  1. To be fair Brighton played some scintillating football today - their first half performance was the best I've seen from any team at St Mary's this season . But the harsh truth is we played a major part in our own downfall - Jaidi and Trotman were both poor , it seems to me Jaidi's 'crime' is to be good player who thinks he's a great one , he's too casual sometimes like Rio Ferdinand is at a higher level . Hammond clearly needs to be rested (so much for all our never change a winning team merchants) and Schneiderlin seems to be making little progress this season in all honesty . Lloyd James continues to deliver exactly the same diagonal cross from midfield positions without ever threatening the dead ball line as a quality full back should , the return of Murty will almost certainly strengthen the team . As for positives Adam Lallana's class should be apparent to all and Antonio can be dangerous intermittently . No one doubts Lambert and Connolly , they just had a bad day at the office I trust . We've played very well lately but all good things must come to an end I suppose - we've a tough test upcoming against Norwich on Saturday and if we lose that the chances of reaching the play-offs will start to look even more unlikely than they do now .
  2. I'd loved 'The Tomorrow People' back in the day with that peculiar intensity that only teenagers know - I revisited it recently on DVD however and it just looked unbearably cheap and silly .
  3. I make no claim that this was the best TV theme tune , but it's surely a good bet for the oddest : A strange unsettling series for 1970's children's TV that has never quite left me , compared to the banal rubbish we serve up to kids these days it's a prime example of what can be achieved with a modicum of care and attention .
  4. I know exactly what you mean , I was torn between UFO and Stingray for the best Anderson title sequence , you could also add 'Thunderbirds' / 'Space 1999' / the surprisingly brutal 'Captain Scarlet' to the list as well . A magnificent body of work if I may say so , happy days .
  5. Good to see so many fellow 'Dexter' fans on here - quite the darkest , most subversive series to emerge from the US since ..... well since ever maybe . As for 'The Wire' - bring back by beloved 'NYPD Blue' I say .
  6. This always did the business for me way back in the 70's : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8RfzkhqBLY&feature=related Gerry Anderson is a God among men FACT .
  7. The most amazing thing about this CG reconstruction is the (apparent) calmness the aircrew maintain over the radio during this extreme emergency : http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2009/11/13/334828/detailed-animation-captures-drama-of-hudson-ditching.html Most air accidents are caused by human error which might lead you to call for the pilot-less airliner of the future - but I think I'd still like to see a Human pilot up front thanks . :prayer:
  8. To say the table is ' distorted ' by our early results is a akin to saying that the fall of France in May 1940 distorted the course of World War II . The early season results are a matter of record/historical fact whether we like them or not .
  9. I'll be there but what a stupid time to schedule a football match . If we can avoid the twin pitfalls of complacency and overconfidence we should have too much quality for B&HA to cope with I'd have thought .
  10. On the subject of our former players just look how far some of them have fallen : http://www.football.co.uk/falkirk/may_confirms_pele_coup_296751.shtml
  11. I know exactly what would have happened (he said lying through his teeth) 1 - We would have gone on to win the play-off final and been promoted back to the Premier League . 2 - George Burley would surely have failed to keep us up in that 1st season back in the EPL . 3 - SLH would have limped on a little longer in the CCC living off the parachute payment . 4 - Rupert Lowe and Micheal Wilde would oust Leon Crouch summer 2011 and introduce a revolutionary new coaching set up . 5 - 'You know who' would be on here telling us what a wonderful idea this was ........
  12. A precedent has been set now . Alan Pardew has a small problem on his hands as if he were to drop Bart for the next JPT fixture that would be seen as a (damaging) vote of no confidence in him while on the other hand this close to a Wembley cup final we should be playing our best team I'd have thought . Interesting to see how AP calls it .
  13. With Trotman returning to Preston in January it will be interesting to see if the manager is happy to see Jaidi and Thomas as our first choice CB pairing - we could do worse .
  14. Thanks for that , worked pretty well and free too
  15. Perhaps that loan out has done Bart good - not a single 'flap' all game .
  16. .......but not in this case . If you stand still eventually someone will overtake you . Teams must strive to constantly improve because you can rest assured the competition will be . Murty is the best Right Back we have and should return when fit I'd say .
  17. If on this Remembrance Sunday I may digress away from football or petty arguments on the Internet for a moment I'm thinking of all those fine lads who went 'over the top' on the Somme or at that living Hell they called Passchendaele and my truth is that whether they went into battle in a optimistic or pessimistic state of mind would have probably have made no difference whatsoever . Sorry if that sounds downbeat but that's how the world seems to me sometimes .
  18. It's my understanding that the proportion of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere is tiny (0.03%) - a very small part of that trace component is the result of Human (fossil burning) activity . I'm no scientist you won't be surprised to hear but it seems to me counter-intuitive (to the layman anyway) to claim that the extremely small alteration to the Carbon Dioxide level in the atmosphere that can be laid at the door of mankind is responsible for a potentially catastrophic increase in the planet's future temperature . There are enormous natural forces at work on the planet (such as Volcanism or Solar Radiation for instance) that seem to dwarf human effects . But putting these doubts aside the vast majority of climate scientists seem convinced that man made global warming is a very real threat to the living planet and must be tackled , so the 'Precautionary Principle' demands we take it seriously and do what we can to avert a disaster for all our children and our children's children . Even if the 'man made global warming' theory is wrong the advantages of developing sustainable clean energy technology and countering pollution on our oh so small planet are both obvious and urgent . We either learn to live in harmony with nature or we accept that Homo Sapiens are just another species heading for extinction as the forces of natural selection decide we just aren't smart enough to endure .
  19. You know the brutal truth about optimism or pessimism is that whichever standpoint you prefer it will make precious little difference to any outcome in the real world , least of all the performance of a football team . But you wouldn't think that to read this forum sometimes , as soon as you post something questioning or dare to be critical on here you get jumped on as if you've just uttered a heresy or are complicit in some conspiracy to undermine the club - a 'Thoughtcrime' as George Orwell so memorably put it . I can only conclude that those who find others skepticism threatening for some reason are probably insecure for all their apparent confidence. If the usual suspects showed a little less intolerance of minority opinions on here and just concentrated on putting their own view across instead then this place might be a more civilised place for all . It's a sin to kill a Mockingbird - they do no harm .
  20. I'd suggest that philosophy while entertaining is unlikely to get you very far in the long term - Kevin Keegan's (trophy-less) reign at Newcastle being a good illustration of the point . Successful teams are nearly always built on the foundation of a solid defence .
  21. On this subject of classical music I often think that the second movement from Beethoven's 7th will be the music they play as the world ends - awesome . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdfNTO_o-3k
  22. We're in agreement then .
  23. That all sounds pretty definitive to me - he's going back to Preston in January as per the loan agreement . Time to work on how we replace him then , given the management's record in signing players I'm quietly confident they'll sort something out .
  24. I made no criticism of Alan Pardew , in my opinion the blame for our disappointing start to the season can be layed at many doors if you're interested in that type of thing , not least on the players - but a poor(ish) start it certainly was . I 'pretend' nothing - I suspect if you asked the manager however he might well accept full responsibility for what occurred (in the manner that the Captain of a ship is normally held responsible for its loss) but to be frank I find the 'Blame Game' not a particularly productive pastime and it holds little interest for me . What does interest me is honesty - I'm in good company it would seem .
  25. Not entirely sure whether you're disagreeing with the manager , me , or both of us . I don't tell Alan Pardew what to say (I wouldn't dare presume) he volunteered it of his own free will . As AP has willingly excepted that we made a slow start - without recourse to any tired old excuse you will note - it would seem wise you follow his excellent example . Or are the SaintsWeb 'Thoughtcrime' police about to launch a prosecution against AP for undermining himself now ?
