Other cities without a professional football club?
chrisobee replied to 1976_Child's topic in The Saints
Whatever happened to poor old York, I can remember us playing them in Div 2 in the mid 70's. Population must be around the 200,000 mark I would guess. Lovely city as well, I have photos taken in the oddly named street, Whip Ma Whop Ma Gate ! Ah, at least I have memories -
Agreed, I guess I should not be surprised anymore by anything posted on this board but some of the comments are way beyond contemptible. If anyone seriously thinks MLT would do anything other than try to help the club then they are deluded IMO. Who knows what happened throughout the course of this bid. At worst Matt is guilty of being naive but without knowing the full facts ( which NO ONE on here does) then it's down to guesswork and personal interpretation and I really feel ashamed that so called Saints fans resort to slagging off someone like Le Tissier. At least he had the guts to try to do something and by allowing his name to be used setting himself up for exactly this.

I assume then he did not believe in the number one rule of gambling: " Only bet with money you can afford to lose! "

Lol, I tend to post something slightly sarcastic on all the seemingly never ending threads that arise so it's nothing personal Sorry if it appeared that way, I forgot to wink !!

Oh good, maybe I will not be last after all, a 5 year old child could work out how to join the league TBH

It has been mentioned already on one of the myriad of posts already on here so we definitely don't need another new thread lol Was generally agreed that the shows would have been recorded some weeks ago.
-
No, some of their stuff was quite good !
-
No, there seems to be 4 in the league and my team, Sotonians, is pending. Guess you have to Ok it ? At least with me in it there's no need to worry about coming last !!
-
Well I watched it on ATR and it was about 1/9 at the off so a massive price! That said I have no idea if you could have even got that price. It was rather a pointless race as it was like Usain Bolt taking on any of us !!
-
Oddly enough I was just watching videos of a few of their songs on Youtube, glad to be of service

Ah yes, I guess that makes a degree of sense. I think Dimi is the sort of player who rarely gets flustered and thus ideal in a pressure situation. In fact I think the only time he gets a bit annoyed is when the fielding gets sloppy ! Cetainly in one day cricket I'd say he is the one player we miss most when he doesn't play.

Yes, I think The Specials were probably the most serious of the 80's Ska bands compared to the more tongue in cheek stuff of say Bad Manners and Madness. That said The Beat did some stuff which had a serious message such as "Stand Down Margaret" And "Get a Job" though my favourite tracks would definitely be "Mirror in The Bathroom" and "Hands Off She's Mine" which I think were two of their earlier hits. I also loved their cover of "Tears of a Clown" which was comparable to the Smokey Robinson and The Miracles original.

TBH I'm not sure apart from the obvious fact they were a reggae band what UB40 have to do with Ska as I would never classify them as a Ska band. That said I agree some of their early stuff was good but when they resorted to only doing cover versions then I lost interest in them. Off the top of my head I'd say the following were Ska bands though I'm sure there will be more I have forgotten: Specials Selecter The Beat Madness Bad Manners The Bodysnatchers ( Rhoda Dakar) The Swinging Cats Fun Boy Three ( albeit a far more "pop music" style)

Ervine seems to be one of those players whether he is batting or bowling he is either brilliant or useless, no middle ground! Still he would be in my team every time.

Watford- Northants will almost be like a home match.Less than an hour by train from Watford Junction. Matches on 27-29 July.

Well I guess in 20/20 always expected the unexpected. However, I am really, really curious as to why Tahir came in at 4, the only ( stupid) reason I can think of was that everyone else had gone for a comfort break !! But maybe I'll have an even more stupid reason by tomorrow

Yes, that's a bonus as well. I think despite some inconsistency we did well to qualify from what was probably the toughest group as Essex finishing 4th and Middx bottom tends to confirm.
-
Yes, I realised after posting that with 3 groups there would be 2 places still to fill so I checked and saw that as long as we won we would be one of the 3rd placed teams to qualify. I agree our draw is as good as we could expect, I was expecting us to get Lancs away!
-
I think I'm right in saying that in order to qualify we: 1) Need to win ( unlikely) 2) Need Middx to beat Sussex (Highly unlikely) 3) Then have a better NRR than Sussex ? In other words we are long odds against to qualify!

Probably got invited a long time back by Tony's brother Des but could not accept due to his Sky commitments. As for the conundrum I think he's been stuck on that for a few weeks now

Dear Toadhall Saint, Please do not drag me into this. For the record I have no connection with Pinnacle or any of it's owners. Thank you, COB
