  1. Try clearing out your cache and cookies and logging in again. You should be able to pay in any currency. I believe we've had overseas members pay already, presumably in Euros or USD. Long story. Short version is database crashed on Friday. Loads of posts were lost. Post counts reduced for pretty much everyone as a result.
  2. The company was set up in January (I think) when me and Baj first suggested the idea. For one reason or another, which I won't go into, there wasn't universal agreement on it, so it was shelved for a while. We re-raised the idea about 3 or 4 weeks ago and got support from the entire admin team, and were going to take our time to implement it all. However, the database crashing (and seemingly not wishing to be fixed) on Friday meant that we decided to work our arses off over the weekend to get it up and running asap. There are a few things that need tinkering with, for example the adverts aren't live yet because in order to be approved for Google AdSense you need a live working site (which we didn't have over the weekend!). Also, the skins are a bit flaky, IMO, and they'll need a bit of hacking so they look right, e.g. modifying the layout so the username and user information appears down the left of all posts rather than over the top.
  3. If they've finished making a complete mess of Millbrook Roundabout then yes, the speed limit will be back up to 50. And of course if you go through it within 50 and it flashes you, there's not a cat in hell's chance they'll actually be able to prosecute you for it.
  4. Damn you for being a slightly faster geek than me And anyway, it's Adobe Flash now...
  5. It's something we'll definitely look into. In the meantime, there is the "Archive" feature, which is a much more work-safe way of viewing the forum. Unfortunately it doesn't offer the ability to reply, but you could always come back into the main view to actually post. Archive Link
  6. Expect it'll be the weekend before that gets done, I'm afraid.
  7. Because they can afford to do so. In which case, I would ask you where you would expect us to find the money to pay for the required infrastructure, given that it runs (very very comfortably) into 4 figures? Would you expect me and Baj to pay for it all out of our own pocket and out of the goodness of our hearts? Personally, I don't think that's particularly realistic. I do agree, and SaintsWeb, for the most part, follows that principle. The main site (when it's up and running) will be run on that basis, and everybody can post on the forum without paying (obviously with limitations to encourage people to subscribe). However, in order for the forum to cover its costs, we have to bring in revenue from somewhere (and it sure as hell isn't coming from my bank account as the money simply isn't there), just like the vast majority of sites elsewhere on the internet. As it's your third post of the day, I guess that means I get the final word I await your response tomorrow
  8. You get the option of logging in to your account above the "Don't have a PayPal account?" link.
  9. You don't need a PayPal account. When you go through the subscription process, you'll be taken to the PayPal site. At the bottom, there's a link that says "Don't have a PayPal Account? Pay using your credit card or bank account" (or something similar). Click that, enter your card details and you're done. Or at least that's the theory.
  10. All also funded by multi-million (or billion) dollar investments and aggressive advertising revenue generation.
  11. Yes. 0700 train to Waterloo, returning on the 1805.
  12. With Flintoff returning, I guess it's not much of a surprise that Mascarenhas is the one to make way. At least it means he's available to Hampshire for the forseeable future...
  13. Just in case anyone's lost their avatar from the old forum, you should be able to do a Google Image seach of " avatar" and it should find it
  14. I won't be there, but that's purely because I won't be home from work in time. I do also think we've had at least one too many home friendlies this summer, especially given that the other two were against relatively prestigious opposition. I can't say I'm surprised at the low take-up for tomorrow's game on that basis, especially at £15 a pop.
  15. I think the purpose of this thread was served quite a while ago now...
  16. Exactly. The vast majority of people had Bristol City and Hull down to be pretty much where we were for most of the season, and yet they both ended up at Wembley.
  17. I think the point is not that they can't afford it but that they won't see that "investment" as worthwhile just for the sake of either winding people up or getting banned and not getting their money back.
  18. I go on holiday. No, not really. We have budgeted to turn a very small profit (perhaps £100, if that) over the course of the year. If we exceed that, great, we'll be able to afford to make improvements to the site, such as live score feeds etc (which I can assure you cost a small fortune). I can assure you we're not doing this to make money for ourselves. It is, in our opinion, the best way of ensuring the forum can be hosted on a high-spec server which won't crash at peak times and that the cost for that is self-sufficient. Donations and advert revenue alone would never be able to provide any sort of long-term guarantee.
  19. View the user's profile, and under the "User Lists" menu, select "Add to Ignore List".
  20. As for the "lost" post counts: 1. When we were trying to repair the database on Friday, something got corrupted which meant the loss of a significant number of posts (there were just under a million posts in the database), which subsequently affected users' post counts. The posts that remained will obviously have remained on users' post counts. 2. It still baffles me as to why people actually care about their post counts... it's really not much of a status symbol!
  21. A basic rundown is available here. Essentially, "Tier 1" users get 3 posts per day (or, more precisely, 3 posts in a 24 hour period rather than an actual day, e.g. could be 10.27 to 10.26 the following day rather than 00.00 to 23.59) and the ability to read the forum. That's it. "Tier 2" or "Subscribed" users get everything, e.g. as many posts as you like, the ability to start threads and polls, private messages, avatars, etc.
  22. I should probably amend that "No" to "Not yet". I think realistically we're probably going to have to. I've asked people at SFC about the "nominated fanzine" thing, whereby we'd be able to display the fixtures for £1 per year rather than the £300-odd, but got very little response from them. I would imagine their stance would be even more negative in light of the changes we've now made to the forum in terms of revenue generation.
  23. Subscribed members can upload their own avatars. Needless to say, you're expected not to abuse this new privilege
  24. As a subscribed user, you should be able to upload your own avatar.
