We have, but that's generally because we've priced the tickets attractively in the past. £14, for me, to watch what is essentially a glorified reserve game, is too much. I appreciate that the prices have to be agreed between both sides as there's a split in the gate receipts, but it does seem that in the Carling Cup these days, "less is more" applies to the early rounds in particular.
The supposed 5000 figure is probably those who would have gone to the game even if it was £20.
I'm not going tonight, it's too much effort for this sort of game to have to work through lunch and leave early to get the packed commuter train out of Waterloo, paying £22 for the privilege, and then not getting home until about 1am. Would I have been tempted if it was a tenner? Maybe, even though it's only a difference of £4, strange how rounding the price down to a single note does make a bit of a psychological difference.
