You've already said somewhere you don't go any more. I've sat through every minute of every game at SMS and seen every other game. I don't want to endure the absolutely negative dross any longer. Watching, Davis, JWP playing backwards and sideways with Boufal and Tadic going round in ever decreasing circles with Redmond giving the ball away all trying to keep possession nearly made me walk out on numerous occasions. Playing forwards that can pressure the opposition and maybe just score goals opposed to one player that could with the right service get a goal playing with a whole bunch of players that couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo is far better. Three from Gabbiadini, Austin, Long, Rodriguez and even Redmond would be more positive, physically stronger and would score more goals than the present set up. Romeu has adequately replaced Wanyama, Pelle wouldn't have played long with no service but Mane is a miss but neither of them would have made much difference with a system that puts possession above everything else.

He won't unless the manager plays him and ditches straitjacket. The real answer is get rid of the manager.
-
There are three options, play one striker that gets goals and three attacking midfielders that also get goals, more than one striker, or in Puel's, case one striker and hardly anyone else that can get goals on a regular basis. Keep the strikers and play more than one.
-
A better option is get rid of Puel now.

If Puel brings back the same old failed midfield/attack with the exception of Gabbiadini and plays with one isolated striker alongside Davis, Tadic and JWP on Wed and we lose he should be sacked on Thursday. It would prove he is incapable of learning any lessons and is tied to the toothless dross we have experienced at SMS all season. Clasie has played in the last two wins away scoring, Long and Rodriguez did ok without any help from the woeful Boufal, Redmond was better but Rodriguez, Long, Clasie, Hojbjerg, Pied and especially Caceres deserve another go and also see how Gabbiadini plays with Rodriguez and Long. If he reverts to same old rubbish he deserves the sack. We are only 5 points above the 40 point safety mark even in 9th position on GD, that's no great performance more a reflection of the mediocrity of the teams below the top 7. Finishing 8th is no great performance we are 16 points behind 7th. A half decent home record would have us with many more points. We've only managed 6 wins in 17 games at home and only scored 8 goals in 14 of them and 17 in total. Nowhere near good enough.

you are joking, more like Spurs.

Amongst other things including getting runners through the strikers. Better than the slow slow dross in our own half in front of the whole opponents team with one striker receiving the inevitable punt up field from Forster when we pass it back or chasing shadows while Boufal runs up his own backside before giving the ball away most of the time. 8 goals at home in 14 games is hardly worth turning up for.

Saints 0 Man Utd 0 - Buildup, Match and over-reactions Thread

Go with virtually the same team that started yesterday, making us physically stronger, except bring in Gabbiadini for Boufal and maybe Cedric for Pied. We need to play a high tempo so leave out Davis and JWP who slow us down just recycling the ball. -
Replace the manager for someone that will play more than one striker at a time, keep the strikers and get rid of the lightweight non scoring ball recyclers in midfield replaced with at least two quick, direct, physical, goal scoring midfielders to play alongside Romeu. Boufal is out of his depth and doesn't fit. Keep VVD, bring in another strong central defender.

He's had 50 competitive games this season, 17 League goals in 17 matches at home, FFS 9 goals were scored in three games which leaves 8 in 14, what sort of rubbish is that. We are no nearer scoring regularly at home, the man has one plan pass the ball, stop the goals, play one striker and pray. It doesn't bloody well cut it for me. He's had enough time and games, his rotation was ridiculous 200 changes in 30 games with VVD playing virtually every game. He only changed to 4-2-3-1 of sorts before the Sunderland game because we were on such a poor run. God only knows where we would be if he hadn't changed. IMO he is out of his depth and the players are doing their best to play in his straitjacket style.
-
That's a fact. The bloody rubbish served up by a half decent defence plus four midfield lightweights that couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo never mind pass forward or to each other with one striker trying his best but probably wondering what the hell he is supposed to do with the crap service.

It doesn't matter what the result is, my mate decided last night after the game that he's going to save £1800 for himself, wife and daughter because of the performances at home. He will renew if Puel leaves. I feel like he does but I just hope for something better. We have the players without VVD and Austin that can make up a very strong competitive team. Puel by picking non scoring lightweights all together is causing the lack of goals problem. Pick one or two if he has to, not four or five. Time to give Rodriguez, Long and Gabbiadini plus Austin when available the chance to play together and give Hojbjerg and or Clasie a go because they did well at WBA. We should win this one but it would only paper over the cracks. I'm not holding my breath. It might be a surprise to Puel but I bet the bosses are worrying about the attitude of the supporters. I'd be surprised if there aren't a fair number not renewing. I hope he is on borrowed time.

We had five lightweights in attacking options, Boufal going round in circles, Davis, couldn't hit a barn door, JWP, Tadic and Redmond (maybe we should play in yellow!). A lack of mobility and goal threat is costing us. Rodriguez scores, dropped, Long scores, dropped, Clasie scores, dropped. A pretty good striker neutered. Puel is obsessed with passing the ball around and possession so picks a lightweight team that can't even do that competently. Personally I would prefer more directness with Rodriguez Long and one from, Redmond, Tadic, Boufal, Davis and JWP with Austin available as another option shortly. Gabbiadini playing off Long and Rodriguez coming off the left as he used to play. I also prefer either Clasie or Hojbjerg who played well at WBA alongside Romeu. Both Gabbiadini and Romeu are being overworked by the lightweights who are picked every match but deliver nothing worth having.

Personally I understand why we played like we did at Liverpool and at any top six side who dominate possession and score plenty of goals at home. I endorse the way we played at Sunderland, Watford and WBA all good wins. My problem with Puel is the way we play at home. We have scored only 17 goals in 16 games and watching the mostly own half painfully slow possession game with one striker and three forwards who rarely score it is unsurprising. The way we play allows the opposition to do to us what we did to Liverpool yesterday. This is not the way a team that is expecting to finish in the top third of the division should play at home. Possession in our half for possession's sake is the wrong way to play. We need to up the ante at home and cut out the possession amongst the back six and as soon as we gain possession move the ball forward quickly to the forwards whilst there is still space behind and between the defenders. We need more than one striker in the team at home together with only one holding midfielder. The tempo needs to be intense and give the home support what it craves. At the moment Puel's tactics are sucking the life out of the team and the supporters, he needs to be much more on the front foot at home. It's not as if we are winning much at home as it is. Change is needed now.

Terry was a great player but within the squad he had a few who weren't his best friends, so much so that during match practice they would often try to clatter him but his peripheral vision was so good they couldn't get near him hence 800+ games.
-
He looked in stroll mode, passed the ball well but didn't dominate and wasn't particularly strong in the air or appeared that quick. We conceded two late goals after being two up. Hassan looked ok and saved a penalty but the rebound was put in. I'm not really sure how good Caceres is.

Yes, the save was after Romeu messed up but our third goal was after Davis messed up and Stephens won the ball then the move was as I described after Davis passed to Redmond. Got that mixed up.
-
It was at 2-2, IIRC Romeu back heeled, messed it up and gave the ball away, the Watford player was through one on one with Forster and he blocked the shot with his right foot, immediately the ball went to Davis who hit a nice pass to Redmond who ran on, checked, passed square to Boufal who shot from about 25 yards, the ball bounced up and came back off Gomez and was tapped in for our third goal by Gabbiadini.
-
Not only that, he stood up and blocked a certain goal before we broke away and Gabbiadini scored, it could have been 2-3 not 3-2. A more balanced view is required not just picking out the obvious and ignoring the good points.
-
As for the criticism of Austin, despite having to often track the right back, not being able to play his natural in the box game he was still able to score goals when we were hardly creating anything. Gabbiadini has been allowed the freedom to play his own game together with the switch back to our best and natural system and he is doing it brilliantly. Austin in that system will get more than his share of goals and if Gabbiadini isn't available we need him. I also don't think we should write off Long and Rodriguez as they give us alternatives. Leaving ourselves exposed as we have done with the centre backs isn't the way to go. We need to resolve the CB problem and get in at least one good class holding midfielder alongside Romeu. A scoring, strong midfielder wouldn't go amiss, Sigurdsson or similar.

I suggest you take another look. He had a chance to belt the ball into the back of the stand before the first goal but with his usual lack of guts pulled out and just flicked at it looping it up to Deeney. For the second, initially he picked up Okaka, then didn't bother tracking him, just let him go as he ran ten yards to score. Maybe a look at the final MU goals, staying down on the end of the wall, everybody else jumped, let Rojo go before he passed to Lingard for the second and just stood off Herrera with his hands behind his back and made no effort to challenge as Herrera crossed for the winner. Davis might be many things but he can't tackle, doesn't get in tight and more often than not pulls out of the physical challenge.

Three games ago we were in a massive mess, losses to WHU and Swansea, only one league win in about eight and heading to Sunderland only six points above the relegation spots, the manager had to do something different. Three at the back, 4-4-2, something original or go back to the 4-2-3-1 the players were successful in for the best part of three seasons, albeit with only one reliable defensive midfielder in Romeu. Davis is not the answer there but neither is anyone else but JWP has helped by being a compromise attacker assisting the defensive two. The team clicked, the ball was at last delivered into the box, Gabbiadini filled his boots, four goals, followed by a very good display at Wembley and another four goals yesterday. Credit to the manager after nearly forty games hitting on the formation we had been playing for the majority of the last three seasons. May be we can get a winning run in with the new found confidence. I don't think Puel is a bad manager but he was misguided trying to fundamentally change the way the team played, players that he had never managed, in a league and country he had never managed, with players that had finished sixth the previous season, comfortable with the way they were playing after a magnificent last three months.

Who gave a penalty against Saints v MU in the cup when a free kick hit a head in the wall.
-
Davis made no effort to get up to the ball in the free kick goal, bent his knees and ducked his head came up after the ball went over. For the second failed to close down Rojo then didn't track him allowing the pass to the scorer, for the third goal he stood off Herrera with his hands behind his back and made no effort to close him down. For the first if he had been braver the ball would have been blocked and for second and third he was the only one that could have stopped the moves but as usual failed to get in close and hard. Davis is a lightweight and appears scared to tackle hard and avoids hard contact. He is not a ball winner.
