  1. Sure it can, we just need a few posts on topic... I hope that if we do get Van Dijk, he takes the shirt number 40, because then we can say we have VVD40 in our well oiled defence... No, you're right, the thread is doomed.
  2. [out of date code] is the pin for the SaintsWeb league I think.
  3. http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~4870628,00.html There seem to be a few parallels with Lallana's exit heh. At least Lallana's flip took a season though, Delph has flipped in a week! I'm actually sort of looking forward to his return to Villa Park... can see it being a little bit hostile.
  4. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33571351 Now confirmed... Pretty bad week for Villa fans.
  5. Wonder if he has the same PR advisors as Lallana...
  6. This is true, but Schneiderlin actually counts as home grown as well. (Although he could lose that status if new rules for it come in.)
  7. Without even looking, I'm guessing Martin Samuel?

  9. Mané, Rodriguez and Cédric are probably the three Saints players I'll be going for at those prices, if I include three Saints players this year. Depends on whether there are any bargains that get ahead of them.

Truth is, he's trying to make himself feel better. After what happened to us last season, we went from everyone thinking we were in for a struggle to competing for Champions League spots. We're doing something very very right somewhere, and have been for a long time now, constantly improving, and they're next in our sights. They've dealt us a blow by getting Toby, but they really do see us as a threat now.

Liverpool thought they were slapping us back down last season as well.

    Dammit. Now I have a craving for a fry-up.

From Spurs point of view, it makes perfect sense to go for Alderweireld, even with them having more than enough defenders already. We're actually a threat to them now, and as well as strengthening themselves, getting Toby puts a massive dent in one of the reasons for that. Not only that, but we don't get the compensation of the transfer fee for it either.

I suspect 'Sky Sources' are the journo on twitter and the Standard (which may itself have been based on the journo from twitter). Not to say it's not happened of course, but there's plenty of doubt attached to it at the moment.

What happens next could be interesting. If we were formal with our intent to activate the buyout clause, it's that formal notification that would still be valid now after Madrid failed to pay the cancellation fee, not the original (now expired) loan agreement.

He was also reporting that Schneiderlin was already a done deal, also that Begovic was a done deal to Chelsea already. My guess is he takes a punt on a few news stories he thinks will happen and tries to make it look like he has inside info.

If that's the case, then it seems we tried to buy Toby, Madrid informed us they would pay the cancellation fee, and then didn't bother paying it, and are now saying the loan has expired so we can't buy him? No wonder we're kicking off about it.
  19. Nothing worse than going out in the semi final, except for going out like THAT.
  20. Could turn out in the long run to be one of the biggest signings we make this summer.
  21. There's a slight difference in that it was Cedric asking Fonte for advice by the look of it, and that it was to choose Saints over Stoke, rather than to leave his current club for Saints.
  22. One thing we've done really well in recent seasons is stand firm on valuations of outgoing players. We've apparently set our stall out at a £15M valuation, deeming that any less than that isn't worth the combined cost of losing Clyne, strengthening a rival, and gaining the value we would lose between now and January. Ball's in Liverpool's court now, either they meet the £15M, or they miss out on him until January at least, and possibly lose him to another club or him signing a new contract. Possibly a transfer request could force our hand, but failing that, while it's a fair bit of money, and we might not be the richest club in the world, the Premier League has changed. We don't need the money.
