Unfortunately one word just jumps out at me and that is "possibly". Seem to have been a lot of possible developments lately which turned out to just raise false hopes. So thanks for posting that but I'm not sure I can raise my hopes again.

Well Man Utd have reportedly paid £16m for Antonia Valencia. Not sure how accurate the figure is but it's obscene that one player is worth so much and yet one club apparently so little. My love for football waned almost as soon as the Premier League was formed and I only really continued to have an interest in club football as Saints are a huge part of my life and memories such as 1976 will never die. Fair to say if we do go under then I'll have no interest in club football at all and that will truly be not only a sad day for all Saints fans but for football in general as it will show once again how little those who should care about teams like Saints and Luton do actually care. Shameful.

Worringly I cannot add to the few players listed ! I think we're all in with a chance TBH.

I agree to a point but the fact is that the 8 posts you refer to ( I'll take your word on the number!) were totally unacceptable criticism whether it be aimed at MLT or any individual. I dare say if the posters in question used the terms they did against other posters they would deservedly get banned. Just because MLT is not a member of this forum I don't see it makes any difference TBH. Anyway as I said I agree most posters are reasonable, it's a shame a few seem to go out of their way to be as insulting as possible.

No, there is definitely no Cathedral in Reading. Many years ago I was told a city needed a Cathedral and I think that was the case way back. Now it is recognised that the status of city in England and Wales is no longer bound to the presence of a cathedral, and city status granted on a variety of criteria, including population size which presumably applies to many places including Southampton.

Guildford is the county town of Surrey and not a city and Chelmsford the county town of Essex, also not a city. Though to be honest "city" status isn't to me the me the real issue but the size of somewhere be it town or city is. For example St Albans is a city and a lovely one at that but with a population of only about 65,000 does not even match Watford ( a town) with a population of about 80,000.

Sadly this board has always had a few people who do nothing but criticise. I thought in this case there would be no such criticism but this clearly shows how naive I am too. Am I going to apologise for that ? Of course not, to my cost at times I have always tried to be positive, see the best in people and believe that as long as you act with good intentions then things will invariably work out for the best and if they don't then at least you tried. If Matt did anything more than that at the very worst then how stupid are those who slag him off. I think it is fair to say that at this moment in time I have never been so disgusted in my life regarding anything to do with Saints and that covers 40+ years. So I have posted a few comments already and unlike those who seem to criticise the most i don't hide behind a "made up" user name. I have no problem with anyone using any name they chose but when they someone comes up with the rubbish I have read tonight I do wonder if they would do so if they used their real names. Again no offence meant to anyone for chosing any name, it's not a dig at you at all, I think the point will be clear. If not then at least you know who I am and where !!

Actually I remember all the players listed and many more having supported Saints since 1966. All those mentioned are great players and I'm particularly a fan of Micky Channon who was and is such a great down to earth character and has done so well as a Race horse trainer. However, all those mentioned were surrounded by other quality players and not one of them was : a) As Loyal as MLT b) Saved us almost single handedly more than once. c) Anywhere close in terms of sheer skill ( IMO albeit) In fact great player though Keegan was I still recall him promising to stay for one more season then promptly leaving for Newcastle.I also recall Shilton leaving unexpectedly. In fact the only one I'd mention in the same breath as MLT is Micky Channon who was also very loyal, only leaving after we failed to get promoted in 1976/77 and of course returned for another successful period. So listing names of great players who played for Saints is easy to do but not so easy to justify their status as Saints legends.

Seems to me that several of the worst posts are by "TheMidfieldGeneral" who apparently has been "watching" Saints since 1970, I assume that is not the same as supporting them. It's very rare I get stirred enough to single out individuals but to you TMG ( and anyone else who shares his disgraceful views) I'll put it politely and say go away, you are not wanted on here.
