same as it was 30 years ago
Suomi Saint replied to get_rich's topic in The Lounge
It's not the same, sadly. Could you have ever imagined Lawrie resting Channon and Osgood in 1976? That is effectively what Adkins did on Saturday. For the first time Adkins upset me - spouting that we want to win the Cup when clearly he had no intention of trying to get through the 3rd Round. Getting stuffed 5-1 and focusing on the positives. Idiot. -
The simple answer is no. Other areas need strengthening, and what's the point in signing a left back to sit on the bench? Shaw is mustard.
-
At the end of the day, if he wants to go then we'll have to sell him. Personally, I don't think he'll go for a couple of years, when he's in the England team. We certainly need to keep him here for the remainder of the season - he's the main reason why the defence has improved significantly. I don't think most people realise how good he actually is - but of course Wenger does. He's a joy to watch, simply brilliant.
-
It's a strange one isn't it? He looked too laid back, laughed at his own mistakes, couldn't kick for toffees, but still had the presence of a real goalkeeper. I would put him in against Chelsea definitely. How a professional sportsman can be that fat is a mystery, but you can't deny there is ability in there somewhere. His throwing was top class, and the defence didn't seem too worried about him to be honest.

Half term report, old boys and new boys.
Suomi Saint replied to david in sweden's topic in The Saints
Lambert's all round play has been good in my opinion. He has very good control with his feet and uses the ball intelligently in/around the box. But, I would bring in a new striker in the window if possible, because if Rickie gets injured then I think we're toast. It's a pity Billy Sharp is not available really. In order for us to have any chance of survival, we still need to bring 2 or 3 more in. Cork and Schneiderlin can't keep it up forever, and if one of the centre backs gets clobbered then life will be very difficult. I would say our overall chances of staying up are currently 40:60. The window will either save us or condemn us to the Championship. -
It's really strange you know - I was telling my 4 kids all about Thunderbirds, Stingray, Joe 90 and Captain Scarlett only yesterday. Ten minutes later I turn on the TV only to find out that the great man has sadly passed away. He was a genius. My first vinyl 45rpm single was the Thunderbirds theme tune with Parker/Lady Penelope on the B side. RIP.

Okay, thanks. Not good.

Shaw followed by Cork
-
Does anyone actually know the extent of the injury?
-
I agree.

I thought that many of the players looked a bit leg weary after Sunday. A draw was a fair result, and after getting over the shock and horror of Gazza's mistake, I was okay with a point. After all, Norwich were well organised and have beaten both Arsenal and Man U recently, so they are not too shabby. Personally, I would bring Kelvin back for Saturday. I think he was made to look a lot worse than he is by the defence in front of him - which was full of holes at that point.
-
Luke Shaw for me. He has made a massive difference to the defence, as his positioning is absolutely superb. Gone are the wide open spaces down the left side which Fox used to leave for the opposition to gallop into.
-
Well, that was a great game - top notch from Saints. FWIW, the goal should have stood as he was onside. No weak areas at all, and fair play to Gazza for that brilliant save from the header. Puncheon MOM for me, followed by Ramirez. Wednesday will be a test of character, but we can turn Norwich over. The crowd sounded fantastic over the Arabic commentary too. FYI, the Arabic commentators seem to love Gazza and Ramirez. They get really over-excited by those 2. For those who say Newcastle were rubbish, get a grip. Saints were simply superb. Well done Nigel and the lads.
-
I think everyone is proud of where they come from and I am no different. I'll always be proud to be English, but I do like living in Finland. The wide open spaces, zero traffic, fresh air, no yobs, all adds up to a good quality of life.
-
No, he's not injured. It was a tactical sub...and it worked a treat.
