Obviously not. Spertsyan would soften the pill of losing Fernandes though. I don't know an awful lot about him but he seems like a bit of a coup for a Championship club.

Manage Southampton on Football Manager 2026
hypochondriac replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Part time obviously. Football forum pedantry is much too important to be relegated to a part time pursuit. -
Fine. If we get in the players needed who cares what amount they go for?
-
I think people forget the Gillingham mess two seasons ago.
-
It's either that or loan with an option to buy for maybe 5 million at the end of it if no one will pay a fee.
-
The fact he isn't free is the primary issue.
-
Careful you may pass out.

Jack Clarke I thought would do really well I bthe prem for Ipswich and he did not a lot really.
-
Yes that's what I think will happen. There's no way in my view that we buy these top players in and stack the midfield without losing Fernandes. Downes, Charles, Spertsyan, Rudoni abd Downes alternative on loan would work well and give us cover in the cm positions.
-
Given how unreliable Downes is and how likely he is to be out for long periods, I'm not convinced we want to risk playing lots of games with Charles out of position. If we think Sesay is up for it then fair enough but if not he needs to go on loan and we need an alternative to Downes. Maybe on loan.
-
Whoplays if Downes doesn't though? Because I'm not convinced that Charles or Fernandes can play a deeper defensive role. Imo we need a Ugochukwu replacement if Sesay isn't up to it.
-
I'd rather play Fernandes further forward but it seems from Still's comments that he sees him more as a central midfielder and that coukd be an issue fitting all these players in the team. Personally I'd like a proper Downes alternative.

Damion Downs - Official: Loaned to Hamburg
hypochondriac replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
It's very early but I was hoping that Downs was more of a development squad signing like Mara rather than a starter. -
I don't think it's competing so much but that's why I said I consider it unlikely Fernandes if staying. If we sign Spertsyan then he's playing as an attacking midfielder. If that's the case then where is Fernandes playing? Instead of Downes? Because Downes is our only recognised holding midfielder so if Fernandes is playing in the middle it doesn't leave a lot of room. Similarly Rudoni if he's not competing with Spertsyan then is he Armstrong competition on the right?
-
Bazunu /loanee keeper Loanee rb THB Stephens/Quarshie manning Downes Charles/Rudoni Spertsyan/Fernandes Armstrong Robinson/loanee winger Archer/Stewart/Downs Other than a couple of question marks over our attack, that's a hell of a championship team if they pulled it off. I can't personally see us signing all those and not selling Fernandes though.
-
It would work Aribo, Dibling, Smallbone, Edozie, ABK, one lb, Bree off Rudoni, Spertsyan, loanee rb, loanee gk and loanee left winger
-
Do we need six central midfield options?
-
Indeed. They will be feeling a lot worse than us!
-
We don't want to sell clearly but we're also not in a position to turn down absolute top dollar for a player - that's pretty obvious. We also aren't going to publically put a figure on what we will sell for because that's a bad negotiating tactic.
-
Which club in the championship has turned down 60 million?
-
Because that's not how reality works.
-
I love how these teams publically announce they are walking away like we would consider that a bad thing.
-
It's tyro shite if he's losing and brilliant if he's winning. No one would be calling that infamous cringe clip of Nathan Jones a PE teacher lesson if he had been successful.
-
Love that from will. No flaccid eleven for him.
