the difference is I see your point! We were not in the league. If we were there would have been too many teams in it. so...if you look at the lowest team in the play off, they would have got into the play offs with the points I said! By you adding an extra team you would make all the sums wrong!
-
you really are looking hard to make an arguement! Tried to do a totally incontroversial thread with just figures to let each make their own opinion! Amazing
-
if S****horpe had 74 point last year that would have been enough to make the play off. They didn't need 76 to do it. Clicked?
-
no if you are higher than the team in 7th that makes you 6th!
-
yes but you only have to do better than the team in 7th to come 6th!
-
most common points we would have needed, over last few years, to reach the play offs, is a total of 69. (Last year S****horpe would have made it with 74) Leaving us 64 (to 69) more points to get We have 34 games left, and so we need about 1.8 (to 2) points per game. No room for bad runs at all. Interestingly tho - our current form, over last 6 games is almost exactly the form we need to achieve that target. Simply, if we carry on as we have the last 6 games - consistently (- or even improve!), for the rest of the season we should be in the play offs. I will leave you to your opinions on whether we will improve/get worse/or match the last 6 games!

remember he only first played, to any extent, last year under the Dutch is a poor season with a lot going on.

and never ever saw us being in relegation battle as some have
-
never changed my mind, from preseason to now most likely 8-12th play offs very possible need a good run to get confidence going never expected fast start not sure what you mean?
-
my weekly update; after todays games we have reached 6th! My target for hitting play off position in the form table, and to stay there -and the league table will look after itself!
-
was thinking the same - my thinking we won't be anywhere near relegation so if teams at bottom win all it does is slightly delay us catching them. we will most likely finish 8-12th -where doesn't really matter so the teams around there don't really matter. we may just get into play offs, if we are contending for play offs we will need good results - and those teams not to pull away. Therefore I am happy if all teams in bottom half take points from the top teams
-
there is that reaction after defeats - but no-one is saying we will walk this league - the most positive thread is one I started based on what their manager said - not our fans!
-
simple facts for you first game of the season we didn't have; Jaidi or Trotman - two very key defenders and first choices (both also have scored) Hammond - the gritty, CM player /leader we have been lacking for years - a captain by all accounts Lambert -the best CF, bar none, in the division - scoring regularly and great holding forward Papa -added pace, attacking flair - and 4 goals in 3 games Dean Wilkins/ Wally Downes http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/Management/0,,10280~1790796,00.html http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/Management/0,,10280~1753031,00.html There is using facts and then there is interpreting them and understanding them and selecting the right ones - which is where I think you are wrong
-
and two more for Lallana! Front 3 in rich vein of form
-
I think the last 6 or so if by far the best - its our current team with back room staff over a range of games.
-
my season starts thread (which will be updating after todays games) said climb current form table after each game - we have done so far. I am excited - its a good feeling - its the confidence that I will hold in check! I still think about 8th-11th is most likely - but play offs are achievable.
-
ok lets stick with just using the last game, 3 points per game - should make for pleasing season - or are my figures wrong?
-
no more stat correct than just using last nights and saying we will therefore be chapmions
-
you know why not - its a totally different team and coaching set up from the start of the season. Loads to do but the last 6 is hugely more of an indication of how the season is likely to go than the points per game you are using
-
manager getting best out of talented player.
-
if we get 2 more wins in next two games - we are likely to be out of relegation zone, looking at climbing table quickly and with high confidence. IMHO next two games could dictate our season - drop points and will be mixed results - win and it will be great season
-
Heard post match interview with him. not happy with their defending but said they couldn't live with some of our quality, and even with 10 point deduction we will be a play off contender this year. Heard Claridge say the same after last weeks game.

fyi over last 6 games (commonly used current form - and time when AP has had his team/staff around him) only 7 teams in division have performed better than us (one only by goal diff). the only defeat in those 6 games was to the team with best form only by a 96th minute wonder goal (after 5 mins being indicated not that I am bitter!) Therefore I suggest those were not our rivals, nor is Pardew failing to perform his job. http://www.4thegame.com/statistics/league-one/tables/currentform.html
