Bit of interest shown on the thread on the main board too so lets go for it: Kitty O Shea's Irish Bar on Caxton Street looks a decent shout. Lets say around 5pm so we can get down to the ground and get seats together at about 6:30. I'll be the one in the Saints shirt!! -

Three so far then - and I am in touch with six others through email etc. and waiting to hear. Probably be a meet up somewhere in Caxton Street about 5-5:30 before the game. Will post details here later in the week. -
Mods - better still - can I have this as a sticky for a week?
-
Proposed meet up/beer for Markus on Saturday 21st August before the Roar v Sydney game. See the Overseas forum and post on there - and also post here to bump so Aussie posters who mainly look here see it too. Only a week mods then it will slide anyway. Cheers.

An idea from Upsidedownsaint: Any Brisbane based fans going to the Brisbane Roar v Sydney game next weekend (Saturday 21st August)....lets all wear the stripes and meet up at the game and sit together - sort of our tribute to Markus. If there's enough to make it worthwhile I will suggest a meet up somewhere before the game to raise a glass to the great man. Post on this thread if you are going to be there. I'm going. Would also be good to meet each other in case there's reason for a party towards the end of the season....

Good shout - theres quite a few Saints fans in Brissie so if we can get about a dozen that would be decent. -
Perfectly understandable decision to postpone. Leyton Orient should be a highly charged affair. I can see an epic performance coming through for Markus.

Markus Liebherr RIP. All tributes here please.

Much respect and condolences. RIP. -
Meh. 2-0 home win against Bournemouth in the 'nobody cares, play the ressies' cup. I really don't care. Good news was no injuries. Saturday is far more important. We need to win games in the League (though a draw Saturday would be a step in the right direction) or we all might as well pack it in.

I was as dogged off as everyone after losing the first game. But can we please lay off Cortese for a while. People have short memories. So he might have made a few mistakes but as far as I can tell we are a lot better off than when he walked through the door, and if he and Markus walked back out of it we would be a lot worse off. Lay the **** off him.

What a joy it has been to see the new football season start with proper footballs and recognisable crowd noises. Brings home how sh1t the World Cup was really. Blatter really needs to retire.

Agree with this. Which is why I moved to Aus - but the same problems are just around the corner here too. But at least it's warm and sunny in Brisbane

Just popped up on the local paper here in Brisbane. Apparently the Plymouth Herald used a couple of cartoons to illustrate the game. Saints will get nowhere commercially with this approach, at least not without p1ssing off a lot of people and copping some retaliatory flak. Is it really worth the candle?

I think its OK to boo at the end of the game if the team have thrown the towel in and bottled it after conceding the first goal. Some of our players did that. Not all, but those that did will know the boos were targeted at them.

Slept on it and been right through this thread. Read Pardews assessment. My conclusion - this Saints squad is not as good as last season and we are sliding. We need some pace in the midfield and cover for Lambert quickly. Pardew gone before the end of September is a real possibility.
-
We need to improve a lot if we are going to challenge for promotion this season. League favourites? Dream on. We looked a shadow of the side that finished so strongly last season. Never looked like scoring. Mid table on that evidence.

Well nobody else did it so here is the match thread

Harding had a shocking second half, Davis's distribution went to pieces and Jaidi looked very shaky too. Puncheon did nothing and the two strikers were limp. All in all a **** start and a total embarrassment in front of the cameras AGAIN. We are supposed to be favourites for this league and we made Plymouth look like Real ****ing Madrid. Sort it out Pardew, I'm already ****ed off. -

Just not good enough. Bunch of useless bottlers. What the **** has Pardew done over the summer? -
Wouldn't fancy a match day experience at Fratton this season - who in their right mind is going to supply them with catering, programmes, stewarding services, etc. etc. If I was a business owner and in the light of the recent judgment and the FCR I would not be supplying any football club, especially Cheats FC, except on a cash upfront basis.

Anyone take a 0-7 defeat for a season like the one Norwich had last year?
-
Due to the tight time constraints imposed on him I don't think he had time to broaden his areas of enquiry beyond the specific points raised in the Revenue's appeal. Valid question though nonetheless - and the non addressing of it is either very lucky or well engineered - take your pick.

Like Deano I have now read Manns judgement in detail, from a tax accountants perspective. For those still baffled as to why the judge didn't allow the extra 13M of the Revenues claim (for Image Rights and Employee Benefit Trust payments) to count for CVA voting purposes....... It hinged on the fact that the Revenue should have conceded that Pompeys players had some value in their image rights. That would have meant that some of the image rights payments validly fell outside the scope of PAYE/NIC - notwithstanding that logic suggests the vast majority of those were a blatant tax dodge. The fact that some of the total was arguably valid meant that the exact amount of PAYE/NIC avoided could not be determined at the salient time and therefore the entire 13M assessment could be treated by AA as being inadmissable for CVA voting purposes, other than at a notional £1 x 2. Being £1 for the Image rights element, and £1 for the EBT element. Which is exactly what AA did. He is, in my opinion, a greasy, manipulative, shady character operating in very murky waters. But the blokes clearly also a ****ing genius and deserves every penny of his consultancy fee.

The timing of the announcement by the PL to monitor clubs tax payments was probably not a coincidence and influenced the Revenue's approach in court and the decision not to appeal - at the commencement of proceedings you will recall they indicated that they would. The PL are in this up to their necks as well and desperate to hide something. Can't understand how the judge was bought off though. Haven't seen the detailed judgment yet, but it seems like he's said 'to hell with the figures and whether AA froze out the Revenue on the CVA vote, I personally think it's more commercial to stick with the CVA so the creditors get something in the short term and bugger the longer term implications, and what the law actually says'. The whole thing stinks worse than a fish factory.

Can someone post a link to the News Obituary pages to cheer me up a bit?
