  1. If press reports that Eduard Spertsyan and Mamadou Coulibaly have both rejected a Saints’ offer are right, that would explain our failure so far to buy a midfielder but MC is a more defensive type of player than I, at least, was expecting - he’s a definite DM. Let’s hope we have plenty of other irons in the fire. Our present lack of concrete progress is beginning to worry me, even more so because it gives those posters who just have to post several times a day nothing interesting to talk about and we have to wade through page after page of mostly drivel. https://saintsmarching.com/another-midfielder-quietly-turns-down-saints-within-a-week https://www.transfermarkt.us/mamadou-coulibaly/profil/spieler/967976

  3. Perhaps I was a bit obscure or merely of an older generation: In UK slang, "johnny" can refer to a condom. It can also be a more general term for a man or boy, similar to "chap" or "guy" What is a Johnny in Cockney slang? Johnny-bag - condom. Never mind.
  4. Apparently a hereditary problem: first, your dad and, now, you! 😄
  5. ER who T’ ECK is TONDA? 🤔 I see he has been Assistant Manager at Genoa for 4 years and before that at Barnsley for a year; before that Assistant Manager for academy or youth sides at Munich (1 year), Leipzig (2), Salszburg (1) and Cologne (3) since 2013. He has worked with several decent managers. Not bad for a 32 year-old. Calum McFarlane has gone to an EPL club, apparently. The German invasion continues.
  6. https://fawslfulltime.co.uk/2025/07/04/southampton-appoint-former-blackburn-rovers-boss-parker-as-new-head-coach/ Interesting move. Article does not say what has happened to Remi Allen. Good luck to him. So far, he has about half a squad to work with.
  7. I see Fernandes drinks his G&T without a slice of either lemon or lime.
  8. Not really, that’s one of the advantages we have with WS as manager - it leaves our opposition guessing what our set-up will be and how to counter it. It would be strange if we telegraphed our system to everyone else so that they had plenty of time to work out how to counter it (I’m looking at you, Russell). As long as those doing our recruiting of players know what skills we need in our players, we should have no concerns. Ever the optimistic 😇.
  9. It’s the SR way: you can never have too many left-backs.
  10. Is he related to a certain TDM poster on here?
  11. No, the most important thing is surely what his mum is like.
  12. looks as if he plays mainly centrally for WB even though described as a left winger: 1 LM 4 AM 13 SS 16 CF Played as... Centre-Forward 16 2 2 Second Striker 13 3 - Attacking Midfield 4 1 - Left Midfield 1 - - valued at €4m; 1.82 metres tall; ranked 11th at WB and 22nd from Austria; despite plenty of games played, not many minutes for WB since mid-February. (all from Transfermarkt) On the face of it, he does not float my boat.
  13. ✔️✔️✔️ Good analysis, santolijador. 🔟/10 👏

  15. The thing that rankles, in many people’s opinion, is not that he left us for Liverpool but the manner of his departure. So the transfer fee and his on-field performance are irrelevant. He might well turn out to be an excellent coach for us and for others, although I did not see much evidence of that last season, but we have every right, IMO, to criticise his attitude and actions just before and just after he left us.
  16. The kiss of death, as usual, gio. 💀
  17. make Saints great again, I.e. what Marsdinho said three hours ago.
  18. Possible new RB for c£2m: https://eflanalysis.com/transfers/mauricio-pochettino-is-a-big-fan-of-amazing-star-southampton-could-sign-for-just-2m/
  19. Southampton have signed only Joshua Quarshie from Hoffenheim so far this summer. The Saints are keen to bring in Lucas Cepeda from Colo-Colo, however, alongside the likes of Besfort Zeneli and Manchester City youngster Juma Bah. Those seem the most reliable; others mentioned but seem more tenuous.
  20. I was more or less with you until your last line; you blew it, Holmes, or was it Watson?
  21. Not much wrong with his mum, then. A rangy central striker with more pace than the average No.9, Downs has a touch of Germany record scorer Miroslav Klose about his budding game. If so, that’ll do for me.
  22. If you are not careful, sometimes having a trollop gives you a pain. ☹️
  23. Nice to see MLT makes someone’s first 11. BTW, I hope that, by McGrath, you mean Big John: https://www.saintsplayers.co.uk/player/john-mcgrath/ who was the reason for Shankly’s “alehouse” description of our beloved, (at that time, not now), team.
  24. True: half-decent but small. ☺️
